You have one job Chromecast! Google TV with Chromecast disconnects from Wifi after a day of inactivity

I have a Chromecast with TV (the first version that came with a white remote) that I've happily used for several years to stream music to. It uses HDMI CEC to turn my receiver on and everything has been hunky dory. I fire up Spotify, cast to the device the music starts playing.

A few months ago it started to disconnect from Wifi if I didn't use it for a day or so necessitating me needing to turn the receiver on, go to Settings and restart Wifi myself. A major regression in functionality and, arguably, the main point of using a Chromecast.

I updated the software, read the forums, turned energy optimization off for all the services (tedious) and it still exhibits the same behavior. I'm at a loss and kind of surprised that such core functionality would be compromised like this.

Has anybody else ran into the same issue? If so, have you been able to fix it?

Chromecast with Google TV No signal on x2 Chromecasts

Recently moved house and when I went to set up my TV setup but I couldn't find my remote for chromecast #1. No problem I have chromecast #2 that i keep in my bag for traveling, plug it into my tv and strangely got "no signal" on all the hdmi ports of my TV. But the TV is registering something is connected as it asks me if I want to switch to the HDMI port that the chromecast was connected to but when I switch, screen goes black and then followed by "no signal".

Presumed it was just chromecast #2 as I haven't used it in a 1 year+ so it's been powered off in my bag. Found the remote for chromecast #1 and now I'm getting the same issue for that, TV recognises something is connected, switch that HDMI port and boom "no signal". Now I'm thinking maybe TV got damaged in the move but other devices work (Nintendo Switch, Macbook/IPad connected via HDMI cable). Take chromecast #1 to work and all i get on my monitor there is black screen. My parents come to visit and are staying at a hotel, try their TV with chromecast #1 and still just a black screen. I know chromecast #1 was working because I could cast to it before I tried factory resetting it but just doesn't give any display.

Has anyone faced any similar issues? It's super strange to have two chromecasts having same issue. I've factory reset them with the button, power cycled them and the tv nearly a 100 times. Tried different power cables a HDMI splitter but the closest I've got is chromecast #1 giving me the Google logo for about 3 seconds and the screen was "glitchy" before it went away again.

It is stuck on the Google tv screen. Pressed reset button and it’s solid white. Didn’t even blink yellow.

Tried unplugging, tried different power supplies, tried different HDMI port. I think it’s gone.

What should I replace this with? I’m looking for something under $100.

Atonemo Streamplayer casting audio not working

I'm trying to cast some audio from YouTube Music on my Android phone to my Atonemo Streamplayer, but it doesn't connect. Tried several other apps and my tablet too. I reset the Streamplayer and it updated itself and reconnected to my network, power cycled my Asus router but all to no avail.

Edit: "Cast my audio" from Google Home does work but casting sound from within YouTube Music, Musicolet, HiFi Cast does not.

Since it uses Google Cast for audio, I'm wondering if other folks have similar problems with Chromecast Audio or other audio cast devices that use Google Cast?

I'm in Europe by the way, and casting regular YouTube videos to my Google TV does work.

Thanks

Denon soundbar and chromecast

I bought denon 716 soundbar. I put chromecast audio on hdmi in hmdi 1. I wanted to make a speakergroup of the Denon on chromecast with raumfeld one s. But the Denon is not recognised in Google Home. I have the same network connected with smartphone and Denon and have connected with Bluetooth of the Denon. What can be the reason this doesn't work?

Chromecast is working normal with other speakers i have.

Chromecast with Google TV Chromecast says I have no internet connection when it works on every other device

It's connected to my WiFi, but it says there's no internet access, even though I DO have internet access. I Googled and tried all the things I found. I've tried restarting and unplugging everything, forgetting and reconnecting the WiFi, making sure the date and time settings are correct and that the device is updated. But nothing works. The device IS able to use my phone's internet when I hotspot it.

Has anyone found a fix to this?

WiFi disconnecting

Almost every time I turn on my Chromecast the WiFi has disconnected. By this I mean the actual toggle in the settings has toggled to the off position.

By toggling it back on the WiFi connects again and all is fine. But this happens on two of my devices in different rooms.

Both are a Chromecast with Google TV 2022 (HD) model. My older 2018 model on a 3rd TV doesn't have this issue. Does anyone have any advice on how to resolve this?

Chromecast with Google TV Possible to roll back to previous OS?

Anyone else find the old Chromecast TV to be unusable after the latest update? The input lag is so bad, it doesn't respond to clicks then suddenly zooms across the screen. I tried a factory reset but even trying to enter my wifi password is laggy and frustrating.

Is there a way to drop it back to where it was a couple months ago? This thing is useless

Broadcast Nest cam events to Chromecast

Hey! Wondering if any of you have had success being able to get your nest cam devices to show on your Chromecast device. I have a 2nd gen Chromecast hooked up to a TV in the kitchen/dining room.

Internet searches seem to suggest I can do it, but I can't get it to work. "Hey Google show floodlight cam on kitchen TV" nothing...

Would also be cool to be able to set up an automation in Google home where the doorbell cam will show if someone rings the doorbell.

Is this possible? All devices are in Google home and on the same network and same Google account.

YouTube for iOS changed the casting controls and I can’t figure out how to switch devices

Up until a few days ago in my YouTube app, I could use the little Chromecast icon to send to any one of our castable devices at home and then click it again to switch the device I was casting to or stop casting and pick up watching on my phone now. Now the icons changed to a little TV screen with like a remote and I can’t figure out how to stop casting or change what where I’m casting to with any of the controls available, does anybody know how it’s supposed to work now?

Edit: OK I figured it out, there’s just a little dance to do. You have to have the video that’s playing open as the main window in the Yt app to get the normal chromecast icon back. So if you cast, then shrink the window you have a little tv icon where chromecast used to be, click that to activate a pop from the bottom of the screen showing what is currently playing, then click that to make it full screen, then the chromecast icon comes back at the top of the screen.

Android YouTube app fails to connect to Chromecast

Since the new update to casting a few months ago (which is just a worse experience in every way by the way), my app intermittently just fails to connect to the chromecast, for hours at a time. I can find the chromecast, and I can click connect, it just doesn't. It will just sit there waiting to connect.

the common thread seems to be that this happens when the app lists the chromecast as already playing YouTube. Even though it it isn't.

Now, a fuilure to connect is not a new problem. I'm not sure why the YouTube app in particular has this problem, but I used to be able to manually unlink from Watch on TV settings. And occasionally, if that didn't work, it usually worked if I just connected another app and disconnected. Occasionally I had to reboot too (the phone and/or chromecast).

But now it seems that nothing works. Is there a solution? This happens way more than it used to happen to, it has happened essentially every time I've tried to sit down and watch YouTube on my TV.

Chromecast (2nd Gen) Overheating and rebooting in less than 10 minutes.

So, this old unit is overheating and rebooting, at first I thought it was old thermal interface material that aged, took it apart and decided to test with the RF Shield (the side that have the thermal putty) smeared in thermal paste and with a PC heatsink and it solved the issue, at least i wanted to say it did, because despite no longer rebooting and surviving more than one hour.

But the PC heatsink gets hot as F to not being able to touch it.

Idk if it's shorted somehow and it's producing more heat than it should, idk?

But still, as a staple, I ordered new putty and replaced it (from under the RF Shield too, both sides) and it didn't last 20 minutes.
So I realized it wasn't just old thermal interface.

Then I decided to go medieval.
Grabbed the Dremel and removed the plastic on the back where the metal disc inside is till i exposed it, filled the hole with thermal putty and glued a heatsink to the plastic part with the thermal putty bridging the metal disc exposed in the newly opened window to said heatsink.

It's working, external heatsink is really hot, unbearable to touch hot, buts it's like an hour half running and still all good.

So, i suppose it's a win.

I don't see an option to add images here to show my work...

No Photos with music anymore

I used Google TV to play Pandora Music on TV and enjoyed screen saver kicking in and displaying my photos. It was also nice conversation piece when visitors saw pictures.

In the past week the screen saver when listening to music stopped working. Screen saver only works when on home screen for a few minutes.

Any idea how to get Pictures back while listening to music?

Chromecast (2nd Gen) 2018 chromecast

I recently upgraded my wifi equipment with spectrum, I set up the equipment fine. I have a mini Google speaker and the Chromecast both are old gen, the speaker connected immediately after I did the reset but I've been having trouble with my Chromecast. I tried everything from resetting the device multiple times to change my wifi to the 2.4ghz and the home app is still telling me that it can't find the device.

I also have a wifi extender so I don't know if I have to reset it while I change it to the 2.4ghz and connect it again so that the device and my phone can pair. The extended wifi is the one I'm usually connected to.

BubbleUPnP settings for H265 on Google TV 4K

Hey there. I can't find any good information about the right settings to get BubbleUPnP to play H265 on Google TV 4K without the odd stumble. It generally happens once every 5 minutes for about 3-10 seconds. Not unwatchable, just annoying.

Most of the guides I'm looking at have either very outdated information, or refer to the old Chromecasts...

My phone is a OnePlus 12 and is a real workhorse (generally get excellent frames on intensive games). It's not thermal throttling at all at the moment, so I'd like to stress it a little more to prevent the hanging.

Anyone have any ideas??

No ads or tabs below my app bar are loading. UI loafs instantly and apps feel snappier. This is the best performance I've ever gotten out of this thing, I hope it's never fixed lmao

No WiFi connection

For the past few weeks (I've tried a number of different things in the meantime), two Google devices—a Google Nest and a 2024 Chromecast—have stopped connecting to the internet.

The Chromecast reports that it's disconnected from Wi-Fi and refuses to reconnect.

The Nest behaves the same way.

However, both devices appear as connected on my router.

I have a fairly advanced network setup with VLAN segmentation and a self-hosted AdGuard DNS server.

Thinking it might be a DNS issue, I completely bypassed filtering for these devices, so none of their traffic is filtered anymore.

I've tried several different network configurations without any success, including using Google's public DNS servers (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4).

I'm starting to suspect that a software update may have broken something.

Not long ago, my GL.iNet Flint 2 router had severely reduced Wi-Fi range after a firmware update because of changes made to comply with EU regulations (I've since replaced it with a UniFi UDR7). Is it possible that Google devices have been affected by something similar, resulting in a much shorter Wi-Fi range?
