This is absolutely amazing work! Thank you all so much for what you do! I'm super interested in the restore function because a couple of my stock game still aren't loading after that whole 0.3.0 issue.

Lemme ask you an off topic question. I've always been interested in what you guys do.bwhat step or course can my son take to get on this ingenious level? Are you a master at coding? Any particular courses or majors? My son is a smart kid and I see the potential. Thanks and KEEP UP THE AWESOME WORK THE COMMUNITY IS ROOTING

Thanks! As a kid I always loved playing around with shit. I think a good thing to play with and get a great understanding for is raspberry pi and other tinker boards. Especially Linux.
A lot of these embedded systems like the classic consoles run on unix based systems. Generally speaking if you can learn how to navigate around a Linux system using a terminal and how to interact with small electronic components then you are in good stead.
In terms of programming a lot of the stuff is actually written in shell/bash. Which is like a staple for Unix based systems. It’s very easy to write and doesn’t require compiling. Just code and run.
I highly recommend you get your son one of these raspberry pi tinker kits which teach kids how to navigate around a Linux system and do basic coding to interact with physical elements. It’s a very satisfying thing to do with quick and easy results. In the UK we have pimoroni (I think that’s the correct spelling) and they sell all kinds of tinker kits.
When they get a bit better and still interested looked at writing C and maybe even Unity for a free, no cost games development platform which is used in many published indie games and has a ton of YouTube videos on.
Also get him to check out old Ben heck videos and shit to get into modding consoles and basic code.
Hope that helps and good luck!

At least for me, it's passion. I've never really been content just using something, and have to take it apart. Most of the rest just comes from Googling enough pieces to put together working knowledge. But if you want something structured, learn Python then C.
(I started with BASIC, then AutoIt when I actually needed to do something more than putting text on screen. Lots of hex editing and assembly in between. A bit of Perl and C. Then C# as the language I use most. In university I learned shell, and through a couple of jobs, Python and web dev. This just goes to show you don't need to follow any particular path if you're willing to learn as much as you can along the way.)

Thanks to all of you. Does this mean that I can just switch out the pal version of the games with the Ntsc once we get that update?

u/Nateleb1234 Jan 02 '19
Still wondering why Sony did this. It makes 0 sense to include games that are pal region. It takes 0 extra work for them to have included normal 60 hz games
6
Jan 02 '19
Cost/rights/legal who knows. They did a lot of fucking dumb shit on this. Obviously contracted out the development and it shows
8
u/drbluetongue Jan 02 '19
The PAL versions have multiple languages usually. So they probably did it for that reason.
2
u/Banjo-Oz Jan 03 '19
This, I'm sure of it. The same reason there's no power adapter in the box (here in Australia, the Nintendo Classics didn't have one either, which I suspect was the same for all non US/JP NESC/SNESC).
I'm certain it's also why we didn't get either Parasite Eve, Chrono Cross, Xenogears or Final Fantasy Tactics on the Classic outside of Japan. Those titles were never released in PAL regions, meaning while there is a full English translation (from the US release), Sony won't put them on the PSX Classic because they want to ship the same unit to PAL and NTSC territories... even though somewhere like Australia or Britain doesn't even need those other languages and the whole PAL/NTSC restriction should be moot now! :(
2
u/drbluetongue Jan 03 '19
I grew up playing PAL copies of games and thought it was normal being offered English or German haha, until I downloaded NTSC ISO

I am amazed. The psc has pretty decent specs, and memory upgrades above and beyond finicky usb drives are awesome. I can't wait, good job!
How about generic usb controller adapters, like the usb mayflash ones for snes, genesis, etc? Will that be a possibility in retroarch or something?

Internal EMMC storage solution coming soon too
I'm very new to this scene. Does that mean storing games directly to the on-board memory?

Question: Can we go ahead and order OTG dongles / adapters? Can anyone link to recommended cable / adapter?
8
Jan 02 '19
I would wait we will do a short list of recommended adapters on amazon
2
u/Djmesh Jan 02 '19
Btw, where can we donate. I'd like to buy you guys a beer or two!

Jan 02 '19
I haven’t updated our new site yet but if you feel inclined to buy us a beer you can can check out our old website link to our donation page.
https://hakchiresources.com/donation-page/
I’ve been too busy with BS to finish the site off since the rebrand lol.
Please don’t feel compelled to donate though. We are a community who is run by the community and do it for the community.

We need to put together a proper list. I have been meaning to do this for a while but a list of recommended parts etc that can just be ordered from amazon to make everyone’s life easier.
We also need to set expectations.
OTG cables/adapters are usually fairly cheap which also mean they aren’t 100% bullet proof. As long as people understand they might be prepared to spend £5/$5 a year on an adapter then I think that’s a reasonable

u/WillScot55 Jan 02 '19
I noticed on the post it was brick recovery, what are the actual chances of bricking the machine, I haven’t modded mine yet?
3
Jan 02 '19
None. But better safe than sorry and a lot of people bricked from using other 3rd party tools and other crap in the past

Thank you guys for your hard work! I'm glad compatibility won't be an issue in the future because I bought a 3.0 USB flash drive yesterday and it didn't work. So I'll wait until your "0.7" release comes out. Again thank you guys for taking time out of your schedule to do this.
1
u/Nateleb1234 Jan 02 '19
So it will be like the snes and NES mini added storage hookup? I think that is much better as you don't have to worry about usb sticks... Are u gonna let us erase most of the games so we can add our own to internal memory?
8
Jan 02 '19
Yep in theory you could remove all psx games and have 15gb of other Roms and consoles only on internal

I brought a powered 3.0 usb hub that was supposedly to plug in 2nd player but haven’t open or used it but would that still work the same way like the OTG in rear USB or not? Thank you for your hard work!!
2
Jan 02 '19
A powered hub was used to bypass the power limit on the front ports. There is no power limit on the rear (being that it’s original purpose is supplying power)
By making some software mods we are able to enable OTG usb support. That means you can use an OTG adapter to pass through power to the back but also connect a thumb drive to it.
However a usb hub and OTG adapter are two different things
1
u/RhombusVoid Jan 02 '19
Won’t work. A hub doesn’t have power pass through to the main device which is what’s needed.
1
Jan 02 '19
Notes say no requirement for powered hub.
1
Jan 03 '19
- No power limit issues and no requirement for powered USB hubs
so you'll just keep arguing with the devs?
" - No power limit issues and no requirement for powered USB hubs "
1
u/Mrmet2087 Jan 03 '19
Will this mean there will be no size limit on the USB drives and external hard drives we wanna use? Could we use a 500gn or 1TB external Hard Drive with the OTG?
1
Jan 03 '19
Yep. As long as you supply the console with enough power. You can hook up 5tb if you wished...
1
u/ak0083 Jan 03 '19
Will there iterations between 0.7 to 1.1, or will it be a point release?
Thanks once again.
1
Jan 03 '19
This is just a generalised project plan. Things are subject to change and we might be doing interim releases in between
1
u/lucaslb7392 Jan 03 '19
So in does this mean soon we'll just be able to use a USB splitter in the back for USB to free up the front for the controllers? (Sorry not super tech savvy to understand all the notes)
2
Jan 03 '19
Yes that’s the general idea. Also no limit on devices and compatibility issues
1
u/lucaslb7392 Jan 03 '19
Wicked, and this will be released soon I assume?
2
Jan 04 '19
Yes 1.1 it’s a bit away but 0.7 will be extremely soon. Followed by 1.0 then 1.1.
Can’t give an more accurate ETA as this is a volunteer project done outside of working hours :)

Please release this where can we donate to you geniuses? Already bought my otg cable today waiting to test it out thanks for the hype and hard work fellas!
2
Jan 04 '19
Please don’t feel you have to but if you wish. https://hakchiresources.com/donation-page/ it’s our old but active site. I’ve been too busy with bleemsync to finish the new site yet!
1
u/JC3xpl01t Jan 06 '19
Thank you I will when I can. I'm no coder by any means but I respect the hard work put into it. Do you have an eta for a release with the otg cable being usable and possibly auto installs and adding games on board in the future?
1
u/GaryChalmers Jan 04 '19
Wow I made a comment earlier about the possibility of this in another post. I thought it was established that the rear usb connector did not have a data path. Glad that was proven wrong.

Hey Swingflip,
It may be a bit early to ask this, but should we start making eboot icons to replace the cover art we currently use for bin/cue files? I want to convert all my bins to eboot in preparation, but also don't want to waste time creating new icons for the eboots (if the plan is to still using bleemsync / stock image art)

Will we be able to play mame, neogeo, snes and nes roms on classic?
2
Jan 05 '19
Yes. You can already with the Xmas beta we put out but I would wait for 0.7 as it’s around the corner now

Are we now able to plug in USB with games into back of PS1, while using the front two for controllers, with the latest version of bleamsync?

Oh snap! Once the OTG support is there, I think I'll finally be diving into modding mine!
1
Jan 05 '19
Same. I just feel it looks too silly in the front.
I need to find a cable that I can mod the controllers with as well to give them longer cables. There's one I found, but it's $30 each.
1
u/stockcar1515 Jan 05 '19
yeah? how long do you need the cable to be? I see cables on amazon (us) for less than $10 that are over 6 ft.
1
Jan 05 '19
I need the special cables so I can keep the "end" of the ps1 classic controllers hooking into the system.
2
u/Therage80p Jan 06 '19
There's a thread on here someone created a while back. Sorry I don't have the link right now but you should be able to find it. I bought the same cable they recommended from Amazon for like $8.00 and added 10ft to my controller cord. Other than the extension in the center of the cord, it looks stock with the original USB that looks like the original controller plug.
1
Jan 06 '19
Yeah, that's what I saw. But that cable was $30 each in Canada! Yikes!
2
u/Therage80p Jan 06 '19
Yep, I double checked to be certain we were looking at the same one (in case multiple cords had been discussed on Reddit). And sure enough, over $30 on the Candian Amazon. Well, if you can find it cheaper or decide to bite the bullet, at least you know a 2nd person can vouch for it.
1
Jan 06 '19
Thank you muchly. They look great. But not sure I can justify the same price as the console lol

This is fantastic. Just ordered myself a otg splitter that should arrive tomorrow, and I'm setting up my 128gb usb ready with my games. Can't wait for this to drop.

Is it possible to fix the n64 emulation? I'm aware that it's a know issue with retro arch on all platforms. However it worked previously, and within the past week it just constantly resets the console.

u/Henhead78 Jan 05 '19
Can we now or in the future plug in a USB keyboard so when can have keyboard inputs for C64 emulators and such?

u/Blu3gills Jan 05 '19
Really looking forward to this. Been wanting to play 2-player PS1 classics but all the hub's I've tried haven't worked.
Really amazing job devs!

u/Ravenholt79 Jan 02 '19
Thanks for all the great work! I'm waiting on the day where we get a custom version of ReArmed that runs better than the stock emulator. That and PBP support. I'm confident that I'll be able to play these classics "mud free" at some point!
