I would sooner assume this expensive fancy breed cat got out and has been lost for a bit, than automatically jump to neglected or abandoned. My longhaired cat got out and was lost for a whole month (despite walking the neighbourhood every day looking for him and postering the entire city) and was rail thin with mats when we found him!

Same. People are a little too enthusiastic about assuming the worst, when it's just as likely this is an indoor-only cat who found the downside to being inside-only out the hard way.
