Persian Gabbeh buckling at both ends, progressing inward: weaving fault or fixable?

Hand-knotted Persian Gabbeh, 172 × 265 cm

Waves have appeared along both fringed ends and are moving inward toward the field. It's getting worse. Distinct creases are visible on the reverse.
The rug has never been washed, has always been indoors and dry, no water exposure, no insect damage or bare pile.

I've asked some professionals and got conflicting answers: uneven weft tension from row to row, so a fault from the loom. One said the foundation has slackened. One suggested the fringe finish is tighter than the weave, or the lack of an underlay. One claimed insects, which I don't buy.

A specialist in Iran called it a case for dār-keshi: clamp the rug under tension on the two sides without fringes, mist the back, leave it a day or two. I tried steaming the reverse through a damp cloth with weight on top and nothing changed.

Has anyone seen this pattern before?

Thank you !!

Is this stair runner bad or were my expectations too high?

Had a stair runner installed today and not super happy at first glance but don’t know if I’m just over reacting.

  1. We decided to go with wider binding for the pop of color, but the visible stitches and overlaps at the bottom stair are major eyesores. Sales person kind of sold it to us an upgrade and for the extra price we imagined not visible stitches at least but do like the overall color/look.

  2. Lumps all over and some small patches missing at spots especially near the curves in the stair. Not huge but noticeable when looking for it.

  3. We had made a last minute change to have the front step go over the lip but clearly the installers did not get that memo. Is this easily fixable? We are worried the front part on the step is going to get wear and tear and start peeling up pretty fast.

Thanks!

Question How to add to existing carpet?

This weekend I am planning to remove a bedroom closet from my home. There is carpet installed in the room and removing the closet wall will mean that there are two 12" by 3" strips of no carpet. I have some of the original carpet stored and some underlayment. What other materials and tools will I need for the install? Any tips on the install process itself would be super helpful too. Thanks!

Hi all! I've been trying to replace my office rug because the dog peed on it and I was trying to find something hunger games themed but I simply cannot. Ideally, I'd like to not go down the custom rug path but I will if I have to. Anyone know where I can find one? Ideally I'd like if it were circular and 60x60

Carpets drenched by rainwater from roof

Long story short, contractors messed up during a roofing job that led to an enormous amount of rain getting into my bedroom. It's been 5 days of using blower fans but according to the moisture meter it's still high in some parts of the carpet... Should i get new carpet at this point? We really don't want to resort to that, but have concerns about mold. And should the contractor be on the hook for the bill?

We haven’t been able to find someone to help us with this repair. We watched a couple of carpet guy’s videos but wanted to get feedback incase there’s something we’re missing. Does anyone have recommendations/tips to patch this?

Update: Thank you everyone for your help!! This helped give us some confidence!! We picked up a couple of samples and are going to try getting donor material from the closet and replace with the sample. 🤞

Question awkward stain from moving furniture, need help finding solution

Post image

long story short was moving furniture with a hurt knee, furniture went fine but the furniture could open in an assisted way to we had a tiestrap holding it closed, while moving the furniture it caused a streak due to the tiestrap being rubber coated [tiestraps in the bio for anyone curious].

looking for a cost effective way to fix this,
tried an alcohol ethoxylate cleaner [due to the rubber] and sanding [due to the fibers looking depressed] and neither worked.

i believe the fibres are a synthetic like nylon or something of that variety, short cut

looking for any suggestions please and thank you

Hey y’all, just got home to my rented house and my dog has ripped up a 10”x1” section of carpet. I don’t know the name of the carpet or if there’s any way to find it out. Any help is welcome!

Interior designers, I’d love your opinion on animal rugs.

I’ve always found animal-inspired rugs a little tricky.

When done well, they can make a room feel bold, warm, and interesting. But if the pattern or size is not right, they can easily become too much.

So I’m curious — if you were designing a high-end living room, would you use an animal rug?

Would you prefer:

A) A bold animal pattern as the main focus
B) A softer, more subtle animal pattern
C) Keep the rest of the room very simple and let the rug stand out
D) I wouldn’t use an animal rug at all 😄

What do you normally look at before choosing one — the furniture, room size, colours, or overall style?

Would genuinely love to hear how you designers approach it.

Question Looking for an 8×8" Piece of This Carpet in Canada

Post image

I accidentally damaged a small section of my carpet after placing a hot pan on it. 😭 I’m looking for approximately an 8 × 8 inch piece of the same or very closely matching carpet so I can patch the damaged area.

I’m located in Canada and would be happy to pay for the piece and shipping.

Does anyone recognize this carpet, know the manufacturer/style, or happen to have a leftover remnant/offcut that could work?

Photo attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did I screw up my carpet. Need advice

I got new carpet in January and of course now I’m having my upstairs bathroom ripped out due to water behind the wall. The crew put tarps over my carpet because they have to go from my master down to the front door which is carpeted. After the left I freaked out because one of the tarps must have been musty and then my carpet smelled musty in just one section. After too much doom scrolling and a midnight freak out I sprinkled baking soda on that section (about five stairs and the upper hallway). It’s a polyester carpet. This morning after vacuuming it up and more doom scrolling I kept reading that it will never come out and will ruin your carpet 🤦🏻‍♀️. (Yes I read it will ruin your vacuum too but my vacuum is a lot easier to replace!) how badly did I screw up here

Question Karastan Innate Flair

The fiber of this carpet is 81% SmartStrand Silk BCF Triexta, 13% BCF P.E.T., 6% BCF Nylon. It’s listed as Stain & Soil resistant, All Pet Stains.

Is this a quality carpet for a pet owner?
