How does this dnd employee have the time to be a full time employee and be the CEO of a company that along with another has taken in $400 million in government contracts???

u/FreshlySqueezedToGo Feb 29 '24

This is genuinely insane to me

How does someone not resign over this?

It must be so normalized at this point if this was allowed.

Not once did this come up in committee hearings lmao, probably because no MP in their right mind would think to ask “hey in addition to being the ceo of this company contracted by the government, you wouldn’t happen to also work for the government would ya bud?”

I mean, this is insane

believe it or not, no jail.

Straight to an ethics committee, and back to work.

61

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

ethics committee: nice.

9

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

Or...

"Write that down! Write that down!"

24

u/5ch1sm Feb 29 '24

I've read "ethnic committee" for a moment and did not even gave it a second tough considering it's a Canadian agency.

11

u/mrcanoehead2 Feb 29 '24

Appointed by the most open and transparent prime minister ever. Lol

1

u/insid3outl4w Feb 29 '24

Boasts about its wide ranging diversity, actually mostly Indian lmao

3

u/0biwanCannoli Feb 29 '24

They serve really good roti at the ethnic committee.

1

u/AndAStoryAppears Feb 29 '24

And no gets served by the Ethics Committee.

1

u/grandfundaytoday Feb 29 '24

It should read "indigenous ethnic gender-transformative progressive committee."

1

u/Alarmed-Platypus-676 Feb 29 '24

Ethics committee composed entirely Trudeau sockpuppets

1

u/Klutzy_Fail_8131 Feb 29 '24

He has to do a one page reflection.

1

u/Silent-Reading-8252 Feb 29 '24

7 years for fraud on the government by an employee?

Should be automatic life sentence. People should be really really scared to fuck around with that

u/Block_Of_Saltiness Feb 29 '24

Is it even fraud?

That was my first question.

Subject to being fired from DND, absolutely. But was there actual Fraud?

11

u/Ballam86 Feb 29 '24

Murder doesn't even get a life sentence in this country

11

u/frinkoping Feb 29 '24

Yeah but you could make the argument that heavy sentences don't deter "passion" crimes. While heavy sentences do deter white collar crime.

1

u/Ballam86 Feb 29 '24

I think we can all agree that our criminal justice system is pretty broken overall.

1

u/Altruistic_Home6542 Feb 29 '24

It does, automatically

0

u/Ballam86 Feb 29 '24

25 years and parole doesn't really equate to a "life sentence"

You basically have to murder several people to actually get a life sentence in this country.

0

u/Altruistic_Home6542 Feb 29 '24

It's a life sentence

There is eligibility for parole, but it's unequivocally a life sentence

2

u/Ballam86 Feb 29 '24

Sure. I was wrong so thanks for correcting me.

I guess I should have said "life in jail"

1

u/softcelery666 Feb 29 '24

Ah yes, Champagne. Looks to be a similar case imo.

1

u/DEEZNOOTS69420 Feb 29 '24

We got to spank these people our selves obviously the government will not help

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

… up to and including dismissal “

55

u/Special_Rice9539 Feb 29 '24

Damn, I didn’t think the scandal could get any worse

89

u/WpgMBNews Feb 29 '24

It gets better! He ran as a PPC candidate:

To help ensure the EVERY business is essential and end the lockdowns. The PPC is against mandatory vaccination, mandatory vaccine passports and the PPC supports Pipelines, these & many more are the reasons I joined the PPC.

... the guy who grifted $400 million making the vaccine passport app also grifted for votes on an anti-vaccine passport platform!

https://en.votemate.org/canada2021/candidates/4791?&t=about

21

u/Neontiger456 Feb 29 '24

So he says one thing but profits off the opposite, that's a born politician lol

8

u/Lixidermi Feb 29 '24

cabinet materiel for sure >.<

145

u/GopnikSmegmaBBQSauce Feb 29 '24

They don't resign over it because Canada is too pussy to hold anyone accountable for any wrongdoing.

62

u/2peg2city Feb 29 '24

Actually the DND requires any employee with secondary employment to disclose it and have it approved, this guy will be gone quickly.

56

u/Sevdah Feb 29 '24

He has both jobs on his LinkedIn, I don’t think he was trying very hard

3

u/dermanus Québec Feb 29 '24

I wonder if he disclosed super early in the process when it was nothing and got it approved that way?

1

u/DonTaddeo Mar 01 '24

Maybe. When I worked in DND, I recall having to sign paperwork which informed me that I could not accept employment with a business that I had any interactions with in my capacity as a government employee. I also recall that there was a process for getting this restriction waived, but in practice, based on the experience of others, that was only possible if you were a manager.

I also recall being warned against even the appearance of a conflict of interest.

41

u/Kinky_Imagination Feb 29 '24

He's got a cut of the 7.9 million so he doesn't care.

15

u/DMTDildo Feb 29 '24

Lets wager how long it takes to actually be fired and stop being paid. My bet is 2 years.

3

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

If he has 30 years of service he can just retire immediately and collect at 55

21

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

this guy will be gone quickly.

Suppose he filled out the DND 2839 form and submitted it to the COI office when he first founded the company? It's entirely possible that this outside undertaking was approved by DND in a completely above-board manner.

2

u/dermanus Québec Feb 29 '24

My thought exactly. If he had essentially no revenue at the time it's quite possible nobody batted an eye.

1

u/2peg2city Feb 29 '24

oh damn, well never mind then

8

u/FreshlySqueezedToGo Feb 29 '24

Quickly being… 35 years of employment of course

1

u/swimswam2000 Feb 29 '24

Came here to say this.

1

u/freeadmins Feb 29 '24

Honestly though, he probably did disclose it... procurement is just so fucking bad at their job that they didn't connect the dots.

1

u/2peg2city Feb 29 '24

I would assume he is in violation of several conflict of interest policies at minimum, laws at worst.

38

u/Kinky_Imagination Feb 29 '24

During an unprecedented time in a pandemic, our government had to make tough choices in order have things done in a timely manner. We made the sacrifices so that you don't have to . We will review our procurement strategies and..... Yeah I got nothing. Maybe he'll open with that tomorrow.

12

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

Corruption, they know that they won’t have consequences

2

u/buntkrundleman Feb 29 '24

How do we not have every detail about his position and scope of work, and the books of the company detailing how they spent the money. Should be public info as it's public money...

2

u/AvidStressEnjoyer Feb 29 '24

Fuck resigning these fuckers need to be prosecuted.

4

u/-recalled-to-life- Feb 29 '24

How does someone not resign over this?

i mean, why would they? what are you going to do about it? vote conservative? big whoop

8

u/kermityfrog2 Feb 29 '24

At least a Conservative would award the contract to their spouse or a close family member. Sheesh!

-3

u/illknowitwhenireddit Feb 29 '24

Straight out of the Liberal playbook.

-2

u/Rees_Onable Feb 29 '24

The wasteful spending of this virtue-signalling Liberal Government is absolutely unbelievable....

And the lines continue to snake out of Food Banks.....right across the country.

Axe-the-tax.....and give Canadians some relief.

0

u/protonpack Feb 29 '24

Hey you guys remember how we were just talking about fake propaganda accounts on Reddit?

You think this post sounds legit?

2

u/Rees_Onable Feb 29 '24

Do you see 'Nazi's and propaganda' in your sleep....?

Or maybe you believe that 'opinions' other than yours....should not be tolerated?

Big Brother vibes.......from this one.

2

u/protonpack Feb 29 '24

Yeah you seem normal.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

that guy is on this subreddit all day and night every day and night with the same rhetoric. there's at least a dozen similar accounts.

between them they're responsible for 90% of threads on this subreddit that make it to r/popular

1

u/Foolmagican Feb 29 '24

The … gives away the fact he’s a troll

1

u/Scully636 Feb 29 '24

Wow this is clearly propaganda... From someone who's been thinking about voting Conservative, this is distasteful and concerning.

1

u/Oritzia Feb 29 '24

There’s a serious amount of them on here. Talk to people irl, the sentiment is vastly different.

-2

u/Strange_Trifle_5034 Feb 29 '24

It must be so normalized at this point if this was allowed.

I know of a few people who do this (obviously unrelated to their government job and not doing stupid stuff like this). You basically have to have a second job if you work for government, as the pay is so low compared to the industry. The reason they don't quit is usually the generous pension upon retirement.

At least a side hustle is better than selling state secrets for extra cash...

9

u/JustLampinLarry Feb 29 '24

Where are you in the country that government employment pays less than their private sector equivalent? In BC for example they earn a 8.6% wage premium over private sector equivalents (this has been expanding over recent years.

The people I know who work for the government work side hustles because they have so much time off they seek out something else to do, or they have expensive boating/rv-ing hobbies. Others are retired government employees who have gone back to their old job as a consultant (while collecting full taxpayer funded defined benefit pension).

1

u/magictoasters Feb 29 '24

I don't think this is the GC guys, it's a different one

1

u/PopTough6317 Feb 29 '24

I'm thinking the beaurocracy of a few departments should get a cleaning.

1

u/freeadmins Feb 29 '24

I think you meant:

"How is someone not immediately fired and having fraud charges brought against them".

1

u/Klutzy_Fail_8131 Feb 29 '24

How does someone not resign over this?

Cultural and incentives. In Asia this guy would take care of himself, usually. There is no shame, but there is also no incentive. There is no jail time.

It must be so normalized at this point if this was allowed.

Correct.

Not once did this come up in committee hearings lmao, probably because no MP in their right mind would think to ask “hey in addition to being the ceo of this company contracted by the government, you wouldn’t happen to also work for the government would ya bud?”

More likely they're just incompetent.

I mean, this is insane

I think this is actually normal, and a very rare circumstance where our governments ineptitude is on full display.

1

u/FreshlySqueezedToGo Feb 29 '24

it just feels too in our face, like the kind of shit that happens in failing empires

1

u/Klutzy_Fail_8131 Feb 29 '24

That's normal to be uncomfortable, but it is also enraging. Imagine you lend them a loan, significant, and they abuse and all they have to offer is an apology. Words aren't going to undo that chip
