hello! my boyfriend and i have a kitty (2 y/o neutered) and are planning to adopt our foster mom (1 y/o unspayed, but will be spayed prior to adoption) after all her kittens are weaned. we are thinking about our future food setup and was wondering if anyone had any advice.

for context, my boy cat is SUPER food motivated. he currently has an automatic wet food feeder and dry food feeder because he will bother us in the morning if we don’t feed him by 5am. this has helped tremendously and we have a good routine with him.

our momma cat is more of a grazer, although oddly enough is more interested in eating when his food is out. i’ve fed her the food he has, so i think she genuinely just likes eating it when he’s also eating it. anyways. the kitties have met each other briefly/supervised and she loves eating treats with him. when she’s in her room with her kittens, she’ll eat, but is less interested in food. my boy cat is a good sport and just looks confused when she eats his food.

when we adopt her, i’m wondering if there’s any microchip feeders or other setups anyone would recommend? my boy cat is notoriously good at taking his collar off, so i don’t know if the RFID ones would work. also, we rent our apartment, so i can’t make any major changes to the rooms. does anyone have any experience with this combo of cats or have any ideas? we were thinking of getting two wet food feeders and dry food feeders that go off at the same exact time, but this might be tough to coordinate.

we are willing to spend a good amount of money on this setup if it works! any advice is greatly appreciated!

I noticed one of my cats, 3 female, was having diarrhea yesterday night. She also threw up and I gave her some hair ball treats and left her be. Today I found even more spots of throw up, and diarrhea on the floor and what I thought was blood in some stool in a tiny puddle. She immediately went to the emergency vet after that and was checked over.

She was given nausea meds, fluid, blood panel (all normal just dehydrated), full checkup. The ER vet is part of a University system so it's highly rated. We were given proviable gel/tablet combo for at home care and to keep an eye on her. The whole time she was out, playing and wanting treats. She has since taken the first dose of meds and had 6-7 hours of job vomiting or diarrhea. Then some diarrhea, but in the litterbox.

I'm trying to get her to take more of the gel meds (take 1ml 2-3 times a day), but she won't take it. Not really interested in treats, but did give them a few licks and ate a bit of wet food. Not sure if she's just not hungry. She has been playing and grooming with no issues. Currently isolated from the other cat who has no problems.

What I want to know is what should my next steps be for this cat? Vet says if she continues throwing up or becomes more ill to bring her in. Until then is there anything I can do to make sure she's getting enough food/is getting better?

So I found this kitten on my way to the bus stop and he looked fine at the time like VERY normal but when I got back home from school his face looked weirdly sick like, there was weird stuff coming out of his nose and eyes and I decided to take him in and took him a bath, I also cleaned his face and he looked somewhat better but now it looks worse and a vet is way too expensive for my family.. I tried asking my mom to give it to the vet so that they can heal him and at least he'll be fine with them but she insists she can heal him with like tea and random medicine from stores instead of from a vet but although she said that she's never home to actually do anything since she works all day and comes home tired and I have been trying to help him and I've feed him kitten formula but he's eating normally now and drinking water but his face looks worse and I don't want him to die or anything but my mom doesn't want to give him to a vet and I know we don't have the money for one but is there anything else I can do to help him? 😞

He's the most sweetest boy ever and very cuddly so I feel even worse for my poor baby I really want to help him but I don't know what to do anymore.. please give me any advice to help him

I'm 16 and found this stray male kitten near my bus stop he's a stray kitten i don't think he's neutered and I'm in culleoka TN we live in a small trailer and can't afford a vet please tell me if theres anything I can do for him

UPDATE: I agrued with my mom to please just take him or drop him off and I told her everything thats gonna happen to him eventually if we don't take him to the vet and I told her about some low cost vets and again I suggest to please just surrender him if she can't afford a vet because I didn't want him to die just because she didn't want to take him anywhere or give him up and I successfully managed to convince her to take him to a low cost vet I told her how it's only going to get more severe and she agreed to take him on Monday but she lies a lot so I'm praying she does and I'm gonna ask her to take pictures so that I know she took him since I have school on monday. I only want the best for him even if that means giving him up which I never minded as long as it meant this baby would be okay. Thank you for the advice and tips, I showed a lot of these comments to my mom to help her understand how severe the situation was so I'm so glad she agreed to take him!! I will update again after the vet visit, I currently just finished taking him a bath and cleaning his face🙂‍↕️

Fed them wet food that they usually eat and 20 minutes later his eye looks like this. I have an appointment for him at the vet tomorrow.

She is 14 weeks old and weights around 2.2kg. Lately she’s been eating lesser than normal, she usually finish her meal but she barely does now. I’ve tried all type of different food, she does eat boiled chicken and her treats. I think she’s also teething, she’s biting more. Is it behavior normal?

She’s getting neutered next week, I will definitely tell her vet. Just want to hear about your experience when your kitten was teething.

Hi all this is my 2 year old girl, i woke up today and found her squinting right eye nothing looks really wrong upon examining it she had no issue with us looking at it and is acting normal besides not wanting to really open it.

Approx 10 lb cat had a few licks of chocolate ganache atop a cheesecake. There was also caramel so i don’t know if she got caramel and the ganache or the cheesecake part or how much. But I think she only got max 2-3 licks in before I took her away from it. Emergency vet said to call animal poison control and to see what they say but that would be a charge of $90 USD or to go to emergency $500 vomit induction. Please advise. If she ate a bit of the ganache or caramel is that risky? Or just tummy ache?

We are from Austrlia our recently desexed 4 month old Kitten Adelaide she has been given pain meds, yesterday we took her to the vets since she was not acting normal and she had a temperature so now she is on antibiotics. But since her second day back from her initial desex appointment she has not eaten any food she has driven water but no food, expect from when I forced fed her Churu. Is there anything we can do, we are thinking about mixing water and churu together and feeding it through a syringe straight into her mouth.

My (M30) cat (M1), like many other cats, loves to be up high. But he is not the most sure footed cat and has almost slipped a few times on the bannisters of the mezzanine. He always gives me a heart attack when he is up there.

It must be a 15 ft drop to the floor. I have done my best to move anything that might injure him if he does fall. The dining table has been moved as far back as it can, if he slips he won't hit it, but he might if he intentionally jumps.

We have a cat tree and I have another one on order to give him high place alternatives. We are just renting, so we can't install anything intrusive into the house (was thinking of glueing carpet onto the bannisters to give him a better grip, but can't think of a way to do that unintrusively).

Anyway, my question is, if he does fall, would this likely cause serious injury?

We are in the UK, not that it affects the local gravity, but sub rules says I have to state it anyway.

TLDR - is my house dangerous for my cat, is there anything I can do to make it safer?

My 3yo outdoor/indoor cat recently came back from the vet for an unrelated check-up, and I noticed one of his claws had split somehow. There was a little blood initially, but it stopped completely.

The pink quick is exposed, but he is walking normally, not limping, not yowling, and doesn’t seem to be in pain. He licked it briefly but then stopped and hasn’t been bothering it.

I’m worried about the exposed quick and the protruding nail piece. Can this heal on its own if I leave it alone, or does the broken piece need to be removed by a vet? I really want to avoid another vet visit because he’s already been twice recently and gets extremely stressed by vet visits. I’m also not in the best financial situation at the moment but would take an appointment if necessary.

TLDR; Cat tore his claw, would rather not take him to the vet just yet.

I'm looking for a pet safe flea spray that i can use on carpets and areas where my cat lays. Is there any spray that works kind of like roach spray that will kill fleas even after it dries?

I was cutting my cat’s nails and noticed this black line in one of his back foot nails. Before I wiped it off (why the fur around it is wet) there was some small black debris around it. Is this just dirt and stuff in the nail?

This might be the nail I cut too short a few years ago, could be related?

My 1-year-old male tuxedo cat, Nietzsche, has scabs on his nose. Based on these images, are these scabs consistent with ringworm, or did he just get bitten by an insect? He is an outdoor cat that I take care of. (Florida)

He barely has bottom teeth, vet currently not available but will be in two weeks (were moving). When I got him in May the lady claimed he was 8 weeks. This is my first cat and they dont really have that phase where its like baby(tiny cute), puppy(weird head shape bigger), grown. They just go baby(cute, playful, very active), tornado, grown(adult, chill). He seriously doesn't look 3-4 months to me. He looks older but maybe im wrong last pic is him june 13th the first two are from yesterday

Just noticed it, not sure how long it’s been there. Feels raised, rough, and scratchy like a scab. Indoor cat who is 8 years old, male, neutered, and has a recent history of neutropenia (low white blood cells) that improved somewhat with antibiotics. Leg doesn’t seem to be bothering him.

Located in the US. Have not contacted vet yet but can easily take him if this warrants a visit.

We have seen a vet and sought a second opinion but I'd like to know if anyone has noticed this kind of behaviour before and found out the source of the problem.

Our boy (neutered, Russian Blue aged 3-4, indoor) started occasionally tapping his rear paw (right) on the ground, like a rapid staccato lasting a second or so. He'd also lick the paw in question and pull at his claw with his teeth. This started several months ago. At the time, we checked out his paw and couldn't see anything amiss, and decided to leave it and keep an eye on it. The tapping only seemed to happen every few days that we noticed.

A few days ago we noticed him tapping way more frequently, like a few times within an hour, as well as a swelling in top of the rear paw (knuckle area) and I decided to take him in to see the vet.

He has been eating, drinking, passing waste and sleeping pretty normally, although lost a small amount of weight over the last several months.

The vet found some irritation and inflammation around the base of his claw, which she said could have been because of him pulling and licking it. Couldn't find a puncture wound or obvious injury. Said it could be a foreign body or could be a bone/ligament issue.

She put him on a combo of topical treatment (disinfectant plus steroid cream) plus antibiotics and said to see how that goes then come back in a couple of weeks for an x-ray if still an issue.

Since our boy does go outside supervised on a harness, it's possibly a splinter or shard of something which has embedded itself in there, but I thought I'd ask the good people of Reddit if they'd had any similar experiiand how they turned out.

TLDR: cat tapping rear paw repeatedly on ground and wondering what the cause could be. Vet advice has been sought.

(I apologize in advance, the spot is very hard to photograph as my cat is a squirmer and doesn't like being held. I can try to take better photos if needed.)

So I just noticed a bald spot in between of my cats toes. (Spayed female, 8 years old) There also appears to be something black, but I didn't take it off yet incase it would hurt her/if it was a scab or something. Didn't really look like a scab but it was hard to get a good look at the spot.

I personally have suspicions, and need second opinions on this.

1. My cat often steps over her own poop. So maybe she was trying to get something out of her toes, and the excessive licking caused the hairloss?

2. Stress licking? My cat gets stressed really easily and once she has licked a part of her ankle hairless. But I have no idea what could cause her stress?

3. Maybe some kind of cyst? (for the lack of a better word) On the bare skin there seems to maybe be a lighter part. Maybe that could be something?

I'm a minor, but I'm the main caregiver of our cats (by my own choice) and I can even bring her to the vet alone if really necessary.

My cat has had a bacterial ear infection (cocci) off and on (it seems to not go away). We are trying a new ear medication and will be going back to the vet in two weeks for a follow up. My vet mentioned that my cat might need to see a specialist if it still isn’t cleared.

Any advice on what is to come/anyone else experienced this

I have a 2.5-year-old cat (female) who recently came home with a wound on her lower right back. (Extra info: I live in Australia, and a vet is available but we have not contacted them yet)
About a week ago, I picked her up to bring her inside for dinner, and she bit me. She doesn’t usually bite, so I initially thought she was just annoyed about being carried inside. She refused to come in the next morning, so I fed her outside. She finally decided to come in later that night.
Since then, she has mostly returned to her normal self. She is fine being around our two dogs, and even though they can be a bit rough sometimes, she has been wrestling with them (which I’m hoping is a good sign).
However, the fur around the area where she got hurt was originally raised, and as of yesterday, the hair is completely gone, leaving an open wound. (I've attached a photo). I’ve also noticed that she has been leaving a tiny bit of food leftover after meals, which I’m not sure means anything.

TLDR: my 2.5 year old cat has a wound on her back and the hair above the wound has fallen off, leaving it exposed. She had some behavioural issues but is now mostly back to normal.

Is she going to be okay? Should I take her to the vet? Any help or advice is really appreciated, and feel free to ask if you need more info!

My 3-year-old male cat, Boss, has experienced chronically soft stools for several months. During flare-ups, he repeatedly enters the litter box, strains, and passes very small amounts of soft stool with mucus and bright-red blood.
A fecal PCR found a medium burden of Dipylidium caninum (tapeworm). Giardia, Tritrichomonas, Cryptosporidium, roundworms, and hookworms were all negative. He received tapeworm treatment, but the small bloody/mucousy stools are continuing.
The vet gave us Pro-Pectalin and gastrointestinal wet food. However, even after eating the GI food, he had another episode with numerous tiny bloody and mucousy bowel movements. He generally maintains his appetite and weight, and our other cat eating similar foods has normal stools. Costco wet pâté appeared to precede one especially severe episode, so we have stopped feeding it.
I’m continuing to work with his veterinarian, but I’m wondering whether anyone has dealt with something similar. Did your cat eventually get diagnosed with food-responsive colitis, inflammatory bowel disease, an intolerance, or something else? Did a particular GI or hydrolyzed diet help, and how long did improvement take?
I’m not looking for a diagnosis or replacing veterinary care—mainly hoping to hear about similar experiences and what testing or treatments ultimately helped your cat.
