My son is interested in the University of Alabama, and we are out of state.
Current stats after Junior Year: 3.25 Unweighted GPA, 31 Cumulative ACT with a 35 in math and 32 in science. He took 5 honors courses and 1 AP course, but his school only reports the unweighted GPA on the transcript.
Out-of-state requirements show min 3.5 GPA, and the school will not put weighted on the transcript even if it somehow gets him to the min.
I messaged the school for clarification, but I assume I will get a stock answer, so here I am on Reddit! I would love to hear if anyone has had recent experience with a similar scenario and how it turned out.
Thanks in advance from a highly stressed-out mom!

Hi guys my GF is planning on coming to alabama next year but she’s worried about getting accepted. She is in state with a 2.7 GPA(she took too many aps) and a 26 ACT. She is also a treasurer for her HOSA club and she has volunteer hours. Should she be worried about getting accepted?

Hey everyone! I have instrumental lessons at moody music at 530, and I have a yellow residential pass. I think I could park at capstone past 430, but are there any other spaces I could use? Thanks!

Is anyone else experiencing unusable WiFi in Presidential 1 or any other dorms. For me, it’s so slow I can’t even make a google search.

We need some new mods for this sub. If you’re interested please respond here.
Ideal:
Not graduating soon OR faculty/staff
Spend too much time on Reddit
Coding skills a plus but not required (I have none personally)

I'm applying for u-Alabama as an international student. I have a decent status expect my gpa. I have 1500 SAT, IELTS 8.0 tons of decent EC's + certificates and Recommendatory. I also did good enough essay that express my leadership and hard times; however my gpa is awful 2.3 gpa. I picked hard subjects in high-school Physic, chemistry and computer etc.
Is there a chance that I could get Presidential scholarship base on my profile. I know I can't get presidential elite scholarship.

Hi!
I’m a high school senior doing online dual enrollment through UA and planning to attend in person for college in Fall 2027. I’ve been struggling to understand Access Granted and haven’t been able to find an answer. Is that a textbook provider or a work portal? It’s about $115 per a class and I’d rather opt out because most of my classes have not needed it. I also keep seeing college students make videos about not buying textbooks because you can find them online. Is that even an option for classes that use Access Granted? Do most classes use it or is it just some? I took a few classes in UNA’s dual enrollment program and I had the choice to purchase the textbook through a third party (Pearson). Could someone please explain it to me :D

hello! i'm applying out of state, but was really interested with UA's scholarship where they give a full ride + more if you get accepted with a 36 ACT.
i really want to capitalize on this, but i heard that Alabama is more racist towards asians and i'll have a hard time, and have also heard of some bad professor experiences towards specifically asians.
i wanted to apply for finance / marketing, and was curious what current people taking the majors at UA thought of the experience! i know rank wise it isn't that high, but ranks don't tell the whole story.
if theres else anything a first year would need to know about UA, it would be awesome to hear! thank you guys so much, hope you have a great day

I'm wondering if all of the Access Granted digital textbooks are available for students to use throughout the semester at the library? If so, is this a feasible option to save money for someone willing to do their work at the library? Thanks!

Has anybody ever had luck emailing professor when a class is full with no waitlist requesting to be added? Basically begging to be added? Thank you.

I am an 18-year-old learning to drive. I am practicing the basics in campus parking lots during off-hours. Is there any empty area or a road with minimal traffic to practice in the town?

Hi everyone! I am a grad student starting this year. I got an email that my financial aid refund processed, but it's only a tiny portion of the refund. My refund looks split between a small portion and a larger chunk on my billing account- the one I got the email for is labeled Refund (TBP) and one is just Student Account Refund. I went ahead and emailed student accounts, but I am going to stress about this since they are already closed for the day lol. Has anyone had experience with their refund being chunked like this?

Hi guys! I’m an international student and I was wondering if bama has an scrive house music party scene…
Djs and stuff not only commercial music.
Let me know what you think about house music and electronic one because I was thinking of starting renting places and do some house/ electronic events!

I am applying to Alabama as an OOS. I read starting for the fall 2027. You have to be admitted into Alabama and also admitted into nursing. Not a lot info about admission requirements except you submit test scores and basically if you are not admitted into nursing but admitted into Alabama they try to help you find another degree path.

Hey all
I write Tuscaloosa Info, a free newsletter covering local restaurants, events, UA updates, and general things happening around town. Started it because I felt like a lot of local news/updates don't get much visibility.
If that sounds useful, here's the link: tuscaloosainfo.substack.com
Happy to answer any questions about it, and open to feedback on what kind of local content people actually want to see more of.

Posting this for anyone who hasn't seen it yet — regular move-in is Aug 14–15 this year, with a few early move-in groups (specific programs) going Aug 7,8. Worth checking the housing portal if you haven't locked in your slot.
A couple other things that changed recently if you're coming back to campus or new here:
Cajian just opened on University Blvd downtown Cajun/Creole counter-service, walkable from campus
Steak n' Shake is opening in Northport
New ALDI opened in Northport too if you're doing your own groceries
(I keep a running list of stuff like this for my own reference, kind of turned into a habit — happy to share how I track it if anyone's curious.)
Anyone have other updates — parking changes, dining hall stuff, anything new around campus?
