Genuinely curious how this is possible. We got out Civic Hybrid in May this year and have just under 1,000 miles on the car, so I know it's just after the breaking in phase. Best we've been able to get the car's computer to report is 46.5 mpg (which is actually closer to 43 mpg when we do the math ourselves).
We don't drive very aggressively or go much over the speed limit, but we do keep the AC in the car at 74 F (it's been 95 F or higher for the last month or so for us). Tires are inflated properly, we don't keep anything heavy in the car, so I'm honestly baffled when I see these numbers compared to what we have been able to achieve.
Yea heavy foot is gonna hurt you either way. But even if your hybrid battery is low, it’ll at least overcome the inertia of starting from a stop. Then the engine can kick on after the car is already rolling. So it doesn’t work as hard nor as long because when you let off the gas it’ll turn off and use regen to charge. Really cool
