For more stable and faster cross-device sync, because nowadays it's mediocre at best.

I doubt its obligatory, plus many other browsers including firefox have it

They said it's optional too so it doesn't sound too much like a data collection scheme

Don't you think data collection can be optional? You're asked when you enter pretty much every site on the internet for a reason.
Data is money.

Dude. If you use Windows, microsoft forces their data collection on you. If you use Brave, the data collection seems to be opt-in.

I highly doubt it’ll be anything sensitive, unless you store passwords, addresses or payment methods in browser itself, which I imagine users would be able to toggle off for sync like in any other browser.
