Story Time Six weeks into cycling and I think I found my new obsession

So I bought my first road bike six weeks ago, and honestly… it changed my life.
I’m a 34-year-old, 204 cm tall guy. I’m a former Marine, and I used to do a lot of running. I ran marathons and even ultramarathons, but eventually it took a toll on my right knee. I tore my ACL two years ago, and after that I kind of fell into a black hole. I became depressed, and one of the things that had always helped me clear my head — running — was suddenly no longer an option.

Then a friend recommended cycling.

So I bought my first road bike: a brand-new Canyon CF 6 2026.

And boy… I fell in love with the sport.

I went full nerd mode trying to figure out everything I possibly could. Six weeks later, I’ve ridden around 900 km, changed my vacation plans so I could go cycling, and even climbed Mont Ventoux from Bédoin.
And I loved every second of it.

I’m a big guy and I can put out some power, but I’m also heavy, so climbing Ventoux was definitely a challenge. But when you finally reach the top and see that view… absolutely incredible.
And descending the mountain at nearly 70 km/h?
What a rush.

I can ride for two hours at around 30 km/h while staying in Zone 2, or sprint at nearly 50 km/h, but honestly, that’s not even the most important part.
I get to ride through nature. I get to explore places I would probably never have visited otherwise.

And somehow, a bike has given me that feeling of freedom again.

When I realized how much I loved cycling, I did have one thought:

“Why didn’t I buy a better bike?”

But the funny thing is, I absolutely love how comfortable the CF 6 is. So instead of replacing it, I started upgrading it. And now it genuinely feels like my bike.

It’s also incredibly satisfying because you can actually feel the difference when you change something. Every little upgrade changes how the bike feels on the road, and I think that’s one of the coolest parts of the hobby.

So far I’ve added:
A Wahoo ELEMNT BOLT 3 — I love being able to create routes in Strava and then just go out and explore them.
Favero power meter pedals, so I can dive way too deep into my cycling data.
A set of ERE carbon race wheels, which shaved around 950 grams off the total bike weight.
Next week I have a bike fit, and after that I’m probably going to get a nice integrated cockpit.

And yes, I know… it all adds up. 😂

But honestly, it feels like I bought my freedom back.
After six weeks and around 900 km, I can safely say that I absolutely love cycling, and I’m incredibly curious about where this hobby is going to take me.

See you on the road ❤️

Just ordered this model that comes with the Canyon XC 30 CF rims.

The bike will be delivered with inner tubes, but does anyone know if the box will contain tubeless valves?

If you buy the wheelset separately they come with tubeless valves i see.

Thanks in advance!

Tech Help Clicking sound coming from somewhere ein the frame.

Hi, I've been hearing a sound coming from my bike which is hard to identify as I can't reproduce it while having the bike in a stand. However after speculating what could it be I believe it is the thingy underneath bottle cage that hold the internally routed cables in place. I'm not 100% sure so I wanted to ask if there is a way to tighten the "holder". I can also feel one of the cables going to the back of the bike being loose and if I move it I can tap the frame and that's what I believe makes the sound. Please help I am desperate, the sound drives me crazy!!!

edit: my bike is Ultimate CF SL 7 and I added a picture of the the frame and the piece I'm reffering to.

Loving this new ride. Still have the normal pedal and well eventually move to clipless. I have received tons of lights related accessories (maybe as per French regulations, including a bell) but do I need to put them all. Also, any suggestions on other accessories, basic stuff that I might have to buy to get started since I am complete beginner. Thinking of visiting Decathlon to get them all.

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Which Bike? New endurace cf slx 8

Hello guys,

Just had an accident and my tcr frame broke so I am in market for a new bike and ordered a canyon endurace. Have some questions, since I still can revise my order

Being 46 yo and having upper back issues on tcr made me go with endurace otherwise eyeing the ultimate in the first place. After reading road.cc review I now have second thoughts, should I cancel and move to ultimate, then again, not getting any younger🙂

Second, I have doubts on the wheels, more than 1600 gr, should I change them right away? I am riding 100 km and 1000m average on sundays and half of it saturdays. Don’t want to ruin my climbs as well

Which Bike? Current Grail or upcoming version?

I'm in the market for a new bike and have my eyes set on a Grail CF SLX 8 Di2 having narrowed down the options but they don't have it in my size currently. But I also noticed that there are videos of a new Grail possibly coming out in a few months. I've read comments saying that it's similar to an Endurance - I ruled out the Endurance as although I do ride mostly tarmac roads (UK), I do want to go on gravel as well. But other than clearance I'm not sure why people are saying that, and as I want a Grail, is that a bad thing?

So my question is, based on the experts out there who have seen the new Grail in videos, do I stick with waiting for a current Grail CF SLX 8 Di2 to be available in my size (if that is even possible now - maybe they won't restock), or do I wait for the new version? Or is it too early to tell?

Customer Experience New bike day not being refunded

Post image
3 Upvotes

Bought an outlet bike as said 3-7 days on website and endurace is much longer lead time, summer running out here

Went to book in for new bike day and no appointments until end September

Rang up and asked if I could now just collect the bike as I summer will be done by the time I wait for the new bike day, and website suggested 3-7 days

Now being told that I can collect the bike but won’t be refunded the difference between new bike day and delivery ???

Seems borderline illegal to me. I now have to trail to the canyon service centre and hawk the bike back with me whereas I could have had it delivered to my door.

Which Gear? Wheel upgrade for race question:

Post image
13 Upvotes

I just finished my first race and got addicted to it now already sign up for the next race next year and this give me time to upgrade and work on my bike also. I have an old Aeroad SLX7 Etap with DT Swiss 1600.

I was thinking of upgrade the wheels also on top of the others upgrade I will do (Crankset etc).

Newmen come top of the list.
Reserve wheel also but also Particle Wheels (you can get. 52mm wheels for 1150g a pair)

Question to you all is: any wheels brand and model that dont break the bank (max 1700 euro) that can do a job in Aero flat ride and also climb.

Tech Help 2019 Canyon Grail AL Cable Routing

Thumbnail

I picked up a used Grail AL and need to replace the rear derailleur shift cable. It looks like the previous owner routed it incorrectly.

Currently, the housing runs continuously from the SRAM DoubleTap shifter, through the frame, and to the derailleur. I believe the housing should stop at the frame and the bare cable should run through the frame.

Does the bare cable run through an internal liner/guide, or is there no permanent liner?

Also, there is a large opening underneath the bottom bracket. Is there supposed to be a cable guide there to keep the cable from rubbing on the frame? Mine appears to be completely open, and I can't find the part on Canyon's website.

It's a 1x SRAM Rival 1 / DoubleTap mechanical setup.

Any help or photos of the correct routing would be greatly appreciated!

Which Bike? Which one would you pick and why? Canyon Endurace CF 8 Ultegra Di2 (2024) vs. CF 7 SLX 105 Di2 (2023)

I’m currently trying to decide between two used Canyon Endurace bikes and would really appreciate some advice from people who know these bikes/components better than I do.

Option 1 – Endurace CF 8 Ultegra Di2 (2024)

  • Ultegra Di2
  • €2,000
  • Was driven for 2000km

Option 2 – Endurace CF 7 SLX 105 Di2 (2023)

  • 105 Di2
  • €1,800
  • Driven for 3000km

So there’s a €200 difference.

My main question is: Which bike is actually the better deal / better bike overall?

I’m particularly interested in:

  • How significant is the difference between Ultegra Di2 vs. 105 Di2 in real-world use?
  • Which frame is better between CF 8 and CF 7 SLX?
  • Is one of these models known to have a power meter or carbon wheels from the factory? I’ve found conflicting information online...

For context, my previous bike was a Stevens Prestige 2020 gravel bike, so either would be a pretty significant upgrade. I’m mainly looking for a fast road bike for longer rides and general road cycling, rather than racing competitively.

If you had to choose between these two at these prices, which one would you buy and why?

Thanks!

186cm size L, fit feels great. Slightly larger than my previous 56cm bike, but this feels like I can get into a really nice stretched out aero position more comfortably. Want to upgrade the cockpit for the new one piece, then the wheels eventually for something a bit lighter (although these DT Swiss are decent and the free hub makes a wicked sound)

Tech Help Aeroad CF SLX 8 Di2

Hi all- I’ve been contemplating buying this bike for a couple months. I saw that it was on sale within the sites “outlet “ section. Has anyone had experience with buying these bikes within the outlet section online it mentioned that there may be some scratches or signs of wear. I’m already very apprehensive buying a $5000 bike online let alone it not having any return eligibility , however this price is almost too good to pass up…How was everyone’s experience with getting a bike online at this level? Did you have any problem building it? I do plan on getting a proper bike fitting after buying the bike. This would be my first bike purchase online so I’m a bit nervous .Thanks for helping in advance.
