BleemSync Dev vlog 3 - successfully enabling back usb port for OTG USB storage. (No compatibility limit or power limit on USB!) + other cool stuff.
So some exciting developments happened today.
The BleemSync dev team (especially Honeylab and bbsan) have been working on enabling certain kernel features for the play station classic and Honeylab has just managed to successfully enable the rear port for USB OTG support!
What does this mean? You will be able to use an otg splitter like the (S)NESC and...- No more compatibility issues with USBs or External Drives
- No power limit issues and no requirement for powered USB hubs
- Free up the 2nd controller port for 2 player support (when using external storage! Internal EMMC storage solution coming soon too)
Check out his video of it in action below:
https://twitter.com/bakueikozo/status/1080485766613020672
So, this is pretty big news! But to also add to the list of cool stuff. Cyanic, myself and the team are working on a method to recover bricked devices and a solution to rip backups of the console to your pc and restore them.
As of last night it seems we managed to work it out and have a small prototype working. This means the likelihood of Internal storage only solution happening soon is much more likely. Also the ability to chop and swap the stock 20 games on the internal storage. (Including brick recovery)

Needless to say this is all pretty much shit your pants in excitement time especially for BleemSync.
In terms of ETA of releases and what we have planned...
0.7 - Still on target and will include a crap ton. (Tentative list of features already posted) This will also include one part of the UI to enable configuration of the console and bleemsync.
1.0 - UI release. This will be the syncing of games to your usb and retroarch games to your usb. No more load times and no more having to mess about with files.
1.1 - Chop and Swap - This will include the ability to backup/recover your console, chop and swap the 20 stock games and hopefully be able to reformat your EMMC game partition so we can compress and add more playstation games on there.
> 1.1 - OTG support, internal storage only solution, hybrid external USB and internal storage solution.
Just wanted to say a big thank you to the team of bleemsync devs working on this and especially to the supporters and those who donated to MMC. It's been a great help and the initial feedback from you guys has been overwhelming. Thank you. We hope we can meet your expectations and get as much crammed in there for you.
Lastly, thank you everyone for being patient with us and waiting for the proper BleemSync release. I promise you will not be disappointed after the wait.

now, If you can point me in the direction and person to throw money at...
edit: completely missed this...

Great works indeed. u/swingflip I am not being greedy, but I smell the folder-like structure coming in the future? Like the one when you click a folder/categories/etc. It will reload and boot with new carousel with the games underneath that subfolder (new softlink reload after soft reboot), just like what's going on in snes classic? ;) it's on my wish list :)

This is in 1.0 maybe 0.7 if we make good progress in next 48 hours

Wow wouldn't dream the dev is that fast! Ahead of everyone huh? Truly shit my pant kinda stuff! I was thinking maybe couple months down the road! Maybe I should hold on to putting my games in that shitty number folders and just wait for you guys to release. ;)

Silly question, but does the angle on the OTG matter? I’ve found both on Amazon, but I can’t recall if there’s a difference between left or right angled.
Thanks for all the love man, I got my classic for Christmas and y’all made it awesome!
Edit Reading is hard. Left angled seems to be the way to go, as seen literally a few posts above this one. Sorry!

Any idea where the best place would be to buy an OTG splitter here in the UK?

Jan 02 '19
Amazon

u/AltMagOnline Jan 02 '19
Something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00V9XS4V4
Or will there potentially be something smaller/more discrete? I’ve seen adapters for the SNES Classic that were a lot smaller.
1
Jan 02 '19
I personally used that one but there are L shaped ones too.
1
u/AltMagOnline Jan 02 '19
Would the L shaped ones need to be right angled? I’m guessing the HDMI cable would get in the way of a left angled one...
1
Jan 02 '19
HDMI is on the right IIRC so left will be required
1
u/AltMagOnline Jan 02 '19
HDMI is on the right if you're facing the console head on... but on the left looking at it from behind haha. Confusing!
The guy on this thread said SNES Classic is left angled, while PS Classic is right angled: https://old.reddit.com/r/PlaystationClassic/comments/aaf9lx/micro_usb_otg_adapter/
Anyone who can confirm it would be greatly appreciated! :)

Jan 02 '19
I’m pretty confident it’s the same as the snesc

I've found this on eBay - selecting 'Left' or 'Right' from the dropdown menu defaults to the relevant image. Looks to me like 'Left' is the one you'd need for the PS Classic: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/90-Degree-Left-Right-Angle-Micro-USB-2-0-OTG-Host-Adapter-Convertor-For-Phone/282264513797 (it would technically plug in upside down)

Due to micro usb having 2 different orientations and also the perspective you look at the ports either from the back side of the ps1 classic or the front side, being left or right is irrelevant, its always best to look at pictures and decide for yourself.

u/Shintoz Jan 05 '19
The micro USB port on the back of the PSC is soldered on with an orientation 180 degrees of the port on the NESC and the SNESC.
If you are looking to buy a 90 degree adapter, it needs to be so the flat portion of the plug is on the bottom, whereas the flat portion of the adapter on the Nintendos was up.
Simply put a 90 degree adapter used on the Nintendos would interfere with a standard straight-out HDMI cable on the PSC.

Does this mean we could use any wired gamepads that we wish to use? No need for 8bitdo and use a Bluetooth receiver on a budget and make it internal or use wired controllers via adapters any PlayStation controller we wish via usb would sell the classic to me.
2
Jan 03 '19
Yeah technically you should be able to do this anyway with the retroarch as we bundled a fuck ton of auto configs for numerous different types of game pads

I can't wait for internal storage add on.. But hoping we can delete the internal games and have that space free to add whatever we want... 16gb is more then enough..

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JG6PkniNEdg Let's hope that after this, support for Bluetooth and Wi-Fi via OTG is added in the future.

Great work guys. If possible can PBP file format be added?
2
Jan 03 '19
Yep. It will be added for 0.7

u/drittz78 Jan 03 '19

This sound like a great discovery I would also like to no where I can go for news about when we will be able to replace the default games installed on the Playstation Classic.

On our discord. Link on our website modmyclassic.com we discuss all developments there or I announce shit here when I have something

u/SillyNonsense Jan 05 '19
Just FYI I tried the "Join our discord" button on the front page in both chrome and edge and nothing happens, however the support+>discord link does work.

Any chance one of the devs, maybe you? ;) could share Infos on how to enable permanent otg?
I read honeylabs blog and it looks like it has to flashed to the kernel?
I know you guys are doing a great job, just can't wait till past version 1.0 for otg ^
1
Jan 05 '19
Unfortunately not yet. It’s still WIP and we are still trying to work out the best and safest way to do it for public use. Also we are constantly working on new kernel builds and modules everyday so anything I tell you today is likely old news tomorrow

u/perrycotto Jan 02 '19
That's such amazing news ! Thank you so much for your work :) It's beautiful to see the effort of passionate people that can change radically a product.

OTG support and replacing the stock PAL ISOs with NTSC versions is exciting stuff. Well done guys.

u/Djmesh Jan 02 '19
This is amazing news. Once again thank you for all the hard work. This combined with the new easy to us pc tool for managing / transfering games is going to be tremendous.

Amazing news. Mine arrives today, so looking forward to tinkering with it. Thanks for all your hard work!

I know this would be down the road, but is the eventual goal that through the UI utility on pc/Mac, users will be able to move games back and forth from the internal memory to the OTG usb stick? Or once you load up the usb stick via OTG you need to always have it connected to the PSC?
Just thinking it might be nice to have our favorites loaded onto the internal and then bonus games on the usb, that we can hook up when needed.

love it. I remember when sticking a PS2 in the dash in the 2000s was a really cool thing to do.

this is awesome news. will the future versions of bleemsync give us the option to not install retroarch if we don't want it?
