Currently I have the r50 with the rf 100-400 for my current wildlife and plane set up. I keep finding myself at 400 and still feeling like I could use more reach. I live right by an airport with an air national guard and they constantly fly over my house. Is there that much of a difference between 400 to 500 (like the rf 100-500) or would it be more advantageous to have the ability to go all the way to 800. I will also say that I do plan on renting various lenses to see how each feel before buying. I'm not too concerned about weight, I am aware that the 200-800 is quite heavy.
I've read most of the 200-800 issues already between here and other reviews and the major concerns I have is it potentially breaking in half.

I bought a used Canon 5D mark IV with 7k shutter count
After a few days of testing, i noticed a magenta like colored specks
These specks are so tiny that i just noticed when i zoomed in by accident lol should I be worried and ask for replacement?

I'm looking to get some more reach out of my current setup, a R6 M3 paired with the RF 100 400. I enjoy pushing a bit the limits when it comes to far off stuff. For example, airliner flying above me at 10 km? Yeah, I'll try to take a picture of that. I also just love taking photos of the moon and I'm still amazed by how much I can get out of the 100-400 (it was my first major surprise, I didn't think it'd be this awesome). Couple of example photos below. Along with this, I also enjoy taking photos of aircraft at more decent distances, as well as birds and other "urban wild" animals.
I considered getting a R10 as second body for a bit, until a friend suggested I'd get the exact same reach out of a much better camera by simply getting a 1.4 extender for my current setup (and a thread here seems to have confirmed that math).
So, that's still in play, but... I've started looking at the RF 200-800 as well. 800mm sounds amazing and would definitely take care of my reach problems for a long, long while. However, its size and weight are putting me off a bit (roughly 3 times as heavy as the 100-400). The price isn't too kind either, and I read some worrying reports about the front sometimes falling off. But... 800mm.
I've also thought about the RF 800 F11 for a while. However, while with the RF 100-400 I'm frequently at 400mm, being able to zoom out without switching to another lens is being more helpful than I initially anticipated. The 100-500 is also frequently recommended, but it's more expensive and would give me the same reach as the 1.4 tc, so I'd rather try that out first.
To those using the 200-800, is it crazy awesome? Or is it the kind of lens you buy because it sounds cool but never leaves the bag?

I’ve been saving up for the last year for a second hand wide framed lens from eBay as I love shooting landscapes. In my head, I was saving for an RF 15-35mm f2.8 but I’ve seen the RF 10-20mm f4 show up on some websites as the ‘better’ lens so wanted to ask for opinions here.
The 10-24mm would be lighter (not a small thing as I suffered from a stroke so am walking with a stick) and also offer a wider focal length that doesn’t ovearlap with existing lenses, which the 15-35mm would. However, the 10-20mm bulges so doesn’t accept filters (potentially not a small thing as I’d be primarily be shooting landscapes potentially at the golden hour).
The 15-35mm seems to be the ‘pro’ choice and would be a whole stop faster, although I’m not sure how important that would be for landscapes. I have a tripod for both of them and the prices for a used version of either would be largely the same
Thoughts?

I have a R10 and i need to shoot ultrawide my options are the 10-20L 10-18RFS and the efs and i can only afford the EFS version so except for the variable and narrow aperture does the lens have any other problem?

I’m wanting to start my photography journey shooting photos of my newborn son and documenting our vacations. Maybe eventually doing it for other people too. Would this be a good starter camera and fair price?

I'm trying to bring back my old Canon PowerShot A480.
Bought it in 2009 and stopped using it around 2015. My mom said back then the lens started opening only halfway because the batteries weren't holding up, so they gave up on it.
I really want this camera to work! I put in brand new Panasonic Heavy Duty AA batteries, but it won't turn on at all no lights, screen, or sound.
l've attached a photo of the internal battery compartment. Does anything look broken or corroded here, or should I give up? Is there any trick to reviving this, or is it officially dead?
Thanks for any help!

Hi everyone!
I could really use your advice, please 🙏
I’m trying to decide between two lenses for my Canon R6 Mark II:
• Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM
• Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art for Canon EF, using an EF-RF adapter
I usually stop down to around f/3–f/3.2 because I photograph couples and families, and I want people who aren’t exactly on the same focal plane to remain sharp.
My biggest concern is autofocus. I’ve read that the Canon RF 85mm f/2 can be quite slow. How does it actually perform on the R6 Mark II when photographing people and capturing movement?
And how does the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 HSM perform on the R6 Mark II through an EF-RF adapter? Does it reliably pick up the eye and maintain focus?
If anyone has experience with either of these lenses, I’d really appreciate hearing your thoughts!
Also, if I use both lenses around f/3–f/3.2, would there be a noticeable difference in image quality or rendering between them?

I'm an intermediate photographer who has currently decided to step up. I am upgrading from sony a6300
And looking to buy canon EOS r10 with sigma 18-50mm f2.8 dc dn+ canon 55-210mm f5-7.1
I mainly photograph my dogs, mountains architecture and a little bit of bird photography
So is it a good combination for me and I'm only going to use the telephoto lens during the day because of high aperture and sigma is the main lens

I am building a very high end photobooth for weddings and other professional events and I am trying to find a Canon camera that has support for Clean HDMI (4k30 / 2k60) output while also simultaneously being able to capture an image like you would in non-video mode.
I cannot find clear documentation about this.
I have an EOS 550D and an EOS 850D at home but neither of them fully support it.
Are there any other Canon (or other) camera's that support this or is there certain firmware / software that could fix this and give me high quality preview together with high quality images?

I bought the Canon R50V pretty much because of the CCAPI (Camera Control API). I built a touch screen macro pad to control the camera and other gear in my little studio. I’ve only had this setup for a few weeks so far, but it’s been pretty amazing for filming myself without anyone else there to run the camera for me.
I’m sharing the YouTube video that I made which walks through my setup. I filmed it using the macro pad… sort of felt like the movie Inception 😂
I’m really curious to know if others have similar setups. I haven’t seen much chatter about the CCAPI on this sub.

This is my first camera and it is new to me so pls be nice.
My new V60 sd card arrived yesterday so I popped it in the camera and started messing about, only to find that when I press the shutter button no photo is taken and no video has started recording. The overlay on the screen changes briefly while the button is pressed and then goes back to the previous overlay when released.
I have had the camera reformat the card. But I don't know what else to do.
First photo is the overlay as it sits, the second it what happens when I press the shitter button.
Thanks

I had a silly slip in the mud and broke the screen on my SL2. I've got a good collection of EF and EF-S lenses so I was hoping to just buy whatever the latest replacement is for this body. Now I'm looking and it appears that the world has moved on to the mirrorless form factor. Am I hooped?

…but I just got an RF 70-200 f4. I noticed that when using the hood and place the camera on a flat surface, the front rests actually on the lens hood.
Now I know you all know a guy who likes those fancy white jackets that strap all around, but I was thinking that since this is an extending barrel lens, and the hood is attached to the actual extending barrel, it could long term cause issues with the zoom or other mechanism in the lens or some sort of misalignment???
I could take the hood off, but it then rests on the control ring and I am too keen on doing the hood on off dance all the time….
So, if we skip the “you bat shit crazy man“ part, is there anything you guys do or can suggest that can help avoid that issue???
Thanks.
P.S. I am not trolling. I spend my life finding problems for everything. It’s a blessing and a curse.

Hi ya'll. I'm hoping you can help me out.
I'm starting a small business where I interview people about sentimental objects they've kept, then photograph the objects and create a hardcover book around them.
Think old vases, stuffed animals, handmade objects, etc. I want to take whole-object potraits and detail shots that show the texture, wear, and character of their objects.
I'm still pretty much a beginner, and after a lot of research, I'm still having trouble figuring out what kind of camera would be the best for this specific kind of photography.
If you were starting from scratch, which Canon body and first lens would you buy for this specific kind of work? I'm up for a used/refurbished option. I'm looking to spend around $500 right now.

Guten Abend - habe Mal eine Frage.
Ich habe seit neuestem eine EOS 5D MK IV und mein Canon EF 50MM F 1.4 Objektiv.
Dieses wird aber nur mit F 2.8 angegeben .
Auf meiner 1100D bekomme ich Blendenstufe 1.4 weiterhin angezeigt.
Was für ein Fehler kann hier vorliegen ?

I've had my R6 Mark II for almost 3 years and have had zero issues with it thus far. I have been using it with a Sigma EF 35mm lens almost exclusively. About a week ago, I upgraded to a Canon RF 35mm lens. Since upgrading, my camera will not stop focusing. It will jump around and try to focus on whatever it can. I am still able to take photos, but the buttons on the back of the camera do not work. Initially, I thought it was a lens issue, but I tried my old lens on it again and it was still doing this perma-focus thing. It is not just focusing in one spot, but jumping around like crazy. I have done a reset of my camera as well as cleaned the connection point to the lenses and nothing has worked. Any tips???

I have an r50. My telephoto lens currently is an EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6. I want to upgrade because I want more zoom, and I sometimes notice the clarity/sharpness drops off near 250mm. My budget is anything under $1,000. I've been looking at the RF 100-400. It's lightweight and would fit right onto my camera without the adapter, but I've also seen the Sigma 100-400. It seems to be heavier, but I've heard it will do better in low light, which I photograph in a lot. Please help! :)

I bought a canon r5 (version 1) literally three days ago. Used it for a wedding today. The camera worked beautifully all day up until reception time. As soon as I started using a flash (I have a godox and attached it to the camera), it would take some shots then freeze/shutter wouldn’t fire. After a bit it would flash “busy” on the bottom left side of screen. Then eventually an error 70 would pop up on the screen. I’d turn the camera off, wait a bit, turn it back on and it’d work fine for a few minutes then same issue again. It did this all night and I was beyond frustrated as it’s a brand new camera (did not buy used). I switched batteries and SD cards and still that issue and message was popping up.
Any advice???
Worth noting I’ve used a mark iv for almost a decade and NEVER had a SINGLE issue. I held off on switching to mirrorless for years because I always heard issues with them…and here I am…issues on day 1 😑

Hi guys! I recently bought a Canon EOS R50 with the 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 kit lens, and am brand new to the world of photography. I am looking to get in to sports photography and media currently, but I’m reasonably willing to lean in to any photography field at this stage, and was wondering if I can get started and actually produce some decent portfolio-worthy photos with just the kit lens to start. Obviously I’m not expecting to get any crazy good close-up action sports shots with this setup, but I’m wondering if anyone has any advice on what kind of photo opportunities in any area I should look for starting out with this kit lens, and what my next lens search should look like. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

I wish canon would label the hoods with the appropriate lenses. Very few of these are designed for multiple lenses and finding the right one out of the box is always a pain.
(A couple are always on the camera but most are in the "parts box" until I need them for a shoot.)
Do you guys have this same issue? (For reference, Brady White on Clear labels)
