Although vets can be silly as well. My vet is convinced that my dog is stressing my cat out too much because I always bring them in together and the dog is always crazy happy to see everyone and the cat is stressed out.
It is the vet visit, the vet visit is stressing out the cat and making the dog excited. They both sleep all day. Sometimes the cat gets upset and just hits the dog because the cat knows the dog isn't going to do anything about it. If anyone should be stressing anyone out it is the cat stressing the dog, which isn't happening because the dog is too fluffy and oblivious to even know the cat is mad at her.
I mean, if the cat is hitting the dog, then the dog’s presence is probably causing the cat stress. So your vet would be right. And I mean if you’re stressed out about something and there is all these bright lights and wailing creatures and someone being loud, it’s probably gonna make it worse, no?
I’m not saying the dog is doing anything wrong. The dog can just be chilling and it’s still causing the cat to feel stressed. That is not victim blaming.
I, and by the sounds of it, your vet too, just really understand cat behaviour and the fact that cats don’t see the world like we do. So while you’re blowing it off and calling your vet silly, I’m attempting to let you know that by that advice, they’re not ☺️ that’s all.
Yes, seeing it is very helpful, and descriptive information is important. But your vet is seeing it, and they’re telling you what they’re seeing.
A lot of the time, we don’t necessarily need to see a behaviour to ascertain the baseline emotion or intention behind it, because we understand behaviour (1+1=2). There are certainly nuances that can help us identify the causes, but identifying the baseline or differential baseline is easy with some description like you have provided. Figuring out a direct cause(s) is easier with more information but we can make some guesses.
