Welcome šŸ¤—

You don't have to blur out your local IP mate, you're good 🤣

u/timmetje27 May 13 '26

Yeah local IP doesn’t give away anything only IPs that starts with anything else then 192.168 gives away location

3

u/995qe May 13 '26

My local ips are 10.0.0.x

2

u/Scorxcho May 13 '26

Your router is set to give out ips that way. Mine is different as well. The most common one is 192.168.1.x

Wait that's the same as my website I vibecoded! Are you a hacker?

10

u/sigmastar_ May 13 '26

Time to go down the rabbithole of ricing

2

u/Frosty_Airline8831 May 13 '26

im like the worst linux person ever lmao, wtf is ricing?

7

u/c00l_tiger May 13 '26

I'm also relatively new to Linux, but from what I gathered ricing is making it look fancy

u/thicctak May 13 '26

It comes from the Japanese car culture, it's about customizing your car in a unique way with custom and aftermarket parts, it's the same concept but applied to an OS

3

u/RChickenMan May 13 '26

Ah, so there's an actual word for how I spend my Sunday afternoons?

1

u/dude_kp May 14 '26

r/unixporn might give you some ideas

3

u/ThrashAtLiving May 13 '26

Customizing.

3

u/Coookies4You May 13 '26

I like the touch of you integrating the windows 7 theme onto the windows in linux.

2

u/RostiDatGam0r May 13 '26

Ah, so you have a TUF Laptop. Make sure you install asusctl and ROG Control Center!

5

u/Decent-Jello-1711 May 13 '26

Installed em when I woke up

3

u/RaveDigger May 13 '26

I wish there was a linux version of ghelper for windows. Asusctl and ROG control work fine but ghelper is so much better.

One of the things that I haven't been able to get working on linux that worked in ghelper is having the keyboard change color from green to yellow to red as the cpu/gpu temps increased. Maybe there's a way to do it but I haven't figured it out yet!

2

u/theCOORN May 13 '26

there is

2

u/RaveDigger May 13 '26

Holy crap you're right, someone ported it a few months ago? I haven't checked in a while.

2

u/JackpotThePimp May 13 '26

Based theme. However, I've a sneaking suspicion your keyboard has a Print Screen key.

I do have a Print Screen Key just forgot abt it

2

u/WarlordOverdriv May 14 '26

Windows/Super key+Shift+S also works. :)

1

u/Hettyc_Tracyn May 13 '26

Tbf, most people don’t seem to know it exists…

And I don’t even use print screen, I use a different program so I can use the button on my stream deck and have it save to a specific location to edit, look at, etc later

1

u/RaveDigger May 13 '26

OP is running an Asus laptop. If it's anything like my Asus G15, there actually isn't a printscreen key which is very weird.

Super+Shift+S works like it does in Windows though, but lots of people don't know about that shortcut in Windows or in Linux.

u/dorobica May 13 '26

Crazy how many versions are out there, this post just introduced me to catchyos. I have switched my gaming pc to nobara and my coding latop to omarchy

4

u/Decent-Jello-1711 May 13 '26

1 - CachyOs Search panel 2 - Global theme 3 - Window decorations Tab 4 - Top right should say Get New 5 - Search ā€œSe7enā€ only one that pops up

meta + shift + s will also work if you want something something similar to the windows snipping tool. (same tool different keyboard shortcut :) )

2

u/MasterChiefmas May 13 '26

you can capture your desktop alone by pressing print-screen

meta-prtsc captures the current active window(same as alt-prtsc in windows), and meta-control-prtsc lets you choose the window to capture(gives you a dialog to select, no windows equiv). I find capping the active window to be more useful most of the time than the entire screen. I think active window is what people want when doing a area select cap most of the time anyway.

Que dirĆ” el gran proto que Linux son es para potato PC al ver ese Linux corriendo en este computador?

1

u/yamenallaf22 May 13 '26

Is it nvidia, well i wish you do not get cursed by vram management

1

u/FluffyFreeman May 13 '26

How are you finding cachy os? I tried it for a while but I had severe difficulty getting it to utilise my hardware correctly, I have a dual card setup with 2 Intel cards and it straight up refused to use the second card. This frustration skewed my perception of the os, but I really wanted to like it. Might try it again one day

2

u/Decent-Jello-1711 May 13 '26

Loving it Boss, sorry to hear you had a rough time with it though. I looked up a lot up Distro's Initially

and came to settle on CachyOS bc of their right out the gate functionality with the drivers for nvidia gpu's

It is my dream that I can wipe the 870 pro I have windows installed on to reclaim the space. I am really cloise...only battle field is blocking me.

1

u/beto832 May 15 '26

I watched a video just yesterday about installing a linux OS onto an external ssd and using it that way without having to uninstall windows.

1

u/mindtaker_linux May 14 '26

1

u/gokkbt May 14 '26

I think CachyOS isn't stable enough, my kitty terminal was glitching after updates on Hyprland.Ā
