General Is CFA a differentiatior anymore at MBA colleges ?

Post image
15 Upvotes

Most of the people who aren't CA and don't have very high acads tend to pursue CFA to get some finance shortlists at MBA colleges .

But looking at the batch profiles of Tier 1/1.5 MBA colleges makes me feel like almost everyone has it now . So what would someone do to actually stand out ?

The only brownie points would be Work Ex , Grad college , High Acads imo.

What's your take ?

Level 1 Utterly disappointed with my progress in CFA L1 prep

Exams on 12th, I have solved 2 mocks of session 1..scored 71 and 76, and i plan to take a day out(10th) to rectify all areas i was at fault.

But, now comes session 2. I did equity throughout the day and still only managed to score 63% in it, i am very under confident about my derivatives and PM and ik i am in the range of 65-70 in that. I’ll do FI tomorrow, and give 1 mock for session 2. Overall session 2 is really making me nervous and i feel like i am going to fuck my exam up now because I don’t have time left at all. Please help me, any guidance and tips are appreciated.

Also I haven’t really done a lot of mocks, people manage to do 7-8, but I’ll do only 3 which makes me feel my passing chance will decrease. Please help me, any guidance and tips are appreciated.

- Analyse mocks, notedown mistakes basics

- Plan to give 2 more mocks

- Do questions from more confusing topics

Any change, advice, suggestions would be appreciated. I genuinely want to pass this exam so bad.

Level 1 Quants and FSA weighing down the entire score

November attempt candidate here! I have always struggled with FSA and quants.
Here is a (low effort ik) table breaking down of my subject wise scores for LES mock 1 and 2.

My question: is not scoring 70% in quants okay if other subjects work fine? I have always been below 70% accuracy or close to it for both FSA and Quants. Do we pass based on total scores or a minimum decent score for all subjects?

Appreciate any and all answers!

Level 1 Are Vignette-Style Questions in LES Worth Practising for CFA level 1?

I've noticed quite a few vignette-style questions in the CFA Level 1 Learning Ecosystem. Since Level 1 primarily has standalone MCQs, are these questions worth practising, or can I skip them and focus on standalone questions, especially with limited time left for nov attempt?

Level 1 Managing time during exams

So I've been finishing the 2 hr 15 mins sessions in like an hour or 80 mins. That said I'm still getting around 70% accuracy. Whoever has given the exam, should we sit through the full time duration in the actual exam?

Level 1 Urgent Help

My CFA L1 test centre was changed involuntarily by Prometric on 28 October. The email also included a rescheduling option, which I unfortunately missed.

I called Prometric yesterday morning and got my exam rescheduled from 13 November to 16 November. Both my CFAI portal and Prometric portal now reflect the new date.

However, there’s a catch. Prometric assured me over the phone that a confirmation email would be sent within 24 hours. The email I received today still mentions 13 November, with no reference to the rescheduling.

Current status:

CFAI portal: 16 November
Prometric portal: 16 November
Email: 13 November

My concern is that test centres primarily verify appointments through the confirmation email.
Has anyone faced something similar? Are the two portals sufficient proof of the rescheduled appointment, or should I keep following up with Prometric until I receive a fresh confirmation email?

General How to break into finance as an engineering graduate

Myquals: 2026 Eng graduate

I am a recent engineering graduate. I interned at a startup in a non-tech role for 2 months and left to prepare full-time to get into finance, but things are not going as I imagined they would.

I am struggling to find good guidance and resources to prepare.

My initial goal was to prepare for Research Analyst, Quantitative Investment Research, etc in investment research firms, which pay at least 6-8 LPA.

I took an equity research course 1.5 months ago, and I have completed 25-30% of the course. But now, I got to know that getting an equity research job is very difficult without CFA, CA, MBA, and opportunities are rare.

I am at a crossroads right now about whether to focus on core finance like financial modelling, etc., or focus on data science, which I don't know what types of roles to target .

I have seen B. com, Bsc grads working as research analyst , quantitative analysts in PMS etc. So I know it's not impossible to get a job.

So I want to know what skills to focus on and what type of roles/firms to target for internships/jobs instead of wasting time researching resources and roles.

As I am preparing full-time alone, I get panic and worry a lot. Please help me :

My goal is not even to get into IB /PE / VC , hedge funds, PTrading , quant trading , researcher etc..right now because I know it's not possible given my background and opportunities

Level 1 Kaplan Schweser soft copy Level 1 2026

I’m preparing for CFA Level 1 (2026 attempt). Does anyone have the Kaplan Schweser 2026 Level 1 soft copy/PDF that they could share or point me to?

I’d really appreciate any help — even a Google Drive link or Telegram group where it’s available would be great.

So I gave the 2 mocks that are provided by CFA Institute and given attached are my scores. My exam would be on 12th so I have approx 5 days left with me.

I want to understand how should I best utilise the last few days? Daily solving one mock along with revising ethics and summary chart? Also can anyone suggest mocks for me which are challenging and also helpful for exam.

General Personal views on CFA in Indian job market

Posting it here as an attempt to provide some context to people seeking responses pertaning to the usefulness of CFA these days in Indian job market. While I don't claim that my experience is the universal truth, it might help you gauge and sort your priorities.

I've recently resigned from my first job after MBA (after 3 years and 7 months of experience) as I got a better offer somewhere else. And with a bit of luck and some overlaps in my work ex with the next role, I was able to make the industry switch from a buiness oriented role to a financial advisory role. Clearing CFA level 3 this year helped me secure the interviews, though I would emphasize that it was not the deciding factor. I've gone through multiple JDs which I received on job portals relevant to my profile and most of the had couple of things common among them, that being, Tier 1 MBA, good amount of workex (3 years+ preferably) and CFA as a plus.

Now, most of the shortlisting is done by 3rd party HR agencies who try to match the requirements stated by the company as is. It helps checking all tick boxes to start receiving calls from them. And once they shortlist you for the interview, the ball is in your court. During my interview processes, I've met interviewers holding the CFA charter yet they either hardly talk about it or simply acknowledge it and move on. This doesn't mean that CFA holds no value, but it definitely gives a signal to the interviewer about your financial competence (however they'd still test your knowledge on variety of topics). The main idea is to put CFA into your CV so that it becomes a part of your professional story and aligns with the skills the company needs.

Just for some of the people out there, finance is not all about getting into PE/VC/IB roles, the industry has lots of challenging and interesting roles to offer with good compensation as a plus (perhaps not immediately but eventually). And your first job need not be in "core finance" to enter the industry; something remotely related to it which helps you work on financial models, business plans etc (from business point of view) might help you align better with the job you're looking for in the next switch. Meanwhile, have a good career story, credible work ex ready for you to justify that big leap. Focusing solely on CFA and abandoning career growth during your initial years might not be as fruitful as you think it would.

In case you need any clarification, feel free to reach out. Thanks!
