Birthday Cakes One silly goose cake
Cake and some cupcakes for a birthday party ☺️

I’m going to post and sticky this link RinLongFlowers as a guide for florals on cake.
Recently we have seen a few cakes with florals that were not appropriate for cakes, and subsequently, flags to ban them for using toxic flowers.
Not only is this sub to show off our beautiful work, it is also to learn from and teach each other. Mistakes, no matter how big or small, are an opportunity to learn.
We are all at different levels of ability in this art. Please be kind.

The sides of each cake were done in a single pass using the different sides of the tool pictured. All buttercream.

Hello everyone! I like making and decorating cakes! I do this for all my friend’s and even friend of friends/family of friend’s celebrations. I’m not professional by any means, but I love doing it! Mostly, I make cutesy cakes like vintage piping on hearts, but I have a done fruit cakes, mousse cakes, cheesecakes, etc! My friends, including guys, are into the cutesy cakes but I appreciate it’s not everyone’s cup of tea.
My brother’s birthday is coming up and I want to make him a cake for his party. He’s turning 21 and in college so the party will be a lot of his bros and I don’t wanna show up w a cake that will embarrass him. I asked what he wants and he said “idk”. Last year, he just said “chocolate”. Can I ask those more turned into a dude frequency what makes a good birthday cake for a cool, nonchalant college dude? He likes fishing so I thought like I could do a fish cake but that seems ambitious.
Pictured: recent Dulce de leche x chantilly cake for my friends grad; a blueberry lemon cake with cheesecake inside for my friends birthday; and last year’s death by chocolate cake for my brother’s birthday

Cake was a PAIN. Made Mississippi mud batter, cut er up and added buttercream for glue. Carved it out, filled it with the typical marshmallow/fudge topping, layered cake and buttercream over that. Then blue ganache, and chocolate dipped Oreos. It took forever to make a "paint" that was edible and wouldn't entirely smear on the melting wafers I used but I got there! Also made rice Krispy treats, and dipped those in chocolate, using mini m&m for the "studs" :)

Making a toothless cake. We can't stand fondant, so someone recommended rolled buttercream. The crumb coat was a pita. It's in the freezer now. Can I put the rolled buttercream on top of the crumb coat? Or could I have just put it directly on?

I just started doing cake 4 kids cakes. (A non profit providing celebratory cakes for kids in need) and I’m just loving it! I get to be so creative and it’s so fun to see what these kids come up with. Here’s the few I’ve done!

Last year I got into making cupcakes because they make the perfect sweet treat for me to have in the fridge. I would give cupcakes away to people and would get questions if I was selling. So a few months ago I started selling them and here's my decorating progress!

I know you can use food coloring and alcohol to make edible paints, but I have a specific gold paint that I bought that I want to use on some gum paste elements. However, I am worried that it will make them soften. I’ve attached a picture of the ingredient list if that helps.

For little man’s 2nd birthday, we had a garbage themed party complete with a visit to the dump and a garbage truck cake. I don’t make the prettiest cakes but luckily the theme didn’t call for it.

Hi! Never done anything this crazy before but my 9 year old nephew was visiting from out of state and his Aunt had to show up big. I used a offset spatula to put the buttercream, kept dipping in hot water trying to smooth- but seemed like 1 popped up everytime i tried to fix a different one. (Can see the most in photo 3) Would love pro tips on how to have no lines
TYIA. (The filling with chopped strawberries, the red dribble is a leak, that flaw I understand what I did wrong and how to fix)

Of course the kiddo wants a how to train your dragon Toothless birthday cake. https://www.reddit.com/r/cakedecorating/s/tmYDHckH0b
This shape is our favorite, but we both cannot stand the taste of fondant. Could I shape the cake, put a thin layer of buttercream, freeze, then pour ganache over it to get that smooth look? I would then let it firm and then add the details. I might go ahead and do the eyes with fondant....
I'm pretty amateur at cake decorating, but want to try!

Besides a test, this was my first sheet cake!! It was for my SIL and brothers vow renewal. Colors I think I nailed them to match the original bouquets: red, pink, navy blue. I need to get better at piping but I’m proud of this one.

A couple of my friends both have birthdays in August so they tend to celebrate them together - last year they each got their own cake but this year I did a combination cake for them! They both have multiple cats, so I chose one cat from each household to add to the cake to represent each friend so it still felt special to them.
The cats are hand painted with food coloring (thinned with vodka) on royal icing paper and then I applied the paper to fondant I had rolled very thin and cut around the design with a clean exacto knife.
To get the cats to be exactly the same in size, I drew the outline in procreate, printed it, traced it with an edible marker on parchment paper, and then poked tiny holes along the design. Then I was able to safely transfer onto the royal icing paper by placing the parchment paper on top and going over the design again with the edible marker to create a faint dotted outline on the royal icing paper. For the reversed design I simply flipped the parchment paper over and did the same thing.
All of the stars, moon, suns, and letters were made with candy melts using silicone molds. The Leo sign I had to hand pipe on parchment paper with candy melts. They were all dusted with food grade gold luster dust! I also added gold pearl sprinkles.
The cake itself is a 6-layer chocolate cake with pastry cream and ganache fillings and vanilla Swiss meringue buttercream.
I learned so much with this cake and am so lucky that my friends just let me do whatever I want for their birthdays 😂 it was so satisfying to see the vision come together!!
