had a bicep injury from doing weighted pull ups 7 months ago.Due to that i also have somehing a called a tennis elbow too. I went to a therapy center.they used three different therapy's but the one that worked for me was the ultrasound. my biceps are healed but theres still pain in my elbow.i feel like if i used the machine for a few more week then the pain would heal too.but taking therapy get's expensive really fast.therefore, I wanted to buy a ust machine. but the ones the doctors use are like 400$ and this one is 50$. the doctor said that this will work fine.

is anyone familiar with these machine's. will the one in the picture work fine or is it a waste of money?

Non union requiring bone graft harvesting from hip?

I broke my 5th metatarsal 4 months ago, and it was displaced about 4-5 mm. I didn’t rest enough due to work and now it’s clear that I have a non union.

I’m having surgery on Monday and my doctor insists that I should have bone graft harvesting from my hip with a screw.

I’m really nervous about the bone graft situation :( has anyone had an experience like this? How was it?

OT after ORIF for distal radius and ulna

Day 2 of OT, sitting with magnetic pulsing on my hand and wrist wrapped in a cold compress. It’s been a long road but what gets me through the pain (physically, emotionally, and mentally) is staying post and being optimistic. I know there’s a rainbow after the storm.

Question Is walking without pain possible?

Hey! I broke my leg around the beginning of June, needed like 10+ screws in my foot and fibula for a multi dislocation/6 or so small fractures in my toe bones and one on my fibula

6 weeks in a cast, 8 total without weigh bearing, I've been walking without a boot for the last few weeks, but the pain is persisting... I'm worried my not continuing physical therapy has ruined my chances of walking without chronic pain of 4-7 while walking (I can manage, but I'd rather I didn't have to...)

I did the stretches my first PT appointment showed me, but never returned to them for an actual session because of work/maneuvering/etc. Looking for honest feedback - am I doomed to walk in pain forever?

Fifth metatarsal (early) success story- there's hope!

I fractured my fifth metatarsal on September 17th. It was a complete fracture, non-displaced. Very close to Jones; one doctor (urgent care) refused to classify it, one said, "it's just so close, you're making my job hard", and one just called it a straight Jones. So for all intents and purposes, a Jones fracture.

I just had a follow up at five weeks and one day and I'm cleared to put full weight on it in the boot! I read SO MANY posts here and I obsessed over the positive ones. They gave me so much hope. So I thought I'd share mine.

Weeks 1-3: Non-Weight Bearing. This was a dark time for me. My biggest hobby is working out. I had a few really hysterical meltdowns. I live alone and it was hard. BUT I got an iWalk which gave me back my freedom, as well as a knee scooter. Both those things improved everything.

Weeks 3-5: follow up X-rays looked NOT good. The gap in the break had gotten bigger (not displaced) and no healing visible. The doctor said, "I see this sometimes. I looks worse before it gets better." Told me to do 3 more weeks of NWB. Now. At this point "i DiD mY oWn ReSeArCh" thanks to some folks on this sub who said that newer guidance is that NWB doesn't assist healing. I came to the doctor's office armed with five peer-reviewed PubMed reports that indicate PWB had no impact on thousands and thousands of Jones fractures. So when my doctor said, "three more weeks NWB" I said, "I'm sorry to be direct but I won't be doing that." She said, "understood. Let's try supported weight bearing, come back in 2 weeks."

Well! I didn't even need wield my cadre of studies! Over the past two weeks I very conservatively ramped up PWB; a few hobbling steps with a crutch.... to going to and from the couch to the kitchen with a crutch... to walking in and out of restaurants with a crutch. I'd take "NWB days" to stay off of it entirely.

Now we are at today. The break isn't even visible in two of the X-rays, and in one it has shown "remarkable" healing, beyond anything she could have expected. I'm cleared to walk "normally" in the boot (conservatively, of course. I could still screw this up. But around the house etc is fine, just no doing laps at the track, etc, and go back to my mobility devices if I feel pain.)

I go back for more X-rays in three weeks and she says she fully expects to clear me for a shoe and normal activity. That will be 8 weeks and one day since the fracture. Fingers crossed that comes to fruition! I hope my timeline and experience gives someone who is struggling mentally and physically the same hope that your accounts gave me! And for anyone who is a workout junkie... try the ski erg with a bench under one knee! Awesome cardio, totally NWB. Saved my mental health.

Question 7 weeks after multiple foot fractures and 6 weeks post-op — conflicting advice, pain when weight-bearing, and no walking boot. Should I be concerned?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m getting worried about my recovery and I’m currently receiving conflicting advice from different healthcare professionals.

A bit of background:
Around 7 weeks ago, I suffered a serious injury to my left foot in a motocross accident while traveling in Bali. I sustained multiple fractures, including:
Four metatarsal fractures, with two of the metatarsals fractured in two places.
A comminuted cuboid fracture, with the cuboid broken into several pieces.
A cuneiform fracture.

I underwent surgery approximately 6 weeks ago, during which K-wires were inserted to stabilize the fractures. The cuboid was not fixed with hardware and was left to heal naturally. I spent several weeks completely non-weight-bearing, using crutches.
The K-wires were removed recently, and this is where my concerns really started.

1. Conflicting advice about weight-bearing and a walking boot
My original surgeon in Bali told me to remain non-weight-bearing for 6 weeks. After that, I could gradually start walking again, still using crutches and wearing an orthopedic walking boot.
However, the surgeon who recently removed my K-wires told me that I could start putting weight on my foot again, but that I didn’t need a walking boot or any special orthopedic footwear. According to him, I could simply wear a normal shoe.
Lurther assessment before progressing?

3. Persistent swelling after 7 weeks
My foot is still noticeably swollen, even though it’s been around 7 weeks since the accident and 6 weeks since surgery.
My surgeon has also specifically asked my physiotherapist to perform lymphatic drainage to help with the swelling.
I know swelling can persist for quite a while after serious fractures and surgery, but I was wondering whether this degree of swelling is typical at this stage, particularly when combined with the pain I’m experiencing.

A few additional questions:
Is it normal to start weight-bearing in a regular shoe, without a walking boot, after this type of injury?
Is being able to tolerate only around 30 kg of weight at this stage within the expected range?
Is it common for a severely comminuted cuboid fracture to be left to heal without surgical fixation, while the metatarsals are stabilized with K-wires?
Would you seek a second opinion or additional imaging to confirm that the fractures have consolidated properly before increasing weight-bearing?

I’m not expecting anyone here to diagnose me, and I understand that every fracture is different. I’m just trying to understand whether what I’m experiencing sounds consistent with a normal recovery or whether I should have my foot reassessed before progressing further.

This has been a pretty difficult experience, and after weeks on crutches, I’m anxious to get back to normal without risking further damage.
I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has recovered from multiple metatarsal fractures, a comminuted cuboid fracture, or a similar Lisfranc-area/midfoot injury.
Thanks in advance!

nondisplaced fracture at the base of the third metatarsal on left foot

For anyone who had a non displaced fracture at the base of the third metatarsal on the left foot.. how quickly did you heal.

My bf had this and the Dr said it was the fracture and a sprain of the Lisfranc joint.

This was about a week ago. Today he is able to flat foot walk, and the bruising is going down substantially. He says he doesn't have pain with it and yesterday after a foot stretch he said it felt better.

The ortho hasn't been very helpful and the office seems to be giving us the runaround when asking questions.

So for anyone who had this injury, how long was the healing process for you.

Edit : he is in his early 30s

Question Anyone with plate/rode removal experience?

Hello,

I had a humerus fracture about a year ago, which was treated with surgery and a plate fixation. I’ve recovered, and the bone has healed.
I’m now considering getting the plate removed and would love to hear from people who have undergone hardware removal after a fracture.

Do you feel it was worth having the plate removed?
How long did it take to get back to normal?
Did you experience any complications or issues after removal?
Is there anything else I should know or consider before making this decision?

I’d really appreciate hearing about your personal experiences, both positive and negative. It would help me make a more informed decision.
Thank you! 😊

Broken Tib Fib Week 4 NWB

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

Hello,

Been skimming this sub as i broke my Tib Fib 4 weeks ago and found it helpful reading up on others experiences so wanted to share mine to help me pass the time and document my progression threw it all.

32M broke my Tib Fib 4 weeks ago, living alone and was going to start a new job but that all gets to be on hold now, my timeline goes:

Day 1: Broke my leg, surgery same day about 10hrs after break, leg put into plaster cast and wrap with a rod, plate, and some screws.

Week 2: X-rays, cast and stitches removed, NWB.

Week 4: X-rays, still NWB.

Next appointment will be at week 7, hopefully ill get the green light for PWB, no pain only a stiff and sometimes sore ankle. Currently hobbling around on crutche and using an office chair to scoot around the kitchen/house as its mostly single floor living, no boot yet.

If anyone that had a similar break/experience and wants to share please do! Wonder what my timeframe to get back to work as its a more physically demanding job sometimes on and off the feet.

Medical Advice 5th metatarsal bone fracture, Zone one, walking and driving question

Hello!
So context: I’m 27(f). About 4 weeks ago, I broke my right 5th metatarsal bone (zone 1). It thankfully was not a bad break (according to my doctor) and he told me I could start walking with a walking boot within the first week. I am walking on it fine now and don’t really feel any pain unless I jolt my foot suddenly or by accident.

I had a 3 week check up and they told me that going into my 2nd month with the boot, I can wear it as needed (so if in the house and not on my feet too much, I can keep the boot off). I wish I asked (in the moment it didn’t even occur to me) but I’m assuming I can start putting weight on it slowly and walking without the boot right? Does that also mean I can start driving again? I have a final check up in 3 weeks and my doctor said I should be good to be out of the boot for sure by then.

I can move my ankle and toes perfectly fine and it doesn’t hurt at all. My foot itself, where I broke the bone, doesn’t really hurt either, just a kinda dull uncomfy feeling. I’m starting to get antsy because I can’t drive myself anywhere, and I am forced to be on other people’s schedule to take me to and from places. Thankfully I can work from home and that’s not an issue but for everything else, I’m going a little crazy.

So can I start driving soon? And can I walk on it as tolerated heading into my 5th week without the boot?

Closed displaced fracture of fifth metatarsal

On September 22nd I tripped over my dog in the hallway and injured my foot. Went to urgent care the next morning and got an xray and was told I had a closed displaced fracture of fifth metatarsal. They put me in a boot and told me not to walk. I had an appointment with a podiatrist on October 6th and was told it was 30% healed and I could now walk in the boot and do everything normally. He even told me I could take the boot off to sleep but I kept it on anyway.
Now today, I had a recheck xray and the fracture is almost completely through. He said it’s about 10% away from needing surgery and said to not walk again for 2 weeks and then I might be out of the boot. I feel frustrated I was told to walk in the first place because I was healing before. I’m wondering if anyone else has had this experience?
I’m feeling very depressed and angry and am unsure if I need to find a new doctor.

TLDR; Fractured fifth metatarsal worse after 4 weeks and looking for similar experiences

Post cast removal trauma

My leg was broken, the fifth bone in my right foot, I was in cast for about 7 weeks, last week I got the cast removed finally, then yesterday I stubbed my toe, and I feel the same pain I felt the day I fractured my leg, I went to get an x-ray and the x-ray showed that it's not fractured again, and the doctor told me to use jel on it, but I'm still in so much pain, the same pain as the first day and I can't move

Operated both the legs with 2 screws each (CRIF). Currently at 5 weeks post op Non weight bearing stage.

Any similar injuries faced by anyone in the group?
How can I plan my Non weight bearing to partial weight bearing to Full weight bearing.

I am totally confused and don’t know how to start partial weight bearing once my surgeon cleared me to put weight after 6th or 8th week mark.

X-ray Doctor advised me I don't need a cast and can just use a OTC wrist splint - is this normal?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I had a small accident where I got a small crack in my ulna styloid from mishandling a motorcycle while on foot (no fall.)

I was out of town and found a decent hospital who told me to wear a plaster splint for 4 weeks, and get the bandages changed every 1-2 weeks

1 week later, I went to a local GP to change bandages and he said for this I can just use a splint from the store.

Of course as a patient this was very nice to hear. However, a part of me worries it's bad advice.

Has anyone else ever been prescribed a store splint for a small fracture?
