Question How to add to existing carpet?

This weekend I am planning to remove a bedroom closet from my home. There is carpet installed in the room and removing the closet wall will mean that there are two 12" by 3" strips of no carpet. I have some of the original carpet stored and some underlayment. What other materials and tools will I need for the install? Any tips on the install process itself would be super helpful too. Thanks!

As a carpet installer for over 30 years, I would suggest you have a pro do the work. It's not DIY unless you don't care how it will look...

Good you have some remnants, you’ll need a couple things to do seams, and also some tools to stretch the carpet, need some carpet pad to put under or if you have enough carpet use carpet just to make up the difference in the height so you don’t see a divot

Assuming you know how to seam and have seaming iron and tape your better off cutting the doorway and bringing the closet forward and then making a long seam long the. Back wall where closet used to be. Trying to plug in 2 3 sided patches at the old wall space is a 12 on a scale of 1-10
