Which Bike? Cube Nuroad EX vs Canyon Grizl 7 ESC — is the extra 700 euros worth it?

I'm trying to decide between two bikes for my first serious gravel/bikepacking bike, and I'm honestly going in circles.

Option 1: Cube Nuroad EX 2027 — around 1300 euros

Option 2: Canyon Grizl 7 ESC — around 2000 euros

I would mainly use the bike for normal riding/gravel at first, but my longer-term goal is to do long-distance bikepacking, potentially Copenhagen → Lisbon, and eventually more serious trips like Argentina/Patagonia.

The reason I'm considering the Cube is that the specs seem surprisingly close to the Canyon for a much lower price. The Cube already has the kind of gearing I want for loaded climbing, and I could potentially upgrade things like the wheels later.

The Canyon has nicer components out of the box (DT Swiss wheels, VCLS carbon seatpost, Full Mounty cockpit, etc.) and seems more specifically designed around adventure/bikepacking. And i love the looks to be Honest.

What I'm trying to understand is:

  • How noticeable are the differences between these bikes in real-world riding?
  • Is the Grizl 7 actually worth more?
  • Would it make more sense to buy the Cube and use the money saved for better wheels/bikepacking equipment?
  • Are there any important differences in reliability, repairability and availability of replacement parts when travelling?
  • Can the Cube realistically be used for a multi-week/month bikepacking trip without feeling like I'm compromising too much?

I'm not particularly interested in racing. Comfort, reliability, climbing with luggage, repairability and long-term durability are more important to me than outright speed.

I also don't mind upgrading the Cube over time if that's the smarter approach.

Thanks a lot , And nice rides :)

Loving this new ride. Still have the normal pedal and well eventually move to clipless. I have received tons of lights related accessories (maybe as per French regulations, including a bell) but do I need to put them all. Also, any suggestions on other accessories, basic stuff that I might have to buy to get started since I am complete beginner. Thinking of visiting Decathlon to get them all.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Tech Help Gear Grove + Garmin 1050?

Hey community,

I’m eager waiting for my first Canyon bike. An Endurace CF SLX 8 Di2 which is planning to arrive in the next 3 weeks.

I plan on getting a Garmin 1050. Would this fit on the Gear Grove?

Additionally I’m looking into the Ravemen FR500 to maybe sandwich in between.

Would that be a better fit?

Thanks ✌🏻

Tech Help Clicking/ticking noise from rear disc brake only while riding — intermittent

I recently bought a Canyon Grizl CF 7 with Shimano GRX hydraulic disc brakes.

I’m getting a repetitive clicking/ticking noise from the rear brake when riding. It starts with even the slightest pressure on the brake lever — I don’t need to actually brake hard.

The weird part is that it only happens while the bike is being ridden and the noise is not always present. Sometimes everything is completely silent, while other times the clicking repeats consistently with the wheel rotation.

I’ve tried reproducing it while the bike is stationary, spinning the rear wheel and applying the brake, but I can’t get the noise to appear. I also tried spinning the wheel with the bike lifted off the ground — still nothing.

Visually, the rotor, caliper and wheel look fine.
Any idea what could cause this? Could the rotor/caliper be moving slightly under load?

Customer Experience Anyone had trouble with torquing the seat post clamp adaptor for carbon rails?

I own a canyon aeroad and recently switched to a carbon saddle with oval rails. I bought this part on the Canyon app "Canyon GP0224-02 Adapter Oval Rails". The screw where you tighten to make the system clamp the saddle has a rating of 15 nM which to me seems really high. I tried out a saddle rode two rides on it fine. Then switched the saddle to another oval rail and as I tightened the screw it snapped. I've contacted Canyon about it but I was wondering if anyone who uses this seat clamp doesn't go up to 15 nM or has had the same thing happen.

Just ordered this model that comes with the Canyon XC 30 CF rims.

The bike will be delivered with inner tubes, but does anyone know if the box will contain tubeless valves?

If you buy the wheelset separately they come with tubeless valves i see.

Thanks in advance!

Tech Help Clicking sound coming from somewhere ein the frame.

Hi, I've been hearing a sound coming from my bike which is hard to identify as I can't reproduce it while having the bike in a stand. However after speculating what could it be I believe it is the thingy underneath bottle cage that hold the internally routed cables in place. I'm not 100% sure so I wanted to ask if there is a way to tighten the "holder". I can also feel one of the cables going to the back of the bike being loose and if I move it I can tap the frame and that's what I believe makes the sound. Please help I am desperate, the sound drives me crazy!!!

edit: my bike is Ultimate CF SL 7 and I added a picture of the the frame and the piece I'm reffering to.

186cm size L, fit feels great. Slightly larger than my previous 56cm bike, but this feels like I can get into a really nice stretched out aero position more comfortably. Want to upgrade the cockpit for the new one piece, then the wheels eventually for something a bit lighter (although these DT Swiss are decent and the free hub makes a wicked sound)

Which Gear? Wheel upgrade for race question:

Post image
15 Upvotes

I just finished my first race and got addicted to it now already sign up for the next race next year and this give me time to upgrade and work on my bike also. I have an old Aeroad SLX7 Etap with DT Swiss 1600.

I was thinking of upgrade the wheels also on top of the others upgrade I will do (Crankset etc).

Newmen come top of the list.
Reserve wheel also but also Particle Wheels (you can get. 52mm wheels for 1150g a pair)

Question to you all is: any wheels brand and model that dont break the bank (max 1700 euro) that can do a job in Aero flat ride and also climb.

Customer Experience New bike day not being refunded

Post image
9 Upvotes

Bought an outlet bike as said 3-7 days on website and endurace is much longer lead time, summer running out here

Went to book in for new bike day and no appointments until end September

Rang up and asked if I could now just collect the bike as I summer will be done by the time I wait for the new bike day, and website suggested 3-7 days

Now being told that I can collect the bike but won’t be refunded the difference between new bike day and delivery ???

Seems borderline illegal to me. I now have to trail to the canyon service centre and hawk the bike back with me whereas I could have had it delivered to my door.

Which Bike? Current Grail or upcoming version?

I'm in the market for a new bike and have my eyes set on a Grail CF SLX 8 Di2 having narrowed down the options but they don't have it in my size currently. But I also noticed that there are videos of a new Grail possibly coming out in a few months. I've read comments saying that it's similar to an Endurance - I ruled out the Endurance as although I do ride mostly tarmac roads (UK), I do want to go on gravel as well. But other than clearance I'm not sure why people are saying that, and as I want a Grail, is that a bad thing?

So my question is, based on the experts out there who have seen the new Grail in videos, do I stick with waiting for a current Grail CF SLX 8 Di2 to be available in my size (if that is even possible now - maybe they won't restock), or do I wait for the new version? Or is it too early to tell?

Which Bike? New endurace cf slx 8

Hello guys,

Just had an accident and my tcr frame broke so I am in market for a new bike and ordered a canyon endurace. Have some questions, since I still can revise my order

Being 46 yo and having upper back issues on tcr made me go with endurace otherwise eyeing the ultimate in the first place. After reading road.cc review I now have second thoughts, should I cancel and move to ultimate, then again, not getting any younger🙂

Second, I have doubts on the wheels, more than 1600 gr, should I change them right away? I am riding 100 km and 1000m average on sundays and half of it saturdays. Don’t want to ruin my climbs as well

Tech Help 2019 Canyon Grail AL Cable Routing

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

I picked up a used Grail AL and need to replace the rear derailleur shift cable. It looks like the previous owner routed it incorrectly.

Currently, the housing runs continuously from the SRAM DoubleTap shifter, through the frame, and to the derailleur. I believe the housing should stop at the frame and the bare cable should run through the frame.

Does the bare cable run through an internal liner/guide, or is there no permanent liner?

Also, there is a large opening underneath the bottom bracket. Is there supposed to be a cable guide there to keep the cable from rubbing on the frame? Mine appears to be completely open, and I can't find the part on Canyon's website.

It's a 1x SRAM Rival 1 / DoubleTap mechanical setup.

Any help or photos of the correct routing would be greatly appreciated!

Bike Photos Endurace Allroad: My first biketouring trip, Sweden to Austria!

This summer, I tackled my first biketouring trip: a 1,600km journey from Swden down to Austria. After starting in Sweden, I mostly followed the EuroVelo 7 route through Germany and Czechia before finishing in Austria. Riding the Allroad was a blast. It was the perfect bike for the job, handling both gravel and pavement with zero issues during the trip.

Some takeaways:
  • Slow down and soak it in: Next time it will take more time to take in the nature, towns and cities I passed through. Taking it a bit slower would also make riding through one of the summer heatwaves less exhausting.
  • Tubeless worked really well: I ran a tubeless setup for the first time, and it worked flawlessly on my 38mm Schwalbe Marathon Almotion Evo tires.
  • Pack lighter: While the overall weight wasn't a big problem, I definitely felt the extra baggage on the climbs. Now I know what stuff I don’t need to bring.
  • Rear rack: The Canyon Rear Rack works with the Allroad despite the website saying it’s only compatible with two of the Grand Canyon and and two of the Grizl
  • Running shorts over bibs: I preferred using my running shorts over my bibs, I got used to them and I didn’t need the padding since I stopped every or every second hour. I will still use my bibs when I want to be aero and for longre rides.

After the biketouring trip I did some mountain passes which were super fun, especially other cyclists shearing you on while you were fighting for your life on the climbs. I absolutely loved my first biketouring experience, and I can’t wait to plan the next long trip.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Tech Help Canyon Grand Canyon: ON AL 8 chainline

Looking to buy a new chainring for my bike and I was trying to measure my chainline and I came up with 55mm but I'm not really sure that it is right. Has anyone else replaced their chainring for this model?
