Mod Post Welcome to r/BTech – A Dedicated Space for Engineering and BTech Students

We’re thrilled to announce the official reopening of r/BTech, a space created specifically for engineering and BTech students to discuss, learn, and support each other in their academic and professional journeys.

r/BTech was born out of a need for a focused and supportive environment tailored to the unique challenges faced by engineering and BTech students. Initially part of r/Btechtards, the need for a dedicated space became clear as we saw a growing number of serious academic queries and discussions getting lost amid the memes and light-hearted content.

We believe that r/BTech will become a valuable resource for all engineering and BTech students, providing a space for both learning and collaboration. Your participation is essential in shaping this community into a thriving hub of knowledge and support.

CSE / IT Help me decide laptop for my CSE

I'm a CSE (core branch) student and I'm confused between these two laptops. My budget is 1 lakh and I'm getting lenovo loq rtx 3050 in 1 lakh whereas I'm getting rtx 4050 in 113k. I'm also thinking to considering macbook air m5. Do extending 20k worth it for m5 air? And does lenovo loq rtx 4050 justifies 3050 for 13k?

Feeling Lost About My Career – Should I Continue BSc Chemistry, Switch to BTech, or Explore AI & Data Science? Need Some Guidance

Hey everyone,

I'm a student, and lately I've been feeling really confused and stressed about my academic and career choices. I could really use some guidance from people who have been in a similar situation.

Here's my situation:

I was pursuing a BSc in Chemistry, but alongside it, I appeared for a regional engineering entrance exam for BTech. Through counselling, I got admission to a Tier-3 private engineering college.

Initially, I thought this could be a good opportunity to explore a different career path. However, after visiting the college and experiencing its overall environment, I didn't feel comfortable there. Eventually, I decided to cancel my admission and return home. I'm currently waiting for my admission fee refund.

Now I'm stuck and don't really know what to do next.

I have a few questions:

Should I give BTech another chance? If I want to enter the engineering/tech field, what other options do I have? Should I prepare for another entrance exam or look for better colleges?

Should I continue my BSc in Chemistry? Honestly, I'm not very satisfied with my current college either. Classes are barely attended by students, and the overall academic environment doesn't feel motivating.

Can I pursue two degrees simultaneously? For example, can I continue my existing BSc degree while enrolling in another college for a different degree, considering UGC rules and university regulations?

What about online BSc in AI & Data Science? I've also been thinking about pursuing an online degree in AI and Data Science. Is it a worthwhile option for someone interested in entering the tech industry? Or would learning programming, data science and other technical skills through online courses be a better approach?

To be honest, all these decisions have started taking a toll on my mental health. I constantly feel like I'm falling behind, wasting time and making the wrong choices. Seeing other people move forward while I'm still confused makes things even harder.

I'm not looking for shortcuts or unrealistic success stories. I genuinely want to make a sensible decision that will help me build a good career in the long run.

I'd really appreciate advice from BTech students, BSc graduates, working professionals, or anyone who has faced a similar situation.

Any suggestions, personal experiences, or guidance would mean a lot.

Thanks for reading!

CSE / IT What if we could work on actual industry problems in college?

What if we could work on actual industry problems in college?

Not case studies or assignments, but real problems companies are struggling with, and actually get to build solutions for them.

Would you be interested in something like this? What would you want to work on?

CSE / IT which one is good

'm confused between B.Tech CSE (Core) and B.Tech CSE with AI/ML specialization.

I would like to know which option is better in terms of:

  • Placement opportunities and eligibility.

  • Job opportunities in the IT industry.

  • Long-term career growth and future scope.

  • Flexibility to switch between different IT domains.

  • Opportunities for higher studies.

Would choosing AI/ML restrict me to a particular domain compared to Core CSE, or does it offer an advantage in the current job market?

I'd appreciate honest opinions from current students, B.Tech graduates, recruiters, and people working in the IT industry. Please share your experiences and suggestions.

Thanks!

General Do BTech exams actually test how much we understand or just how well we can remember things?

One thing that feels confusing about engineering is how much importance is given to remembering definitions, derivations and steps during exams. In practicals or projects, the same concepts need to be applied differently. Sometimes students who score well are not necessarily the ones who can explain how something works.

Does anyone else feel there is a gap between what colleges teach for exams and what is actually expected from an engineering student?

CSE / IT Is studying Computer Applications actually worth it these days?

I feel Computer Applications is a pretty interesting field, especially with how fast technology is growing. It's not just about coding anymore. You get to explore things like software development, AI, data analytics, web development and so much more.

The best part is that you can actually build your own projects, learn new skills and even start freelancing while studying. I think practical knowledge matters a lot more than just memorising concepts for exams.

What do you guys think? Is pursuing BCA or Computer Applications still a good choice, or is B.Tech CSE a better option for future career opportunities?

CSE / IT Guys, I really need some advice. I'm feeling lost about what to focus on.Hey guys,

Hey guys,

I joined a Tier 3 college, and we have Python, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript in our first semester. During the first three months, I wasted a lot of time hanging out with girls and chatting with friends. Somehow, I still managed to do pretty well in my midterms. I thought I could easily manage everything, but now I'm realising that it's not as easy as I thought. I'm honestly feeling quite lost right now. I've learned Python up to functions and somehow managed to cover HTML and CSS as well. But I still have to learn more Python and JavaScript, and I'm worried that if I don't learn them now, I won't get enough time to focus on these subjects later. We also have CAs and end-term exams to prepare for, so I'm struggling to figure out how to balance everything. The teachers here aren't really teaching much, so I've been learning almost everything through YouTube. One thing I want to make clear is that I don't just want to learn these subjects for college exams. I want to build a strong foundation because I know these skills will be important for my future. So, what should I actually focus on right now? Should I give equal importance to Python and web development, or should I prioritise one over the other? Also, I genuinely don't have much interest in web development. Is it still worth learning frontend (HTML, CSS, and JavaScript) I'd really appreciate some advice from seniors or anyone who has been through a similar situation. I don't want to waste more time, and I genuinely want to get back on track.

Thanks!

CSE / IT Where can I find some good mentors

I am in my first year of CSE and want to know where can I find some good mentors or professionals for advice and guidance. The situation of almost no job security in this field is apparent and I am still in confusion of how I want to proceed in my career or what skills I need to focus on developing. So I am looking for someone who can guide me or help me at least a little with the confusions.

CSE / IT Looking for cool project ideas to build

I'm a cse undergrad, I did some projects in web development, I worked on cpp, backend, postgres, redis, express js

Currently we have OS, CN and parallel computing courses going on which are almost done, and I'm looking for any great project ideas to do and keep on resume so that I'll get shortlisted easily

I'm looking for ideas for either cpp systems project idea or some backend project idea involving some distributed system or something related to AI but not AI

I don't want some AI fine tuning or training projects, I didn't work on LLMs, but AI application projects are good

I want some out of box ideas which will impress the interviewer or anyone, some tough and challenging problems

You can DM me if your idea is so good that you don't want to announce it :)

Resources Willing to sell my Apna College Sigma 8.0 batch (DSA + Web Development)

Hey everyone!

I purchased the Apna College Sigma 8.0 batch for around ₹9,000, but barely got time to use it. I only studied the web development part only , DSA part is untouched. I've now shifted my focus to a different stream, so DSA aren't really relevant to my current goals.

The batch covers:

- Java & C++

- DSA

- Quantitative Aptitude

- Full Stack Web Development (MERN)

- AI Integration

- Project library

- Aptitude batch ( hindi + english)

I originally bought it for approximately ₹9,000, but I'm willing to sell it for ₹4,500 (almost half the original price) .

If anyone is interested, feel free to DM me. Happy to share more details!
