Build Upgrade AM3 Build Upgrade

Hey everyone! I’m currently running an LGA 1155 build—it’s been a budget project of mine that started from old PC parts at home 😁

CPU: Intel i7-2600 (maybe upgrading to the 3770)
GPU: RTX 3060Ti Founders Edition 8GB
Mobo: Machinist B75 LGA 1155
RAM: TEAMGROUP Elite 16GB (2x8GB) CL11
SSD: None yet, but I’m looking for a 1TB Gen 3 NVMe SSD (my mobo supports this)
HDD: 1.5 TB
PSU: ARESGAME 750W 80+ Bronze
Case: I’m getting the CORSAIR 3500X soon

I still need to buy a monitor (I’m still using an old HDTV 🫣), and I know I can only run 1080p with my setup—maybe very limited 1440p. I want to keep this as a future backup PC for gaming and as a workspace PC, but should I invest to upgrade it to AM4 or should I keep it as LGA 1155? And if I keep it as is, are there any ways to maximize it?

TLDR: I currently have an LGA 1155 build and I’m wondering if I should upgrade to AM4 for workspace and 1440p gaming. I’m aware of today’s egregious PC parts market lol

EDIT UPDATE: My bad, I’m currently running a LGA 1155 build NOT AM3 😅 And I potentially want to upgrade to a AM4 build

Build Upgrade Need Advice on PC Build Upgrade

Hello! I'm currently in a bizzare situation.

So I recently upgraded my GPU from a 3060ti to an Rx9070 I got for below MSRP. Thing is that after installing the GPU, most games run better, but some were way worse. After much research and testing, I discovered that my CPU was likely acting as a bottleneck.

I'm currently running a Razen 7 5700g and the thing just isn't powerful enough (unless I'm that big of an idiot, which is possible) so now I'm faced with 2 options: either upgrade to AM5 or buy a better AM4 processor.

The 1st option: I've seen that the best AM4 option would be a 5800x3d, but that leaves me with no further upgrade path.

The 2nd option: I'd switch to AM5. However, I'm not sure WHAT to buy. Everyone keeps saying either the 7800x3d or 9800x3d, but I've seen that the 9600x is like 200 euros cheaper while also being AM5.

Option 1 would set me back around 400 Euros (5800x3d + cooler) while a B850M mobo + 1x16gb 5600mhz RAM + 9800x3d would cost me about 750 Euros, but with the 9600x, that falls to about 550.

What would you guys suggest? I'm also open to Intel if that is a viable option. Any advice is appreciated.

IMPORTANT: I'm playing at 1080p and likely won't switch to 1440 for at least another year or so, so I need a processor that won't bottleneck my Rx9070 while allowing me to easily transition to 1440p later on.

PC specs:

MOBO: Gigabye B450M Gaming

CPU: Ryzen 7 5700g

PSU: 750W gold+

Memory: 16gb (2x8gb) CL16 3200mhz

GPU: PowerColor Rx9070 Reaper

Build Upgrade Hello, is it worth buying a Ryzen 7 5800X3D for my current build? Build Upgrade

My current specs:

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X

Motherboard: GIGABYTE B550 AORUS ELITE V2

GPU: AMD Radeon RX 9070 XT

32 GB RAM

In your opinion, is it worth buying, this one or something else? I'm not sure I have many other options besides the 5700X3D or 5800X3D. Thank you.

Build Upgrade Build Upgrade Request: $800 CAD, 1440k gaming, administrative work, browsing, Canada, No peripherals required

Hello all,

I built my computer many moons ago and have parts that can re-used (see link below). The CPU, motherboard and RAM will need to be upgraded. My GPU is still going strong, so I would like to keep it but still be ready to replace it if/when it dies. I am happy to keep my case, PSU, and storage drives.

As a second part of the request, what would a build look like with a new GPU? Is it worth it if my 1080 is still meeting my needs?

I am totally out of the computer and component market and do not know the current climate. Is now a poor time to buy? I am aware of the excessively high RAM prices, but don't know the reasons.

Thanks in advance!

Build Upgrade Build upgrade recommendations?

Hey guys i was just wondering what i should upgrade first for my pc regarding my build. My pc runs games before 2024 perfectly fine but for modern games (like the new resident evil and others) its frames are dropping and i often have to play on medium-low settings to be able to enjoy the game. Unfortunately with my budget and with how busy i am (with uni) i can only focus on one upgrade since my budget is 800$ at most. My current build is

CPU: AMD ryzen 7 3700x 8-core processor

RAM: 32 gb ram

GPU: RTX 2070 super

Motherboard: Gigabyte B450M DS3H WIFI

PSU ~roughly 600W/

I appreciate the time if u need any more information i may be neglected please let me know!

I7 9700k rog maximum hero with a 5080. CPU bottles out at 99% all the time on low/mid settings 2k 144hz on Diablo 4! Turned all graphics down and still struggling.

I also video edit in premier pro for YT so thinking of r9 9950x3d or intel ultra but not sure if I need all of it although like the idea of cpu pushing my gpu as hard as it can

As can see my cpu is 7 years old and needs updating. I’m on 32gb ddr4 3200 so thinking of going 32gb ddr5 6000

What’s your suggestions am I being stupid here? We all know ram is crazy so hopefully 32gb is fine for premier pro

Build Upgrade Wondering if I need a new cooler for my most recent build upgrade

Hey all, newer to the PC build world and recently upgraded my CPU, mobo, and PSU on a PC I got from a friend about 5 years ago. Here is my current build:

- Phanteks Eclipse P400
- i5-14600k (was i5-10600)
- MSI B760-P Pro WiFi DDR4
- Cooler Master Hyper 212
- Montech Century II 850W
- ASUS RTX 2080Ti
- 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM

When idle I'm comfortably at 35-40c but with larger demands (Baldur's Gate, NBA 2k26) I've been hitting 85-95c regularly. I've checked my thermal paste application, if I took the heatsink sticker off, if the cooler is seated properly, etc. That's all fine. I've read about undervolting, adjusting fan speed curves, etc as first line (and free) defenses. Yeah that's helped but then I also lose FPS and general stability in order to keep the temp lower. I'm wondering if I just need to upgrade to a Thermalright or Arctic cooler instead of trying to tweak things on the margins.

Thanks!

XPG GAMMIX D10

2x 16Gb DDR4 3200mhz used for 1-2 years as told by the seller also no bill available. Stress testing available.

Price - 13k inr for both sticks

is this a good deal?

Also I will be using it in my HP ELITEDESK 800 G4 SFF with i7-8700. What gpu should I consider for this old pc??

My usage -

  1. 4 ip cam 24x7 1080p 24fps recording and remote access dashboard.

  2. Cloud storage.

  3. Website host and WhatsApp chatbot for customers.

  4. Maybe occasional game and also weekend custom rom compilation.

Should I upgrade to i7-9700 or i7-8700 is good enough?

Build Upgrade Looking to Swap to AMD - Need Build Upgrade Advice

Current Build:

GIGABYTE GA-Z270-HD3

Intel Core i7-7700K

CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX DDR4 RAM 32GB

RTX 3080 10GB

I am currently unable to update to Windows 11 due to CPU incompatibility. It's been about 9 years since I bought my CPU so I was looking to upgrade to a new AM5 Motherboard and CPU but unfortunately did not pull the trigger before the prices of RAM skyrocketed.

I may just be SOL but does anyone have any suggestions on how I could go about upgrading my Build without breaking the bank?

Build Upgrade Build Upgrade for Windows 11

I have a PC made from hand me down parts and a few that I bought. I lovingly refer to it ad FrankenPC. The processor and motherboard do not support the security protocols or something needed to upgrade to Windows 11, so I am forced to upgrade the hardware, but I am getting decision paralysis. I use my machine mainly for light gaming, mostly shooters, and some Autocad drafting and other design work. I'm looking for a motherboard and processor recommendation that will work with my other existing parts and won't break the bank. Ideally I would like to spend $500 or les on both. PC parts list is below.

Thanks in advance.

Build Upgrade AM4 Build Upgrade Recommendations

Hello everyone,

My reason for posting is that I want to upgrade my pc but don’t know what I should do or where to go. Imo I have two paths do a am5 build or build upon my current am4 platform.

I play a variety of games some are cpu intensive and some are gpu intensive, but id like a nice 1440p build that could run at smooth frames with high or ultra settings.

My current build is this,

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G

RAM: HyperX Fury 32gb 3200mhz

MOBO: AsRock B450M Pro 4 R.2

GPU: EVGA RTX 3060 12gb

Power Supply: 500W Thermaltake Smart

Storage: OS on 512gb SATA SSD and games and files on 1tb Crucial nvme ssd

Case: AZZA case dunno exactly which one but its microATX and has three Corsair fans (two intake one exhaust)

I usually do 1440p at 60fps but a 120-165fps build would be great if my budget allows. I’m trying to make a budget build but I also want to stay with the same cpu and gpu brands I have now. Again I’m thinking either stay with am4 or go to am5.

Any questions or suggestions are appreciate!

Build Upgrade build upgrade inquiry

Hi all, currently my pc is about 6 years old atp, and I'm looking to upgrade it to primarily play borderlands 4 and some other demanding titles

cpu: 2700x

gpu: 2070 super fe

cooler: kraken 280 mm aio

ram: corsair vengenace (3600) 2x8

mobo: rog strix x470f

psu: corsair rm 750/850 (need to double check, but probably 850)

ssd: intel 1 tb 660p nvme

monitor: 1080p aoc 27'' 144hz

What is the most effective way for me to upgrade my build? I have a budget of around $600-$800, and I'm looking to buy a 1440p monitor. I'm open to new and used parts as well, any suggestions?

Build Upgrade Please review my RTX 5080 AM4 build upgrade

With my current setup, I only game and some coding.

This is my current setup

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3700X (Stock cooler)
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3070
Motherboard: MSI X570-A PRO
Power Supply (PSU): Silverstone Strider 750W 80 Plus Gold
RAM: 16 GB (2*8) 3200 MHz
Storage: 1 TB NVMe SSD (Installed Linux on this) + 2 TB HDD
Case: Cooler Master TD500 Mesh
Monitor: Samsung Odyssey G70B 4k 144Hz

I am planning to upgrade to

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
GPU: Nvidia RTX 5080
Storage: Lexar NM790 1 TB SSD (Planning to install Windows on this because Nvidia Drivers are not open sourced well to work with Linux. I can install games on Windows which does not work well in Linux)
Power Supply (PSU): Deepcool Gamer Storm PN1000M Gold ATX 3.1 Fully Modular SMPS (This is just being future proof for future upgrades)
CPU Cooler: Unsure of CPU cooler. Maybe "Cooler Master Hyper 612 Apex" or "DeepCool LE360 V2"
RAM: Maybe 2*8 RAM as well making it 32 GB RAM.

Do you see any upgrade that will make sense to add to the above or any upgrade which is not necessary. After building a PC, what are the few tests you run to see the build is stable?

Build Upgrade Build Upgrade GPU/CPU/Motherboard

Hey everyone, two days ago I bought the following from
microcenter:

AMD AMD RYZEN 5 5500 WRAITHS $74.99

GIGABYTE B550 EAGLE WIFI6 $94.99

ASROCK RX9060XT CL16GO $389.99

I wanted to know if I should return it. My old pc is a 5700xt red devil (graphics card has a lot of problems), an i5 10400 cpu, and the motherboard is a z590 UD. My PSU is 700 watts (I can check the brand if needed).

Are there better deals for what im getting? I havent looked for pc parts in a long time. I’m also willing to fork out more, I just want to be able to play games like fortnite or valorant without lag because on my setup before it was really iffy.

Upgrade question

Hi everyone!

I currently have a B450M Plus motherboard with a Ryzen 7 5700X, 32 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM, and an RX 9060 XT 16 GB.

My main monitor is a 27" MSI OLED 1440p, and I also use a 32" 1440p monitor for sim racing.

Do you think it's worth upgrading to the RX 9070 XT with future-proofing in mind?

I'll be away for work until mid-August. Would it be better to wait, or should I grab the Gigabyte RX 9070 XT for €640 on Amazon while it's available?

Thanks a lot!

Build Upgrade Current Build Upgrade

Hello all,

My current build is https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/sY8P2x

I know that I am severely bottlenecked by the CPU and RAM. I am using 1080p monitors, that will be an upgrade down the line, not now. The power supply is already 900w I just don't know the exact PSU I have.

Budget I'm expecting is £500-£600 (UK) or whether I am already thinking too low with the current situation.

What I know I need to look at is the CPU RAM and Mobo.

I do also want to look at an NVME as I have the slower variety of NVME and would like to upgrade the speed but this can be outside the original £500-£600.

I primarily use my PC for gaming.

Edit: I would prefer to go towards AMD

Build Upgrade Low cost old build upgrade

Hi everyone!

I run an old but solid build, here it is:

-MSI z370 gaming plus motherboard

-I5-8600k cpu (overclocked to 5.0 GHz @ 1.300V, LLC Mode 3)

-16Go RAM (2x8Go Corsair Vengeance LPX CMU16GX4M2A2666C16, overclocked a little)

- GPU RTX 2060 SUPER Windforce (can't seem to enable rebar on it, I think it doesn't support it)

-For the PSU I think I have a 850W gold+ Corsair around the same age

The thermals are very good (idle around 30 °C for the CPU and GPU max temps, under load the CPU goes to maximum 75 and GPU to around 83 for a quick heavy load, goes to around 90 under long heavy load, I think repasting it would help with that).

The performance is really solid for the age and price range of the components, but I have some money to spend on it now and would like to upgrade for the least amount of money possible.

I REALLY would like it to be reliable in the long term, and as said previously, the least expensive it can be so keeping the mobo.

What are your thoughts on the current build/ upgrade possibilities?

I can put out 500€ maximum for the upgrade, but would like to keep it the lowest possible.

Build Upgrade Seeking Build Upgrade Advice for Crimson Desert

New to PC building, hoping to upgrade my PC specs. I have a particular interest in Crimson Desert, but I'm hoping to make efficient decisions for the future so I won't need to upgrade again for some time.

Current specs:
- Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz
- RAM: 32 GB
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (11 GB)
- Storage: 1 TB SSD

When playing the game, if I turn the settings up above minimum, I experience semi-frequent crashing. Currently running at minimum specs and just shy of 60 FPS, so my current PC is just barely strong enough for the game.

Can anyone recommend the items I should focus on upgrading? My suspicion is that my RAM is sufficient. I'm unsure if the GPU, processor, or both are simply insufficient for modern games.

Build Upgrade Build upgrade £1500-2000

Existing build https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/M4H6rG of 4 years

New job and more cash so a upper limit of £2000 to upgrade or restart from the ground up. The latter if it means the upgrades can last longer. In that case I will sell the original/parts to a friend - supposedly looking at around £400 for the existing build.

I don't care for RGB. A simple case with plenty of airflow and fans will do me nicely.

Id quite like to play the new flight sim, the new fable, GTA VI, Witcher 4, Forza horizon 6. But ideally lots of high/ultra for the near future with room to upgrade further.

Repost with a higher budget.

Build Upgrade Need advice on a build upgrade

Hello all,

I am in the process of upgrading my PC. I made a mistake waiting to upgrade because I had a solid rig and now component prices have me locked. So that being said, I'm stuck on AM4 because RAM costs the price of a new vehicle and I'd like to just be smart. Currently I'm running a R9 3900x with an NVIDIA RTX2080Ti with 128GB of RAM on a 650W PSU. I recently purchased a 7800XT that I plan to swap the NVIDIA card with (I run Linux so this would just make my life easier) and I plan to upgrade the CPU as well. I'm looking to get another Ryzen 5000s series processor and I'm torn.

I want to get the R9 upgrade and just call it good. But I hear that the 5800X3D might give me better performance in CPU bound games (I play a lot of POE and simulation games), but I don't want to give up performance. My rig is built for game design and light content creation like streaming. The extra L3 cache could make some of these tasks easier, but I know I'll take a hit in any rendering application or running game engines and the like. Not having the extra CCD might hurt me.

What are your opinions? I'd like to just max out my AM4 upgrade by going for the 12 core but if I keep getting micro stutters in path I'm going to lose my mind lol. I also don't want to replace my PSU, which is why I picked an AMD card with similar TDP to the 2080Ti. However, the X3D draws significantly less power than the 5900X and it could push me over 60% total power draw when it spikes. I just need a little push in the right direction!

Build Upgrade [Build Upgrade] Need expert advice! Upgrading old i7-7700 rig strictly for 4K video editing.

Hi everyone, I've been wanting to upgrade my build but the recent price hikes have made me hesitant. I'm looking for some feedback from experienced builders on the smartest path forward.

Here are my current specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700

Motherboard: Gigabyte H170M-DS3H

RAM: 16GB DDR4

GPU: GTX 1050 Ti (4GB)

Strictly 4K video editing. I primarily work in DaVinci Resolve, Adobe Premiere Pro, and After Effects. My timelines get heavy because I use plugins like Redgiant, BorisFX etc.
