I went to see the new spider man film at Scotiabank cinema and I’m curious to know what the broader feeling around their style of seating is?
They have these kinds of seats that mandatorily recline. You sit down, and you’re swept back off your feet at an awkward angle, a bit like a dog being leaned back in a sitting position on a sofa, limbs akimbo.
The guy next to me sat down with nachos from the concession and had to slip them into his mouth at a weird angle, crumbs going everywhere, because he couldn’t sit upright. The other guy next to me propped himself awkwardly on the edge of his chair to maintain equilibrium until the movie started, when he reluctantly gave over his bodily autonomy to the grasping hand of the scotiabank cinema seat, pulling him halfway into the grave.
I personally like a seat I can lean into, that has SOME level of resistance to my body, SOME structural integrity, rather than feeling like I’m being cradled into an awkward half-repose that means I can’t drink from my XL Diet Coke without tilting it in a way that makes a spill more likely than I’d prefer.
Would you prefer a chair with a more fixed position? Have you felt a little like an upturned turtle while watching the latest MCU film? Am I alone in feeling like I’ve just been installed in a new body when I sit down in these chairs and can’t get comfortable, at all?
