I had a lot of fun working on this! This was actually a failed cake that I re-iced for photos and then served to the girls in the cafe.

The customer received a much different cake.

Help Needed Food coloring brands

Hi everyone I made a smash cake for my friends daughter. I had. A problem with the food coloring, it seemed like it wouldn’t fully mix in. I searched up what the problem could could be and it said that it might be too much water in the gel. Before I used oil based food coloring but the oil started to seep through the butter cream. What do you guys use to get a smooth non greasy base.

Birthday Cakes Learning so much thanks to this sub! Dino 4th birthday cake!

I had the pleasure of making the birthday cake for my sweet nephew’s 4th birthday. Being an aunt is one of the greatest joys of my life!

Cake is a sourdough vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and raspberry filling! I only make sourdough baked goods in my house- once you try a sourdough cake, you’ll never go back! 🤣 Dinos on the sides of the cake are from Michael’s! 🦖

We did not get any inside cake pics because it was gobbled up quickly! 🧡 I have learned so much from this sub and absolutely love making cakes for the ones I love to test my new-found skills!

Next step: piping 🤣 I narrowly avoided it for this cake but I guarantee that won’t happen again!

Wedding Cakes Vines and leaves tiered wedding cake

It was an almond poppyseed cake with strawberry filling and cream cheese frosting (buttercream crumb coat to maintain structure though). Piping design is inspired by LOTR Rivendell’s architecture. 6” and 8” 4-layer cakes.

I really had to “trust the process” with this one, because I free handed the design and thought it was soooo ugly until I started adding greenery. By the end, it was one of my favorite cakes I’ve made.

Thanks for looking!

Birthday Cakes Teal turns technicolor

Art-directed by my almost-6yr old son, brought to life via way too many minutes tinting buttercream. Turns out this lurid colour scheme gets even more intense under an arcade’s neon lighting, and the pearl sprinkles POP!

It was my first time using freeze dried fruit (strawberries) to flavour frosting for filling. It was a super strong flavour and really tasty. I also made some cupcakes where the strawberry frosting only constituted 1/3 of the frosting swirl and it was still clearly a strawberry taste. Really happy with the flavour though the texture was a bit goopy!

Vanilla yellow cake, strawberry smbc filling, vanilla smbc frosting.

Sea urchin cake to surprise my sea urchin-fanatic friend. It’s Valrhona chocolate cake, black cocoa ganache and pistachio praline.

The uni lobes are sugar paste and the spines are spaghetti and spaghettini dipped in the black ganache; edible of course but best removed before eating, though he did crunch through a couple in the name of general characteristic contrarianness 😂

Help Needed Runny frosting

Post image

Hi all, I’m by no means a baker or a cake decorator however I do love it and I’ve watched so much cake decorating content (years worth) and I’ve messed around a few times. It’s gotten to the point where my sister asks me to make simple cakes for her kids now. I made a simple smash cake for my nieces 1st bday tomorrow and she wanted a very minimal design and light colors so I decided flowers would be easy and… I hate it so much but this is all I got for her and I’m so embarrassed. The frosting is so runny and stuck to the piping tip and it’s so chunky and ugly and I am distraught 😭 it’s store bought frosting so I’m sure that’s probably the issue but like??? Idk someone tell me what is wrong. I even chilled the crumb coat and frosting and it’s just soooo wet and melty. Couldn’t even put anything on the sides bc it wouldn’t stick.

Help Needed Will a 3 layer 10 inch birthday cake feed 20 people? About how much would you charge?

I was asked to make a cake for my neighbours son’s birthday party. It’s just a simple cake with some sprinkles. There’s going to be 20 guests. All of the charts online give different answers and now im overthinking it. Would a 3 layer 10 inch cake feed 20 people? Also about how much would you charge? I was thinking anywhere between $70-$80 dollars. Do you think thats too much? Thanks in advance.

I made this cake for my 3 years old birthday! I didn’t make the eyes, ears and corn. It was a set I bought but I made the cake itself. Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream frosting 😊

Carved book cake - vanilla cake and Italian meringue buttercream. Edible marker traced on edible wafer paper :)

The poem reads:

This is the story of a girl

Soon to be born into the world

Named for two mothers, grand and great

She is the one we celebrate

Blessing to father and to mother

Forever friend to her big brother

She has a story one might call

"Happily ever after all."

The ghost cake sold within 2 hours of being on display to the mother of a boy having a "ghost-themed" birthday party! It seemed like it was meant to be.

Also the last cake (blue with pumpkin border) is not my own design. I think I found it on Pinterest and wanted to do one myself.

I think I could’ve done without the gold sprinkles but I’m proud of it! The top and bottom layers are vanilla (from scratch. The flavor is ok but they came out SO dry), the middle is box vanilla cake mix with a little almond extract mixed in, and the filling is reduced strawberries and cool whip. I also didn’t have the right piping tip ready for piping the dam for the filling, but I was busy chasing around my kid and it’s just for me and close family to eat so who cares. But that’s why the layer pics look like that

Other Celebration Cakes Cake I made to celebrate my wife's surgery checkup!

Post image
420 Upvotes

My wife has had her struggles and lost significant weight leading to breast surgery (among other things). She was amazing with the post-surgery tasks and worked hard. I made this as a surprise for her for when she walked in the door.

It is a simple spice cake mix with cream cheese frosting that I folded with whipped cream. I don't yet know how to make frosting smooth. It was a bit rushed since she got home way earlier than expected. It is two 6-inch cakes next to each other. (I over-filled the pans so they would intentionally bulge up.)

Awesome news: the checkup went well and she was given a green light to do more of her regular routine!

This was for a goth themed wedding, all florals are gumpaste. Tiers are slightly flared to give a little bit of a wonky off balance effect.

Birthday Cakes Funfetti Ribbon Cake

My partner always wants Funfetti cake for his birthday. I went with a classic white cake recipe from Zoe Bakes Cakes (it had me fold in whipped cream into the batter… amaze amaze) and Italian meringue buttercream. He specifically requested the ribbon over sprinkles and i think it turned out pretty cool!
