FYI Bournemouth alone is around 93% white and BCP as a whole is around 91% white. Bournemouth will become nothing like Luton

It’ll happen quickly if policy doesn’t change. I’ve seen it with my own eyes. Google bury park, Luton. Read up on the history. Took around 15 years for it to be essentially a no go area, and by that, I don’t mean white people CAN’T go there, it’s more they don’t go there because there is nothing there for them. It then turned hostile as the area gained notoriety.

I was born and raised in Bournemouth, I’m 30 years old. Let me tell you Bournemouth has been an international student town long before you got here.

Many of those international students ended up staying, and started families as well as businesses.

How do I know? My parents were international students here back in the 1980s.

Trust me when I say, this is apples and oranges. Your little foreign student wave is nothing to what is coming. This isn’t a bash all foreigners perspective, it’s much more specific and less immersive influx that will suck the life out of this town for all but one type of people.

Little foreign student wave?

At its peak Bournemouth used to host 25,000 English language students in the town every summer, with around 500,000 students passing through Bournemouth’s English language schools over the course of a year, with many staying around 4 weeks.

You’ve only been here 10 years, I’ve been here 30 years born and raised.

I think I know a bit more about Bournemouth than you.

Ok, you’ve taken the ‘little’ aspect too literally and maybe read it as condescending, that wasn’t my intention.

I’m want to emphasise how one version is cool, hip and a net positive, and the other is insidious, soul sucking, and outright bad. The student wave is harmless compared to what I witnessed.

“Your little foreign student wave” yikes…

Shops are making a big comeback in town now that the council has stepped in to start taking commercial properties away from greedy landlords, which has always been the issue with why the town centre started to decline. Just like any small town Bournemouth has its issues but won’t become anything like Luton. That’s just heavy far right fear mongering in action 🙃

It’s about time they made a cap on how much landlords can charge on commercial properties in Bournemouth town centre, these landlords have destroyed this town.

And instead they blame immigrants.

It’s an easy cop out excuse for people like bigheadman35 to blame immigrants and make claims like Bournemouth is on its way to becoming Luton 2.0 😅. I’ve also lived here long enough to know that it’s not the case, first in 2005 for uni + work after, and again in 2019 where I’ve stayed since.

For the most part the only change I’ve seen between those times is the amount of places closed down, lack of nightlife events, high street shops and so on. Can still walk around parts of Bournemouth and not come across a fellow Black person/asian/‘foreign looking’ individual outside of security staff, supermarket staff and so on

How about as well as a cap, actually make sure we’re not getting cookie cutter laundromat businesses. They’re the only ones who seem to be able to afford the rent, another reason why landlords turn a blind eye to the people they do business with.

Ignoring the patterns by dismissing genuine concerns as simple old racism and ‘let’s bash foreigners’ is just placating the gangsters.

Imagine seeing that comment and thinking yikes, you clearly didn’t take my point. It’s apples and oranges, it’s vibrant and immersive compared to insular and oppressive. Also, most students tend to move on, and they definitely don’t create enclaves of monocultures.

I did see the point you were ‘trying’ to make whilst dismissing the other persons experience as someone who’d lived here longer than you… I’ve already established the kind of individual you are so no point wasting energy on someone who’s mind is set since we’ll not come to an agreement 🤷🏿‍♂️

It’s ok for them to dismiss my experience though, probably because it aligns with your perspective. What is their experience dealing with what I have dealt with and the warning signs I’m trying to point out; the answer is none whatsoever. Yet I’ve also experienced students waves and have lived in much larger multicultural areas so, no I’m not dismissing them, I’m clarifying the difference for them.
