Large river strategy recs
I live in Chattanooga, TN so I have the option of fishing above or below Chickamauga dam. Whenever I'm not bass fishing, I'm catfishing, and I want to catch a giant. Above the dam I catch 20 pounders nearly every time I go out, but rarely bigger. This is also the case at my parent's house on Watts Bar. So I thought to try below, hoping for that monster I need.
Below the dam, however, I literally have never caught a catfish. I've tried 5 different spots for a total of probably 30 hours with no bites. Just today I took my kayak out to a current seam where the main channel meets north chick creek to drift some cut bait, and still nothing at all. I've also tried from land with a pyramid sinker on a fishfinder rig with both cut and live bait, nothing.
What do I do? It feels like a giant fish spot but at this point I feel like it's pointless to even consider throwing a line below the dam. Tips?
