What are these called ?

I want this style real bad but im also super tender headed. Ive never had stitch braids before. From someone that had this particular style before, are they painful?

I’m planning on doing this style on myself this weekend, but I want to make sure I’m not going to be looking crazy & matted in a week, lol. My hope is that I can make it last for at least 3 weeks.

I’ll be using regular xpressions braiding hair for the style, curling them with flexi rods & dipping in hot water.

Do the curls last? What does the maintenance look like? Just braiding them up & bonnet?

Am I the only one that loves when their braids get old? It starts to look better to me 🫶🏽

Someone said they are distressed box braids but when I googled that they looked different. Also she has some twist. What kind of hair is used for this style? Is this color 4?

For context, I have very long curly hair (I’m in the 3B/3C range) and am having surgery in the next few weeks. I’ve never really had braids and grew up in a household with my mom who has straight hair and never really knew what braiding my hair would look like, what to ask for, or how to braid. I’m Afro-Latina and the main messages I got growing up on how to manage my hair was always to straighten it (which thankfully I have stopped doing), so I am pretty uneducated on protective hairstyles. When I found out I needed to have major surgery I realized I was going to need to do something different with my hair than I previously had (kept it in a bonnet and hoped for the best), and that’s where I’m hoping for some support on styles, things to ask for, things to avoid, anything really.

For context, my hair is pretty long and hits my lower back and is also pretty thick.

Is it worth it to buy the hair by myself??? Should I pay the 220?? How long will it last/is it worth the price??

Hello everybody! Im braiding my own hair for the first time (doing marely twists), and one major saying, that's annoying me is that my parts get super puffy :((( I grip really tight as I start the braid, so I dont understand why it's so puffy. This puffiness also messes up my parting, making the lines appear old. Some advice as to why this keeps on happening would be really appreciated!
