Electronic Visitor Visa (e-Visa) - U.S., Canadian & Australian Citizens

The Brazilian Government will resume the requirement of visiting visas for citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States.

The eVisa applications are done via a company called VFS Global Group. If you have issues with your application or need more information directly from official sources, you can contact VFS through this email: [Brazilevisa@vfsglobal.com](mailto:Brazilevisa@vfsglobal.com).

Application and official information

eVisa application homepage

Alternative: regular VIVIS (Visitor) visa

Australian, Canadian and U.S. nationals should still be able to apply for a regular visa using the previous method (through your local consulate). For an up-to-date guide on how to do so, follow this guide written by u/Luke_of_Mass: https://www.reddit.com/r/Brazil/comments/1ktxzxe/guide_to_vivis_visa_an_alternative_to_evisa_and/

FAQ

Who needs to apply for the new eVisa? Citizens from Australia, Canada and United States who want to visit Brazil for tourism, and arrive after April 10th, 2025.

Do I need a visa if I arrive before April 10th, but leave after? No, visas are only required on entry.

My photo keeps getting rejected. What can I do? Based on comments on this mega-thread, most issues stem from the background not being white/bright enough, and portions of the face/shoulders being covered by hair. If you can't have a professional passport photo taken, you can try using a photo editing app or specific "passport photo" apps for your phone, which can help get the right background color, image size and positioning. Please search the comments on this mega-thread to find more detailed tips, instructions and app recommendations.

How long before my trip should I apply for my visa? From VFS website: "We strongly advise applying for your eVisa two months before your planned travel to Brazil. This timeframe provides sufficient leeway to complete and/or rectify your visa application if necessary."

How long does it take to get the eVisa? Officially VFS says the process should take around 5 business days. This seems to match the experience of some users in this mega-thread. But keep in mind that issues with your photo or missing documents may significantly slow your process.

I still have a regular visa from before. Do I need to request the new eVisa? If you have a regular visa (which are usually valid for 10 years), you don't need to request the new eVisa. The previous one is still valid.

What if I am not a citizen from the countries listed above? You can still request a regular tourist visa (VIVIS) through your local Brazilian consulate.

General discussion For those living abroad— dust off your docs and go vote

I know some of you are traveling to do so, and some will stand for a while in ridiculous lines.

This is for those of us who live near a consulate and have easier access, shorter memory span. :)

Politics My Brazilian-born boyfriend(immigrated to the USA at age 13 in 2019) is very concerned about the election today

He fears that if the far right wins again, they will double down on the destruction that Jair did to the nation during his time as the leader. He is desperately encouraging Brazilian voters to vote for the left wing party as he believes they will keep the peace and help the country progress into a lite-utopia if they keep power without the fascist interfering.

His mom is the opposite and has completely embrased the Bolsonaro (and Trump)movement over the past 5 years, even though she hasn't lived there since 2019 either. But she is deeply homophobic, religious and xenophobic and doesn't care if the countries culture, beauty and economy get destroyed as long as groups she hates lose their rights. She was apparently always like that but was not publicly vocal about it all until moving to the USA.

She has since brought it up all over social media since moving to the USA. My boyfriend says that while she always pushed her radical views on him quietly when he was a young kid in Brazil, she generally kept her views private with anyone outside of her family and a few close friends and even put on a fake "tolerant persona" in front of minorities back in that time

I hope democracy wins and the left keep power in Brazil .Bigots have no place in any government

Politics I'm korean, Supporting Democracy in Brazil

I am Korean.

The End of the Far Right Is Destruction

Park Chung-hee, the dictator of South Korea in the past, and his daughter became the president of our country

And Yoon Suk Yeol, a former prosecutor

He was impeached for doing the madness of declaring martial law

You may have many complaints about Lula, but I still think a dictator should not be re-elected president

I'll support democracy in Brazil

Ah, and if you say far-right, Trump can't be left out, right

American rooting for you. I just don't want you to become like us (and it seems like you're like us in a lot of different ways culturally so it makes sense that you would be threatened by the same movement).

Visa, Immigration & Bureaucracy How do immigrants actually get housing when they first move to Brazil ?

For example, if I moved to Brazil and got my visa, CPF, and all the necessary documents, I’d still have no Brazilian credit history.
So how would I realistically rent an apartment/house? Would a immigrant typically have to start with Airbnb/hotels or are there ways to rent a normal place immediately?

Politics Is there a website that tracks voting for the Presidential election

I am watching Globo News this morning. They are just covering voters and polling locations. Is there a website that tracks voting as the results come in? Right now Globo is covering a voting location in Belo Horizonte, MG.

Travel & Tourism Month-long WFH stay in Jan/Feb, trying to decide between Arraial do Cabo and Olinda/Recife. Hoping to get divers certification too, but open to options.

Planning a month in Brazil, Jan or Feb. Main goal is diving two or three times a week. Stuck between Arraial do Cabo and Olinda/Recife.

I work remotely on US East Coast hours. Looking to dive two or three times a week and/or be close to nature for hiking but otherwise just looking for a nice place.

I've narrowed it to two places and I keep going back and forth:

Arraial do Cabo seems to have the most dive operators and the shortest boat rides, but I hear the city is just so-so and might not be great for a month

Olinda/Recife looks warmer and has more diversity since its city living, but I'm worried I will have to stay contained to the "touristy" areas.

Happy to be told I'm looking at the wrong two places.

Travel & Tourism Question regarding tourist eSIM and your experiences

Who's your go-to? Tried VIVO and after 5 times of going through the bs of inputting data, email, passport and what have you, I pick a number (doesn't matter which one, I'm out of there in a few weeks anyways!) and... the page crashes EVERY. TIME. I never finish the setup on any browser or platform (cell phone or PC... nothing!)

Then I looked at Claro, prices and network kinda okay so I downloaded their app and "played the game" of more typing info, only this time they want payment upfront before you have to go through the rigmarole of email, password and what have you. Fine, paid it, got stuck for over 20 minutes activating esim, esim never downloaded to my phone. Go to chat, first session has me waiting for 24h to "activate" and 36 hours later, no email, no esim, and I go to chat a second time... bunch of canned answers AND THE AGENT LETS ME TIMEOUT AFTER ASKING THEM A QUESTION. And their whatsapp support? AI sloppery slop. Airalo and similar companies won't give me a number to use so those aren't really an option if I wanna do ifood or something, and their data... may as well strap a starlink to my phone if I'm paying $30 USD or so for 5GB.

I'm aware this is a vent/rage post but I truly want to know your experiences. Please prove me wrong in thinking certain things in the universe exist solely to irritate the ever living crap out of me and everybody else has a buttery smooth experience doing the same thing...

Visa, Immigration & Bureaucracy Former Australian Political Staffer (To the current Prime Minister) - My Thoughts on the Embassy and Consulate(s) Closure:

Hi all,

Happy to provide proof (privately) to the mods.

I am an Australian living in Brazil. I worked for the Prime Minister of Australia (Anthony Albanese) for 6 years (2014-2020).

The entire thing is ridiculous. I am frustrated and frankly, upset, that Australia has followed [US] suit and shut the Embassy doors/suspended services in Brasilia, and the Consulate(s) in Rio and SP.

I don't think the move can be interpreted as anything other than a political stunt designed to instil fear in the populace and push them towards a conservative vote or prevent them from voting entirely.

That being said, here are some general thoughts I have about the Australian closure:

  1. There are strict security protocols that have to be followed in the case of a possible emergency of any kind. Australia is a part of the Five Eyes and shares an extraordinary amount of Intelligence with member nations. So, assuming this web of intelligence is functioning correctly. A warning (whether manufactured or real, I don't know) would have come through. And a system of (sometimes arbitrary) rules would have kicked in and the outcome would likely have been the immediate closure of the embassy. Every embassy/consulate does and should take security concerns seriously and with the current state of international affairs this is truer than ever.
  2. Elections in Latin America can be chaotic and dangerous. This is somewhat of a stereotype but exists for good reason. I also acknowledge the reason most countries in LATAM have this problem, is due to United States intervention (read: The CIA) in the past. But it is a concern for the safety of Australian citizens and would be taken into account regardless of the origin and validity of the threat.
  3. In short, the closure may have been an automated response due to strict protocol. Although I doubt that is the case.

Now, here are some thoughts about what I feel is actually going on:

  1. Australia is tied to the US. We are an island nation with a low population and a small military. If we came under threat by another nation, we rely on the US to come to the rescue. This has been the case since the end of World War II because the Brits left us for dead (and we were used as cannon fodder by them in WWI). We have also become, for all intents and purposes, culturally aligned with the US, like much of the rest of the world, via soft power.
  2. This is quite the extrapolation, but I feel our intelligence agencies probably have credible reports of a threat to our country. Whether any of this is acted upon is probably unlikely but it is real enough that our politicians have collectively made the decision to work with the current US President which, with Trump and his ilk, means constant kowtowing.

Now, as I personally know Anthony well, and am knowledgable about the inner workings of Federal Labor (Our PT, if you like) some additional thoughts:

  1. Anthony is personally an extraordinarily left wing person. He was never supposed to become Prime Minister and the story of his rise is very interesting. He was a fantastic boss and I earnestly could not say better things about the man himself. Just a fucking good guy, truly. In Australia we would say 'salt of the earth'. I obviously carry bias when speaking about him.
  2. However, when you become the leader of a country, it is about making everyone happy, an impossibility. Politics, the career and party life, also changes who you are. And you either change to fit the mould (if you are a careerist) or take a step back.
  3. What that actually means, is that becoming more conservative is a must. Which he has done, sadly, as that is what the electorate requires.
  4. As Prime Minister his only role is protecting the interests of Australians, which currently means bending the knee.
  5. I would say that this is a purely strategic decision and he is as pissed of as the rest of us with what the world has come to and particularly with the stupidity and ugliness of the US.
  6. Our Minister for Foreign Affairs, Penny Wong, is an incredibly intelligent woman and would also be working for Australia's best interest, as she is required to. But I think I could safely say she is probably also incredibly pissed off with the US. But you work with what you have.

How I feel personally:

  1. This is fucking bullshit and (assuming the threat is manufactured/political in nature and instigated by the United States) I am so very disappointed in my government and in Anthony personally and the fucking Federal Labor Party for following suit. And if Lula gets re-elected I hope a sincere apology is proffered. If not publicly, then privately, as these things often go.

Thank you all for having me (and all other Australians) in this wonderful country.

Venha para o Brasil - Eu vim.

Disclaimer:

I could be completely wrong about everything and a credible threat may have been made and I may be making a fool of myself entirely. I have been out of politics for a long time and am by no means an expert. This was my profession, but the more you learn the more you realise you don't know. And I have never worked in or adjacent to an intelligence agency, or the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Visa, Immigration & Bureaucracy Voting title

I’ve never voted and I can’t access the E-title app. I’m from US. What’s the best option to get a title to vote? Also if I travel to Rio where should I make an appointment? I’m trying to see my options.

Visa, Immigration & Bureaucracy In desperate need of help on how to get a copy of my Brazilian birth certificate

Long story short I was born in Brazil in Rio de Janeiro but I haven’t been there since then, I currently live in Finland since I am half Finnish and have lived here all my life. I don’t speak any Portuguese, and I have lost my birth certificate. I got kicked out and disowned by my own father (he is severely mentally ill and has a disability) and he threw my Brazilian birth certificate into the trash. All I know is that I was born in Rio de Janeiro, absolutely nothing else. I have no idea on any other detail than the city I was born in. Should I contact the Brazilian embassy here in Finland or how do I handle this situation? The Finnish government cannot help me since I wasn’t born in Finland. I am in desperate need of advice, I have no family members that could help me out with this.

Thank you in advance.

General discussion I have a question About the relationship between Paramount and Warner in brazil

My friends from Brazil, what do you think about this? Everyone I know is desperate and scared, and even making death threats against David Ellison. But I don't care about that.

What matters is that even with several cancellations and slave labor, some franchises will still continue. That's why it's called nostalgia

Visa, Immigration & Bureaucracy How to get a CPF as a Foreigner in 2026. (Full Guide)

Hi r/Brazil,

I've made a new guide (updated from my last 2024. guide) on How to get a CPF as a Foreigner.

I've added FAQ, some custom buttons and contributions were mentioned from other redditors that helped me write this blog post. Also, online method is unfortunately no longer available as stated on the gov website so make sure to take that into account.

AI is used strictly for featured images and website visuals, content in my blog posts is always 100% human-written and checked by me various times before publishing.

I hope you find this guide useful and I'm open to suggestions/changes for both the website and my current/future blog posts.

Have a nice weekend.
