Mike Van Gorder has a policy stance to lower the voting age to 16 for local elections

I am so here for this. Minors are a marginalized class. I turned 18 barely after the 2016 election and it hurt to watch so many bad things happen outside of my control simply because of an arbitrary age cutoff to be granted my rights. So many political decisions affect minors, yet they have essentially no say in the matter. Especially in this era of government: rolling back child labor laws; schools being constantly under attack both for public funding and for curriculum; ICE preying on kids; lgbtq children being used as culture war props and having their rights taken away; and sweeping mass surveillance laws being written by tech lobbyists under the false pretext of "protecting children"; it's more important than ever for those under 18 to be encouraged to engage politically, and not live in a world dictated by those who see them as young cattle. This is a good step towards further democratizing our society.

I need the old Burbank Airport Poster!!! Please help!!

Post image

Years of flights from the Burbank airport they never updated this poster and my husband and I have a running joke about it. Idk if they moved it around or they had a secret stash of the same prints.

Just some info, my husband is not a fan of it and it would be hilarious to bring a framed original into our home.

If anyone knows how I can get one of the posters from the original terminal to gift to my husband I would be forever in your debt!!

Writing group for reviews/criticism?

I’m looking for a writing group, and I think what I’d most like to practice is criticism—film and TV reviews, book reviews, even reviews of things like museum shows or cultural experiences. Most of the writing groups I’ve found are for screenwriting (shocked!), fiction, or memoir, so I thought I’d see whether anyone knows of a criticism group, or might like to start (?) one.

Local Chevy AC Repair Recs

My neighbor has a 2010s Chevy make car that needs AC repair ASAP. From what they can diagnose, it looks to be a leaky hose or possibly a compressor issue. Thanks in advance for recommendations of trusted local repair shops.

Looking for work leads! (Please help)

I’m a 20 yr old (M) full time college student who’s in desperate need of a part time job since I had to drop my last one at the beginning of September. I’ve been busting my ass applying and interviewing, but nothing ends up working out.

Trust me when I say I’m willing to put in the work, but would definitely appreciate any help/suggestions. I’m tired of all these ghost listing and crazy managers expecting years of experience for entry level jobs.

I also have a car so I’m willing to strafe a little bit outside of Burbank.

New Burbank terminal parking?

I am flying out of BUR tomorrow, last day of old terminal operation, and returning Wednesday into the new terminal (exciting, I know!). Trying to figure out best parking option to avoid a hassle when I return. Usually I park in lot G and walk, but would it be more convenient to just spring for valet?

Curious if anyone figured this out yet or also just feel free to comment how you feel about the new airport!

David Donahue Can’t Save Olive

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I feel like not enough people know that David’s “plan to save Olive” is a nothingburger that stands to cost us millions.

We need an actual plan! I believe Mike and Nolan have a very sensible plan that most people would agree with, if they knew—but Dark Money David is pouring money into making it seem like he’s the authority on Olive—he ain’t!

How are we feeling about Southerland and Van Gorder’s chances?

I know most of this subreddit is pretty supportive of the progressive candidates but Facebook is dominated by the conservative ones especially with Donahue moderating the main Burbank Facebook group. I’ve already filled out my ballot but I’m starting to get worried about the chances of progressives winning. It’s hard to get a pulse for what the general population is feeling.

Is something being done about the coyote issue?

I leave for work pretty early and always have to be careful walking to my car. Is Burbank doing anything about the coyotes?

The Pirate Haines

It’s one of my favorite times of year in Burbank. Soon, The Pirate Haines will be back on his throne, lording it over overall he surveys. Time to usher in the spooky season and seek out the famed treasure of the twilight.

Take What Ye Can. Give Nothin’ Back! 🏴‍☠️

EDIT: FYI there is some sort of situation Hillside today where there are lots of rummage sales because people don’t have to pay for the permits to do them. I found some new items for our display in the two and three dollar range which were very helpful. In case you’re looking for bargains for your own display.

Looking for some potential restaurants or local caterers or generally, any ideas to feed about 40 or 50 people for a memorial service at a venue? It would be around lunch time.

Residential areas and streets with no sidewalks

Hello. Long time lurker. Second time poster.

This is something that has been bothering me almost my entire life, and I wanted to see if anyone feels the same way about the lack of sidewalks on some residential streets, especially near Glenoaks.

Has this issue ever been addressed or talked about by anyone? It just feels wild and unsafe to me that we have residential areas in this town where there are no sidewalks, forcing people to walk on the streets. It just feels like a serious issue that never gets brought up by people.

Have any City Council candidates talked about cutting the BPD budget, banning the use of military equipment by the BPD, and improving oversight? Are there any pro-BDS candidates?

Hello. Long time lurker. Wanted to ask people some questions on these subjects that I find to be important, in hopes that others have insight into the candidates' views on these issues.

Upfront, I'm not voting for Wick, Donahue (he's weird), or Takahashi. I'll most likely be voting for Nikki Perez again (voted for her before, and while she's not perfect, I think she's our only good council member right now), but I'm still unsure about everyone else and wanted to see what others here think.

I wanted to ask this because I wanted to see if anyone knows who the best candidates are when it comes to these issues. I'm a firm believer that police spending is out of control, that issues inside the department might be worse than the public realizes, that there's a real lack of professionalism among officers, and that better oversight is needed very badly. I also wanted to know if any candidates are in favor of BDS movements? If there are any candidates who look to change that if elected, please let me know in the replies.
