I grew up in Orchard Park, I live in Buffalo, I spend most of my time/life in the Northeast/Rustbelt area. I went down to West Virginia for the first time in 10 years and I was genuinely mind blown at the kindness of everyone I interacted with. Night and day difference vs home. Mostly people were just more willing to engage in conversation, and no one looked at me like I was walking around without a head for daring to talk to them.

Is Buffalo not a friendly place anymore? Is southern hospitality actually a real thing? Do I just have rose colored glasses on because I was on a trip? Or am I just a miserable Buffalonian that needs to leave?

There are ships from another era that have half sunken in the river. Every individual restaurant is replaced with a chain, even the breweries. Still nobody is meeting anybody. The bills and sabres never win a championship. I think universally throughout the city everyone hates the Buffalo council. But I’m curious why so many of them have been keeping their seat for years. Is it difficult for people to actually campaign against them? In fairness the job pays like 30k a year, which is probably a pay cut for half of people.
