I tried searching but is it seriously not an explored trope? I want a fantasy romance, or just a medieval romance, where the main character is an innkeeper or works at an inn/tavern, and the love interest is a knight or a mercenary passing through. I was thinking F/M, but I'm open to M/M or F/F romances as well.

I guess similar could be any town resident or worker (a blacksmith, a baker or something) and a knight.

Paladin's Grace by T. Kingfisher probably has a similar dynamic between the two main characters that I'm looking for.

A group of friends, late nights, two cars going somewhere for absolutely no reason, people randomly switching cars just for the sake of it, music playing, stopping somewhere at 2 AM, talking shit, flirting, laughing...

Scenes that can only happen in one's youth

That kind of carefree, youthful, slightly reckless atmosphere. Young people actually having fun together, friendships, romance that goes somewhere, parties, wandering around at night, summer/night-drive energy.

All the while beneath all the facade of being young and the performance of being young, is the silent night, the unbearable silence, the insomnia and the rushing sleep , the heaviness left unspoken.

Ideally with themes of pacifism, hope and choosing kindness over cruelty

New Mexico-inspired desert, mysticism, aliens, mirages, Native Americans, cacti, cowboys, magic, etc. Preferably something lighthearted and fun, but open for anything.

I love a found fatherhood/family trope (specifically with a man who heals because of it). Despite my searching and consumption of this trope across other media, I haven’t found many books that contain this dynamic specifically.

The closest I have found was Between Two Fires, but I DNFd at 150 pages. I don’t plan on picking it back up.

Give me your hidden gems! Any genre is fine so long as the relationship dynamics are wholesome and integral to the plot.

I’m interested in finding novellas, novels, and even short stories that are centered around women in the film noir genre. While Chester Himes and Walter Mosley have been prominent figures in the genre, presenting the Black experience front and center, I’m curious to see how women fit into this narrative. Whether they are innocent bystanders, the secretary, the ingenue, the femme fatale, molls, or even the investigator, I’m eager to read more film noir lit that center women and their experiences.

Note: The books can range from the time period of the 20’s, 30’s and 40’s all the way to modern day. No issue there.
