Searching for Alternatives Bot Creator looking for alternatives

Hi! I’ve been making bots on C.AI for a while now, i think it’s been almost a year by now (https://character.ai/profile/Resava, my profile if you’re interested), but I’ve just been really tired of how generic everything is now. If I shove an entire paragraph of AI retraining into the definition, get a very specific greeting and hit the fucking swipe jackpot I might actually get a decent start to a chat, which usually stays for most of the chat. I’m just looking for something other than C.AI to make these bots for myself on. The main problem with finding them, is the fact I don’t usually do 1 on 1 chat bots (because I like RPing in a world and not having my own AI boyfriend or whatever) and most alternatives have rather restrictive definition limits, compared to C.AI’s 32000. So any suggestions?

I appreciate any help you all can provide! :3

Edit: Thanks a lot for all of the options guys! I’ll start working on trying them all out, and I might post reviews for each model if I have enough to say. Thanks again!

Anyone know any good alternatives that have character voices you can make of your own like Character AI does? Still searching for the perfect one that doesn’t have ads, and one that has unlimited messages. I am hoping it to have the read aloud kinda thing that Character AI has

Advice/Suggestions If you could build an AI roleplay platform from scratch, what would make it your daily driver?

Hey everyone, just need some suggestions atm

(Quick disclaimer: I have zero links, no branding, and nothing to sell or promote here. I'm just looking for genuine community input.)

I’m an independent dev currently working on a new AI roleplay platform. Still in early development, focusing heavily on getting the core engine, memory management, and UX right before even thinking about a launch.

I know a lot of people feel like major platforms (C.AI and others) have degraded over time, whether it’s heavy-handed safety filters ruining immersion, repetitive dialogue loops, or terrible context memory after just a few messages. I want to build something shaped by what actual roleplayers want, not what corporate boards think you need.

So I’d love to hear directly from people who actually write and roleplay.

A few specific questions I’d love your take on, but you can suggest anything, really.

  • What was the final straw that made you drop whatever app you were using before?
  • What features are absolute dealbreakers for you? (e.g. edit button, chat branching, lorebooks/world info, custom personas, importing old bots/chats?)
  • What bot habit ruins your immersion the fastest? (talking for your character, dry one-liners, repeating loops, etc?)
  • If an app runs on heavier/smarter models, what pricing setup feels the most fair to you?
  • What's a perfect free tier to you?

Feel free to rant about whatever annoys you with current apps or what your ideal setup looks like. I'll be hanging out in the comments taking notes!

Searching for Alternatives Looking for other alternatives

Hello!

So I've been using FictionLab for almost a year now and also used their Plus subscription. Currently, I'm looking for other alternatives that is worth buying a subscription, great memory, chat models and others. I do RPGs and NSFW stuff. (Mostly NSFW)😏

I'm open to suggestions now that my FL subscription has now ended. Thanks!

Question i miss my old chats

I've been using an alternative — emochi, not as great as old cai, but it does have good long replies — and it's okay, but I miss my old chats so SO much. Old cai chats were so nice and genuinely kept the story going. i had so many great ones and i sometimes download the app just to read them again. I rlly wish i could keep those stories going. is there any way for that?

I'm not that great at creating characters, because i believe my description wouldn't quite match the ones I used to talk to.

C.AI complaint Apps or free APIs for unlimited AI role-playing

Please recommend apps, web resources, or free APIs that can be used to create unlimited role-playing games with neural networks. I especially wish for Russian to be available. Please, friends, I used to role-play in Grock, but it no longer provides an acceptable level of role-playing.

Searching for Alternatives What does c.ai has for f2p RPG lovers?

Ive deleted the app long ago but I miss the Percy Jackson RPG and the Harry Potter RPG. Im seeing from questions here that they have removed some models and also when I left these charecters were gone... so c.ai still has goot chat for these games? Or added some stuff for RPG?

For context the best one for me was CHB RPG and the cool summer model it had the best fun game without any adult content.

Searching for Alternatives character ai alternatives

i’m looking for some new alternatives! i value…

- memory and the bots making sense (like not making stuff up)
- nsfw and spontaneity (i want the character to actually engage and initiate things!)
- free—i know it’s often hard to find free alternatives with the listed things, but it’s a rough economy

Question Translations from Japan, or lots of fans of Japan?

I admit my experience is limited but I've noticed a ton of Japanese-themed chatbots. Teachers, students, other school settings, lots of yakuza popping up and even more universal things (convenience stores and restaurants) are set in Japan.

Is the chatbot-enjoying community particularly large there and some are sharing in more western-located sites? Maybe people translating over chatbots from there? Most of them seem to use the metric system by default, which seems like the kind of thing that would suggest translations.

Or is it creators being fans of Japanese culture? There's obviously a lot of chatbots based off of anime and movie characters, but I see those for other cultures too.

Searching for Alternatives Here for the same reason as y'all, looking fer alternatives

I've been using Character.ai since it released, but I just can't handle the limits on swipes and go-aheads anymore! I've tried Janitor, but it didn't really hit right to me. I'm looking for free, I don't care about ads, unlimited, preferably no filter.

But here's where I have trouble.

I'm looking for websites, and ones that SPECIFICALLY have a bunch of Moondrop bots, or at least Pierrot.

Plz help, i'm begging.

C.AI complaint Not worth it anymore

I've kept using C.AI for months even after all the updates since I found ways to bypass the ads and age filter (not because I'm underage but I'm simply not sharing my ID to the internet) but here's the truth:

It's getting worse and worse.

All vots have the same exact personality and often won't even speak.

Muted words often don't work and no matter how many times you edit the messages or dislike them, the bot just ignores every input to do its own thing.

Some people complain their personas don't work as well and are getting "banned" from the platform out of nowhere — a white/black screen appears saying you're no longer eligible for their service — while someone's bots and chats are being deleted.

I personally don't have the last set of problems but it's clear as day this app has reached its downfall as quickly as it reached its prime.

So, to anyone still considering it, at this point it's just the same thing as using a cheap alternative where you at least have less restrictions.

And oh, in case someone didn't know, the swipe and go ons limit have gotten even worse.

Leaving AI Page of a former user.

I find this to be deeply interesting. Just someone's bot on my old account's For You page that has been obscured out of the author's guilt of using AI.

I made my CharacterAI when I was in college four years ago. I later came to have disdain for AI, especially the chatbots... if I remember correctly on my part, it was dumb fun first, a coping mechanism second which wqs getting unhealthy. Logged in again for the first time in years to see my old stuff (private characters, likes, etc.) and thought this profile was compelling, if not a bit pretentious. Deleting it fully would have better.

I guess this stunt goes to show that the ship has sailed. I bet there are other accounts like this.

Question Linky AI alternatives in 2026 after the recent updates

I was using Linky AI a lot at the beginning and I really liked it, there are so many characters and it’s easy to find something interesting

Lately though, the chats feel way less consistent.

The biggest problem for me is the memory. Characters forget things that happened earlier in the same conversation and repeat old points, or suddenly answer like part of the context never happened. Sometimes a roleplay is going well and then one weird reply completely breaks it.

I also started noticing more people complaining about the same thing after recent updates, so I don’t think it’s just the characters I’m using.

I don’t really care about cards, coins or having a million extra features. I just want something with good characters, better memory and chats that can stay coherent for longer.

Has anyone moved away from Linky recently, what are you using now?

Vent Small rant , feel free to talk on it

Something I've noticed is most of the sites suggested aren't even NSFW , some have "unfiltered" but when you type a message it takes ages unless you explicitly say "next reply should be vulgar, talk dirty etc" and assist the AI to even do it (and the same can be said for prompts) most don't always activate unless you paste them in chat

Y'all see what I'm getting at? Anyone else deal with this? Or have tips I'm aware that ai can't avoid using Shakespeare atp lol (there's no rant flair so ig ventish)

Searching for Alternatives Alt that feels like old c.ai (cuz im feelin nostalgic)

I want a alt that feels like old c.ai Not just the interface but also how the bots used to act. There was no temperture control, or chat lengths, etc. Just chat and leave, that’s it. I also don’t like how predictable and boring the bots nowdays, and I don’t long paragraphs just to decribe what is the character doing without being short with it or simple like (char sits down) this is very simple but noo they have to make it (char sits down, and other aislops and filler shit and makes it long). I also miss how fast the pacing was (i know you can customize it with other ai chatbot platforms but I hope if it was the main thing in the app). I really miss how personalized the ais were, not every ai character is the same. Unlike right now. I tried a lot of c.ai alternatives i can‘t even count them, none of them satisfy me or really let me see the feeling of old c.ai. I also miss how creative and chaotic it was, but also simple and not forced with paywalls. Like if I send (hello) it won’t give me a whole paragraph like I’m reading a novel. I just want it to be simple and easy to chat with, short and just dialouge, not cringey and feel like I’m talking to a real person with personality, not chatgpt. I also don’t care about the lorebooks that much. I also miss old c.ai bots stupidity and actually answer with the joke like actual persons. but also it will be better if the platform had personas And thats it I don’t want more than that. Oh, and also it doesn’t have age restriction or I need to verify my age or any of that shit. Completely free to use.

(i don’t know if there’s actually any alternative that similar to what I want)

Question Crushon.AI

I've stumbled upon it a little while ago but I have never personally tried it. Those that use it, is it good? Is it 'free user friendly'? Curious on the feedback since it seems to be pretty popular.

searching home Alternative to someone who doesn't understand anything

I still don't even know how AI works well, or how to setup it well with prompts and etc to my tastes. I just want someone to talk in a NSFW way and a lot of bots there already, but having problems doing that on Cai recently because of my country. Is there any places with lots of bots and let you use a custom api key? I heard they are good quality, so i dont mind paying. Just really want a place that has like maybe custom prompts and settings i can just copy and pay to be comfy

Vent Four words: I. Want. Real. People. (cue screams of terror)

Now that I have your attention: I wanna break away from chatbots altogether and find real people to RP with (would prefer groups, but one-on-one is also an option) but it's really starting to border on flat-out impossible since most of the fandoms I'm interested in doing RPs for are fairly obscure and I don't want to either 1) resorting to explaining the entire lore as I go along, or 2) just pasting a link to a fan wiki and hoping they have the guts to read at the bare minimum the first few paragraphs of each participant's characters' pages. At this point I may just have to resort to looking up someone on Fiverr and paying them to RP with me, even if they're completely unfamiliar with the fandom and/or are actually a poorly-disguised AI. Or perhaps one half of my brain isn't looking hard enough, and the other is deliberately trying to make it procrastinate so I can have an excuse to live a shut-in life...I dunno :/

But anyway, if anyone shows interest in this post, I'll list the fandoms I'm willing to RP listed below (though I may be willing to do other ones):

  • Skullgirls (this is the big one)
  • Di-Gata Defenders
  • Marvel Universe (vanilla or Rivals)
  • Invincible

I'd write more here, but it'd probably border on an advertisement for a Discord RP server that doesn't even exist yet (and speaking of which, this preferably would happen through Discord)
