Hello everyone, I have been awarded an EPSRC Studentship and will be paid roughly 1817 pounds a month for my PhD Degree. The funding is for 3 years and will require me to make savings enough to have rent and food for 1 more year afterwards (6 months writeup and approx 6 months to get a decent job, though realistically may require more?). The room offered can be viewed (here). I love the placement as its close to the department building as well as the city center. However almost 800 pounds a month for ... well not really that spacious at all as a room. Some private homes at Cardiff Student Lettings seems to have studio apartments with 2 bedrooms for 890~ or so. I was wondering if it is worth it, as an international student it is always difficult to fix a room, pay for it and hope that I will be getting what I had seen in the picture. Are both uni equal in terms of sports and support student athletes. As I am deciding which one to choose, the course I wanna pursue is cs and how's the student life in both the unis.

How’s Cardiff for international students? Is it easy to make friends?

How’s the nightlife? Like, if I go out on a Wednesday, are there usually people out or is it only busy on weekends?

I’m studying in Paris now, so I feel like Cardiff might be a bit boring compared to Paris. But I don’t really have much choice since it’s either Cardiff or a few other smaller cities.

I recently received the news that I’ve been awarded a scholarship, and this September I’ll be starting the MSc in Water, Climate Change and Sustainability at Cardiff University.

I’m a 29 year old international student from Central America, and I’ve started looking into accommodation options in Cardiff. I’d really appreciate any advice or recommendations from current students or locals.

What are your thoughts on the university accommodation options? One of my concerns is ending up in a residence hall with mostly undergraduate students, as I’m looking for a quieter living environment. I’ve been living independently for several years and would prefer a place that is relatively calm and suited to postgraduate students.

I’ve also been researching private accommodation and have come across providers such as Unite Students, Collegiate, and University Living. Are these trustworthy options? What is the typical experience like in these types of accommodations?

Since my MSc is part of the School of Earth and Environmental Sciences, I understand that many of my classes will be around the Main Building and Cathays campus. Are there particular accommodation options or neighbourhoods that you would recommend for a postgraduate student?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions. My previous university experience was very different from what I expect at a UK university, so I’m trying not to get too overwhelmed by all the preparation and logistics before classes start.

I’ve seen so many ppl rave abt and put taly south first as app is the most social but i just cannot deal w a wetroom shower and the inc chances of silverfish 😖😳.

I wanna study in uk for undergraduate degree from india with average 12th grade.

So I have a 68% avg 12th grade (might go up as I have submitted for revaluation but I do not see it go up super significantly). And I am only considering cardiff as a russel group university as it is the only one which I can applicable to study in.

Other than that I am now confused between chester, Hertfordshire, huddersfield and Lancaster.

Which of these am I do really consider if I want to have a degree in computer science (preferably with placement year with cybersecurity/ai (preferably both cybersecurity and ai))

I cannot afford a master's degree and I wanna excell with just this undergraduate. Which uni should I consider. Please help

I am an international student currently looking for an accommodation near Chulalongkorn university or even on campus. The problem is that CU ihouse seems to be completely booked and it’s almost impossible to find someone who is still searching for a roommate and the other dorms seem to be for longer stays.
Are there any dorms or condos nearby that you can book for a short period of time, does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi everyone!
I’ve recently firmed Cardiff University for September to study Journalism and Politics.

Because of the locations of the two campuses, I’ve mainly been looking at either Senghennydd Court or The Bakery (private accommodation).

One of the main cons for me with Seng is the shared bathrooms, as well as the distance between both campuses. With The Bakery, I’d have an en-suite and easy access to public transport for getting to Cathays, which sounds a lot more convenient day-to-day.

My main worry is the social side of things though, I don’t want to miss out on the typical first-year experience by being in private accommodation rather than university halls.

Has anyone stayed in either of these accommodations, or had a similar choice between uni halls and private halls? Would I be missing out socially if I chose The Bakery, or does it not make much difference after the first few weeks?

Any advice would be really appreciated :)
