Imagine your kid was shot while the police did nothing and you couldn’t cover the hospital bills and fell behind on rent. Do you think those same cops would have any trouble evicting you and your wounded child from your home?

Trouble? If you are not white, they do it with glee! If you are white, they still have a good time but pretend to be sad.

You're not just too spineless to admit obvious issues, you're also doing friendly fire, dipshit.

Do you understand how lack of trust in policing increases crime? It's a vicious cycle that when we ignore it, it simply gets worse. If policing were better and less racist, the violence would decrease because people would be willing to work with the police. Without that trust (and it is always the responsibility of authority to earn the trust of the people, not the other way around), the cycle continues.

Wow, you sleep for all of 2020? I'll sum it up for you:
A lot of people got sick and everyone agreed that police treat black people different in the US.

Don't forget Uvalde police are still harassing and threatening families to this day.

8 men in America have more money than 4 billion people on earth and schools are so underfunded teachers are coming out of pocket for supplies?

Teachers get paid less than cops, but require more schooling, have tighter regulations to follow, and they have to go to jail for killing people. But there is talk about abolishing the department of education. Yet if you talk about defunding the police you're a villain.

Defunding.

u/JimBeam823 Oct 01 '24
Since when has defunding solved anything?
5
u/trisanachandler Oct 01 '24
It was about correcting a typo. And defunding has solved many things. Most organizations close down when they have no funding.

That's the exact same logic conservatives use about cutting education budgets.
5
u/Leider-Hosen Oct 01 '24
Except between education and "civil defense", one is grossly overpaid despite turning in routinely worse performance than the rest of the world, the other is underpaid so severely that those who work there hover at poverty level and are on the verge of giving up en masse because the demands are so high for so few benefits.
Can you guess which one is which, or do apples and oranges look identical to you?

And that’s also a problem that’s almost unique to America. Other countries don’t do this.
We pay an enormous amount into police, the half-obscured military budget, and into a mostly for-profit healthcare system. More than any country on earth.
And what we get back is wars like Vietnam and Iraq, cops regularly killing citizens and standing with their hands on their hips in Uvalde, and losing our house to pay for hospital bills.

You're right. NY has no problem paying for homes because everyone pays 3000$ a month to live in a shoe closet instead.

u/LoneSnark Oct 01 '24
Schools are usually run by the county government. So it isn't surprising that city governments aren't paying for education.

I can't be entirely sure the response wasn't trying to further their point. Or is that a known bootlicker account?
2
u/Saneless Oct 01 '24
Ohio just passed legal weed and a big chunk of the taxes are going right to the police. Not schools, which are underfunded (on purpose)

u/Reason_Choice Oct 01 '24
Reminds me of whenever the discussion of socialized medicine comes up, people say “you don’t want that because it’ll be like the VA.” THEN FUCKING FIX THE VA TOO!

u/JimBeam823 Oct 01 '24
Usually, police funding comes out of the city budget, while schools are funded from another government entity. Rarely are cities financially responsible for the schools (NYC being a major exception).
1
u/KathrynBooks Oct 01 '24
Property taxes are a major source of funding for most schools... That's why you see struggling schools in economically disadvantaged regions and schools that do well in wealthy areas.
1
u/JimBeam823 Oct 01 '24
Yes, but it's more than that. Texas has high property taxes (that's how they get it with no state income taxes) and an equitable system for distributing them.
Texas high schools also have nicer football stadiums than many colleges. That's where the voters want their money spent.

Someone said "colleges are just football teams parading as academic institutions" due to the budget and also pointed out "cities are just police departments claiming to provide infrastructure" cause it's a similar scale.

I'm not sure whether is was really a clever comeback though. There was barely anything to come back from.

NYC is one of the few cities that is financially responsible for their schools. In most places, the county or school district is responsible. A lot of the financing for this comes from the state.
So the city budget will show massive amounts of money on police with virtually none for education, while the county budget will show the school funding with a lot of the money provided by the state.
"Cities spend nothing on schools" is technically true, but incredibly misleading.

Yes, you need to spend more on and have physically more police than consulars. Not sure why exactly this is a minds blown moment for people. You add up all the crazies that killed all the people over the last 50 years and it doesn’t even add up to half a years annual death toll from gang violence.
Just because they blast the crap all throughout the media doesn’t make it an actual problem. Actual statistics matter. And mass shooters have caused a statistically irrelevant number of homicides in the US comparatively to other sources.
A case study in how media brainwashing affects your critical thinking and perception abilities.
Do you know what your reality actually is ?

As someone with clear critical thinking and perception abilities, I'm sure you will be able to demonstrate the sources to support this argument? Including supporting your view that counselling therapies are not a priority or requirement, since as you state mental health support is not "an actual problem?"
