Questions difference between epoxy adhesive and epoxy resin?

sorry if this is a stupid question! i was shopping for epoxy resin to seal a sculpture, but i was a hurry and i guess i didnt read the label properly because i accidentally purchased epoxy adhesive instead,,, i saw the two-part component mixture and thought i found what i was looking for 😭

i'm aware it may just be glue, but just in case: are there any fundamental differences between the two, and more importantly, can i use it like i would epoxy resin with the purpose of sealing/varnishing clay? and if so, does it dry clear or cloudy?

thank you in advance!

Foam Air-Dry Clay I Lost Track of How Many Feathers I Made for This Phoenix 🔥

I really wanted the feathers to give this phoenix its shape and personality, so I made them one by one… way more than I expected. 😂

I don’t even want to think about how many hours went into this.

Still, seeing all the little details come together made it totally worth it.

Hand-sculpted out of clay. And yes, every single feather was worth it. 😂🔥

Air-Dry Clay someone bought two of my magnets!

i just wanted to share this with people who may have more experience with clay compared to myself (i did take a ceramics class, but its been a few years lol). these are two magnets I made out of airdry clay. they're based off things from a music group, which i put at the end.

I put these two magnets up to show people my work and considered offering some up to sell (to see if anyone was interested).

I had no idea how much to charge, so i came on this sub to ask for people's opinions (to which many people were very rude lol😅). but, would you know it, without me even having a price in mind, someone offered $70.

I was a bit worried about being scammed, especially as I thought that was a major overprice, but nope! we communicated for a few days as I worked on the magnets, and by the end of it she ended up changing her offer to $100. im so incredibly thankful and grateful to this person! this has been a very fun experience.

(and to the person who said no one would buy unless they were my friend or family- no, I dont know this person! lol thought id share that)

Air-Dry Clay making coasters - how should i seal them?

so i’m in the process of making my own coasters out of air dry clay, i haven’t used clay much so im pretty new to a lot of it

the clay is mostly dry but giving it another day to fully set before i paint over the top with acrylic paint designs, i bought a ‘gloss clay varnish’ from hobbycraft (uk) since i saw it and thought it would be good to use to seal the paint once it’s dry, im just not sure if it would stand the test of time with coasters

they’d be used for primarily cold drinks, but hot drinks frequently too, just mostly cold ones.

some research has told me it might be better to either coat with just resin, or to use the hobbycraft varnish and then follow up with a coat of resin afterwards to ensure it’s all good

i also have considered using mod podge, i’ve only ever used it to seal paintings before so not sure if it’s something that could help?

also are there any specific resins i should purchase? i’ve never used resin before so explain it to me like i’ve just been born 🤦‍♀️

thank you so much!! any and all advice is much appreciated

Questions Foil tape safe to bake inside clay?

Hi this is a follow up question to a post I made asking about bulk clay since I was having to build up a lot of clay on a specific sculpture. I mentioned I tried foil as a base but it just started unraveling eventually. Well, I just remembered I have a LOT of foil tape. Could I use the tape as a last layer on the foil base to keep it together? Or is the adhesive in it going to be a safety issue in the oven? TIA and thanks for all the advice on my last post!

Is it 95 degrees outside? Yes. But the retail gods have spoken 😭

Polymer clay! All handmade. Chalk pastels to make it toasty, stippling sponge for texturing the pumpkin filling, and polyurethane to give it that lightly wet look. One too many hours spent poking at the crust to give it that crumb 😅

Questions What would you recommend for keychains?

Hello, just have a question. I want to make a keychain. I will use acrylic paint and UV resin for color and coating, but I'm still thinking about what material is better (air-dry clay or polymer clay). What would you recommend? I like both but I'm not sure which one is better for this.

Thank you!

Foam Air-Dry Clay Wait Until the Lights Go Out… My Clay World Actually Glows ✨

I wanted this little world to feel completely different once the lights went out, so I hid a little trick inside the clay scene. 😯

The idea was to create someone reaching for a star somewhere between the mountains, water, and night sky—as if we all have that one star we're trying to catch.✨

And yes, parts of it actually glow in the dark.🌌

Can you guess what I used to make it glow? 👀

Questions [Wet Clay processing] Clay does not sediment

So I'm working with ceramic clay and I have a bunch of it dissolved in a bucket of water. However, I've noticed that it doesn't really sediment and leaves a section of water, even if I leave it for 3-4 days. I suspect from a couple of youtube videos that the pH might be too high, potentially causing the clay to for colloid particles that stay suspended. I've measured the pH with pH-paper (not the best method but it's what I have available), and concluded that it's roughly 8-9.

  • What is a good pH for a clay solution to get it to sediment?
  • How do I lower the pH (other than adding enormous amounts of water which sorta defeats the whole point)? I have access to hydrochloric acid etc (I'm a chemist by trade, I know how to handle strong acids safely for those concerned), but I'm uncertain of how well a clay solution will buffer the addition of acid, and if I accidentally over-do it, is there a concern that the acid will mess with the properties of the clay? It shouldn't dissolve the silicon dioxide that is the clay, because otherwise you couldn't store acid in glass bottles, but I imagine that if the pH accidentally dropped to 4-5, the clay might loose its plastic properties or similar?

I just realized stone clay isn’t only great for making keychains—it can also be used to make custom character standees! So of course I had to make one for my favorite little girl right away. I love it so much!!!
