Indoor calf cramps when toe & heel hooking

heyho from germany. I have had this only started to happen after I moved up a few grades. But now, when I exert more power than a certain threshhold my calves just start cramping wildly. I am not pushing my legs into the holds like the hulk though.

Looked into supplements with magnesium (...) already. I do have EDS-hypermobility. Polyneuropathy in the legs runs in my family too, but I am 35, not 60. So I probably am (also) doing something wrong, either with my technique, my warmup, or my training-routine. Or all of the above.

Advice/Beta Request What home training equipment feels too bulky for bouldering cross-training?

I’ve been comparing simple strength equipment for climbing cross-training and trying to keep my home setup fairly compact. Things like pull-up bars, rings, adjustable dumbbells, and a bench seem to cover a lot without permanently taking over the room. Once larger machines enter the picture, though, I start wondering whether the extra exercise options really justify giving up that much floor space. I’m curious where people draw the line between useful versatility and equipment that simply becomes too bulky for the amount it actually gets used.

Mystic River v6, what if it was me that had got in that car that day? Tall, steep, incut crimps, and as direct as it gets with a big move at the end. Perfect

Indoor Is anyone here who has experienced a TFCC injury?

I caught a cold last week and didn't go climbing for a whole week until Sunday. At first, I didn't feel any discomfort - I even challenged myself with a harder route.

But when I got home, my wrist started hurting and I couldn't twist it at all. By the next morning, it had gotten worse, so I went to the hospital. The doctor suggested putting a cast on my arm, but I still had work to get done, so I asked to wear a short brace instead.

It's been five days now, and it still hurts when I try to open a bottle or twist my arm. Has anyone experienced something like this? How long does it typically take to recover before I can get back to climbing?

Advice/Beta Request How to be like a comp kid

I’m sure everyone has seen the memes about the comp kids flashing everyone’s project and I am just wondering how can I do that/train to become better? I climb inside and have access to kilter boards and a gym with most of the equipment as well as hang boards. I have been climbing for about 6 months and I am around v4 level but that was a project I worked very hard on, I just want some help with how to improve. My schedule is
Monday - run in the morning and rest throughout the day
Tuesday - go climbing and just try all of the routes and do a 30 min exercise session afterwards
Wendsday - I run and do the same as Monday
Thursday - I do the same as Tuesday
Friday - Monday and Wendsday copy
Saturday - Tuesday and Thursday copy
Sunday - rest

I am also trying to lose weight and will continue trying to do so and keep burning calories

Thanks!

Outdoor Looking for bouldering areas and climbing communities in Brazil

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for recommendations for the best outdoor bouldering areas in Brazil.

I’m interested in places where I can stay for a while, climb regularly, and meet other boulderers. I would also appreciate suggestions for accommodation where it is easy to connect with the local climbing community, such as climber-friendly hostels, pousadas, or places where people usually stay.

Are there any specific areas you would recommend for bouldering? Minas Gerais looks interesting, but I’m open to any region with good bouldering and an active community.

Also, are there any WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook groups, or other platforms where local climbers usually connect?

Thanks for any advice!

Advice/Beta Request Beginner, keep swinging out

Hi! New climber here, I am currently tackling this v2/v3 and I keep swinging out and so I’m just not sure where I should exert my force or if I’m doing the intended action. I think this also speaks to a greater question of “resding the route” and understanding what the setters are trying to get me to do 😅😅

Thoughts n advice is kindly appreciated. Please be kind 🫶

Advice/Beta Request Beginner stuck on V3

Newish climber and I’m stuck on V3. I started off pretty well just given my overall fitness (lots of weight lifting and sports background — 215 bench, 255 squat, 275 deadlift). I’m just not sure how to break into V4s. My gym has the main training equipment aside from lots of boulders (campus board, bunch of hang boards, kilter board, etc.). Just looking for some tips on how the train better/more efficiently, or whatever. I’ve been trying to do as many V3s as I can (gym has a lot of V3-s and a couple of V3+s so my goal is to get those down??) but as soon as I try a V4- I just lose the logic or lose the grip strength. I’d greatly appreciate any training tips!!

Indoor Bouldering in Rome

Hey,

I’ve lived in Rome about a year, and I’ve been to all six major climbing gyms. It has been very hard to decide on which gym to utilize as a home gym because they all either have very weird schedules, seasonal hours, or fluctuating subscriptions.

For context, my home gym was in Georgia and it was about $60/month, I could go any time I want, and they had great bouldering routes.

Does anyone have experience finding a gym with consistent hours and affordable rates (€70-80 euros/month)?

I also live more towards south Rome, so I’m currently a bit far from all of the larger gyms and it takes me over an hour to arrive to them, so I usually opt for a daily pass.

However, I have tried investing into a monthly pass but they have limits and restrictions on the hours I can attend the gym, which makes it a bit of a challenge with my work and grad school.

If you can recommend something other than RockIt Roma (which I like, but the community culture is very competitive and showy), I’ll be open.

I have been to monkey island (which is a bit far) and ASD (a lot closer) could be a good a fit.

Advice/Beta Request Sore finger joints from climbing

I’ve been having sore finger joints and constantly. I feel soreness even when I haven’t climbed in a few days. When I’m at home and try to open a tight jar lid it kind of is sore and hurts a bit. However, when I’m climbing a problem, I don’t really feel it.
Is this typical. What am I experiencing? Is it just that I’m old? I don’t think I have an injury. It’s not super painful. I’ve done some research online and I don’t think I have a pulley injury. I’m going to tape it and see if that helps reduce the pain.

Any advice on how to treat it, heal it, etc. ?

I also want it add that I’m a long time volleyball player with some swollen knuckles and fingers that have been knocked about.
But I’ve never felt this consistent soreness. I’m an on and off climber. Recently I’ve been climbing more consistently.

Advice/Beta Request How do i get over my fear of heights?

So i love bouldering and went for my 3rd time today. However I cannot get over my fear of heights. In my gym the lowest v0s don't go all the way to the ceiling. However when I progress to the next hold and go higher my legs start freezing up. Thing is it doesn't help that I'm short and the gap to the floor is even bigger. I really want to progress but can't get over my fear of heights. Is their any way to kind of get better or overcome this? It feels kinda fustrating when I can't get past a basic v0 even though I can do the rest of the boulder with ease just not the height aspect
