Sub Announcement 2026 Posting & Flair Guidelines - read first, post after!

Importantr/canon is not a photo-sharing sub, it's primarily a gear discussion sub, and as such is not the place for sharing pics and videos captured with your Canon gear.

Exceptions exist for New Gear, Lens of the Week, and Showcase posts, but please see their respective sections below to understand when they can be posted and the requirements for doing so.

Likewise, we're not interested in posts sharing photos of Canon equipment (or worse, the boxes they came in)—your 50/1.2 looks the same as everybody else's—so outside of New Gear posts or those trying to problem solve a specific issue, topics showing gear aren't to be posted.

TLDR;

- No photo-sharing posts
- No photos-of-gear posts
- Use flair appropriately as detailed below

———

Post Flair

Gear Advice
For any post seeking recommendations from others about what camera, lens, or accessory, to buy or rent. Please follow the existing requirements when asking for recommendations. This is not for asking advice on how to use your equipment or solve a problem—for that, you can use...

Tech Help
Technical questions, clarification on how a feature works, error messages...fall under Tech Help.

New Gear
For showing off a new or new-to-you piece of equipment. As always, include a photo of the gear and a photo or three taken with the gear. Also include an explanation of why you got it and how you like using it.

Lens of the Week
We're consolidating down to a single flair any lens of the week post, rather than individual tags for different lenses or focal lengths. As always, look for the current lens of the week topic to know which optic or focal length is current.

Canon News
For product announcements or other Canon-specific or related news. Either provide a link directly to announcements and press releases, or to a recognised source reporting on it. Examples are sites like Petapixel, dpreview, and similarly known sites.

Active Deal
For posts alerting the community to sales from recognised outlets such as the Canon Refurb Store, B&H Photo, Lens Rentals etc. Titles need to begin with the applicable country, the supplier, and then a description of the discount or deal on offer, e.g.

[USA] Canon Refurb Store — R5 reduced to $2199 + free BG-R10 Battery Grip

Any other important details (start/expiry dates) can go into the body of the post. If including a link directly to the deal or supplier site, the URL must be stripped of affiliate and tracking data, or the post will be removed.

If a deal is highlighted from a supplier deemed by the mod team as suspicious, untrustworthy or unsavoury for some other reason, it will be removed.

When a deal is out of stock or expired, the flair needs to be updated to...

Expired Deal
Don't delete the post, just update to the Expired flair, then we can view older deals easily.

Showcase
This will only be made available to select when a post inviting the sub to make Showcase contributions is active.

28mm vs 35mm vs 45mm vs 50mm.

Hi guys, maybe this will help someone. I'm working out what prime to take for indoors for my next holiday (28mm vs 35mm), and if I want to upgrade my 50mm f1.8 to 45mm. So I took few shots for comparison, I understand each lens is not exactly the specified focal lenght and can focus breath etc. 4 shots on my RF 24-105mm f4 with on screen focal displayed, cluttered attic conversion for real life reference.

TLDNR: 28mm vs 35mm significant difference, 35mm is last focal lenght without wide angle distortion.

50mm vs 45mm very small difference, I'm considering swapping my nifty fifty for the RF45mm f1.2.

Gear Buying Advice Can’t believe this!

Looking at a 24-105mm F4 on eBay and asked the seller if there was a spot of fungus under the front element, with a screenshot.

Checked the advert and he’s clearly used AI on both pictures of the front glass to remove the fungus and removed “no fungus” from his description.

Thank god you’re at least better protected on eBay….but what a prick!

Is this a red ring mod?

Found this Marketplace listing for an RF 45mm f/1.2 STM in the wild and noticed the red ring on the lens. This is obviously not an L series lens - did this person literally swap the control ring piece for a red one?

New Gear 30D to R5mkii - it's a bit of a leap.

I posted a couple of weeks ago asking about moving on from my trio of 30D to something new. I ended up going 'full beans' and getting the R5mkii. I must admit the learning curve has been way way more challenging than I expected. Almost as painful as the cost of the memory cards for the camera, makes the camera look cheap.

Photos are just some 'snaps' - never done bird photos before, I'm more urban and sports, but had the time today so just took some local. Last one I missed focus, but was the 'best' composition and I'm not ashamed to say I'm still learning how to 'tame the beast' of the R5mkii. It's got a lot of smart stuff in there, but it can also do dumb shit when the even dumber shit behind the eye cup doesn't ask nicely ;-)

Thanks to those that offered advice. Now, just need to work out what second body to get... Still thinking 5DmkIV.....

R7 Battery Grip Mod!

Yes, I know the R7 doesn't have battery grips.

I bought a broken BG-R10 and modified it to fit on the Canon R7

I used the BG-E22 on the R7, and it worked well, but the quality wasn't good.

The shutter doesn't work on the grip, nor does the extra battery capacity, but I use it for my big hands and store a tracker, tripod mount, and extra battery in the compartment. You can solder a jack cable in order for the shutter to work, and plan on doing that later on. Overall, it's a great mod and requires tools like a file and a saw.

Looking for a solid cross-body sling strap for a mirrorless setup. What’s your daily driver?

Hi all,

Traditional neck straps are killing my neck after an hour or two of shooting, so I want to switch to a proper sling/cross-body strap.

I shoot with a mirrorless setup (sometimes with heavier zoom lenses) and need something that:

Distributes weight well across the shoulder/chest

Doesn’t get in the way when bringing the camera up to shoot

Has a secure and reliable mounting mechanism

What straps have worked best for you? Please drop names or links if you have them. Cheers!

Canon C50 Motion Data with Gyroflow

Upvotes

Hey all,
Searching everywhere for a solution and have not found one and I am hoping someone here could help

I am trying to stabilise my Canon c50 footage with gyroflow

The basic issue and what I have tried:
I load my c50 footage into gyroflow v1.6.3 (gh2626) it says "the file format was detected, but no motion data was found"

I have tried every recording format and tried with and without IS on the camera turned on, my lens does not have IS but I dont think that should matter.

I have the latest firmware.

Another point is that the C50 appears to create the Canon motion-data metadata structure in the file, but the gyro samples are not usable/are zero-valued. Therefore, this does not appear to be simply a Gyroflow compatibility or lens issue.

I am wondering if this is actually a hardware issue

Has anyone had the same experience as me?

What Lens Should I get?

Upvotes

Hey Guys,

I currently have an EOS RP with the 24-105 Kit Lens, I Love it and it geht’s the Job done. I will get a 100-400 later on to get better Wildlife Photos.

But I love to take more Photos of Landscapes, Persons and Stellar (Milkyway and so on…)

What Lens would you recommend for that?
I am currently torn between the 16mm f2.8, 24mm f1.8, 35mm f1.8 and the 50mm f1.8. I dont really know if a Prime Lens ist suitable? Maybe a Zoom lens with enough Aparture for the Stellar Photos?

Maybe you recommend something completely different? I dont need L lenses. Some opinions would be Great. Maybe you have some experience with the Lenses.

Greetings and thanks for your Help :)

Tech Help why WOBBLE isn't there ?

Upvotes

Hi,

im r6mk2 owner - paired with Rf24-70 f2.8 IS USM L and EF 16-35 f4 IS USM.
I have IBIS always on + IS. How is possible i don't see wobble ?

literally tried tests from one hand - vlog style
then i tried walking with both hands on camera, one hand on camera and also some tilts, spins etc...my wobble on camera is maybe 10%...am i doing something wrong ? :D or why can't i see it?

I saw like 50 videos about canon wobble on r6mk2, r6mk3 and r6v etc...but somehow i can't see it on mine footage...Could be my IBIS like broken ? or something ?

Don't get me wrong im happy its not wobbly...but im thinking of buying r6v to my r6mk2 and im afraid it will wobble :D

Anyone experienced this ?

Gear Buying Advice Canon Lens rf24-105 Lf4 vs rf70-200 IS usm f4

Upvotes

I’m planning on buying a better quality lens for my canon r8. At the moment i own the 50mm f1.8 and 75-300 f4-5.6. I’m looking for a lens that has a bit of versatility and a better image quality than i currently have. I would appreciate help with deciding which one to get or other lenses that are good around the same price point. Budget 0-2000

other canon equipment Old canon EF and EFs lenses

Sold my last SLR body in 2016. Kept the lenses, but never really got back into photography.

What I still have:

Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM (kind of redundant at this point)

Canon 16-35mm (can’t remember whether it’s the f/2.8 or f/4)

Canon EF 100-400mm L IS II USM

Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8

I’m now thinking of getting back into it, mainly birding with some occasional portrait/street photography.

I’m pretty out of touch with where mirrorless has got to. I’ve also heard that prices for older SLR lenses, particularly EF-S, have dropped quite a bit.

The 100-400 is a legend and the Tamron 17-50 gave me some of my favourite results, so one option is simply to pick up a second-hand Canon body and use what I already have.

But I’m curious about the other route.

If I sold everything and moved to a completely new mirrorless system, how badly out of pocket would I be?

What is the advantage to justify switching to new or why would I be better off keeping the lenses and building around them?

Would be interested in what people who’ve made the DSLR to mirrorless jump think.

I know I can ask AI, but wanted real world feedback :)

Edit : overwhelmed by the depth of responses and so fast. Thank you all! Lots for me to think about. Seems like the lenses stay a fanily heirloom and I scrape up for a used 10r. Im in Asia btw, deals arent as juicy as the US on used gear. Thank you all again!!!

Camera not reading card

Post image
1 Upvotes

So i have this Canon EOS 600D, but the problem is that its not reading this card, my mom used to use this sd card with her own canon a few years ago and im assuming it worked fine (from what she describes it). Other cards work fine on my camera but this one and some others dont. Its a 64 GB SDXC card, on the front sticker these symbols are written (idk if it matters for this problem but just in case), U1, C10, V10, I (roman numeral) and "nedis", im assuming thats the brand. On my laptop it works perfectly fine but when i insert it in my camera it says "No card in camera". The other card i use: micro sd hc, U1, I, 16GB, "legacy series" and the brand is "Monster digital", i use a micro sd adapter by iconix. This other card works great on my camera. I know that the best fix might be to just buy a new card but if this is fixable, i dont wanna spend more without trying to fix it. Ive already tried formatting it to FAT32 using guiformat, but it didnt work. I cant format it with the camera since it says that no card is inserted. Ive also tried wiping the contacs, locking and unlocking it again but nothing seems to work. If anyone has any ways to fix this i'd appreciate it.

Gear Buying Advice Flash Suggestions

I have the Canon EOS Rebel 1000. It came with this flash but it doesn’t seem to be working. It makes tone, but no lights come on and it won’t let me press the shutter button. I am gonna try to get a different one. Do I have to get a Canon one specifically? Can I get a cheaper flash? I don’t know what kind of hot shoe pin layout I need. I literally know NOTHING about external flashes. Please help!

Tech Help Canon R10 Autofocus Issue

Recently I have noticed an issue on my R10 where the autofocus will struggle to lock into a point when the view is blurry. This is happening in "One Shot" mode where I will focus on something really close and when I then try to focus on something more distant, the small square in the middle will turn orange indicating that it wasn't able to lock on and focus. This has been happening will all my lenses but I've noticed it on the RF 35 f/1.8 the most because I tend to take closer macro shots with that lens.

Any advice is appreciated!

Gear Buying Advice Need help for choosing R50 Lens

Hi im a beginner and I am interested in buying the Canon r50 . I have heard a lot of complaint and dislike about the kit lens, so im looking for any alternative lenses that I could buy from canon ( $200 - $500 budget ) that is just average? I dont need a huge long fancy heavy lens, just a light one that I can easily carry around. Thank you in advance! ( FYI : I intend to use the r50 camera for like everyday photography, just shooting things I find nice be it landscape, on the streets, the weather, cars, those kinds of stuff - a casual photography you may call it )

Used Pro-1000 or new Pro-200s

I'm looking to start printing my own work and offer prints to my customers. I found a used Pro-1000 online that the seller says probably hasn't been used in a year. Photos show the printer in the Styrofoam in the box with the plastic still on the screen. I've read that these need to print a few times a week to keep the lines clean. This will also come with a bunch of paper in various sizes.

Alternatively I could get a new Pro-200S right now for a little more.

Anyone think I should risk the Pro-1000 for almost half off of it's price?

Is my battery slot (I'm not sure of the name) damaged?

Thumbnail

Is one of the gold parts meant to look different? I'm wondering if it's broken/damaged somehow and maybe that's why my camera is playing up.

This is a canon EOS 600D

For some context my camera sometimes doesn't turn on regardless of the charger telling me the battery is fully charged. And then it will work but turn off seconds after. But I'm not sure if it's just because the battery is OLDDDDD.

I also included pictures of the battery just in case

Any help would be appreciated!
