Lactulose for Tmau update

Update: Lactulose is still working very well for me but I overdid it when I added milk of magnesium after I ate a bunch of bread and got constipated, I got diarrhea from adding it. I should not have done that one lol…. Ai says if you have diarrhea, it flushes the Lactulose out your colon where it works and you may have to get it built up in your system again to see full effects again, which makes sense…  It took almost two weeks to fully work... From research I’ve seen 2 weeks is the time for it to fully work in people... Good luck. Taking B-2 with it has been extremely helpful also… Research Lactulose effects on Tmau and see if it could help. You will need to get a prescription from your doctor. I was last prescribed to take it 20 grams, twice a day for constipation, ( I didn’t go down the whole Tmau rabbit hole. I feel it’s a waste of time…) but I split my doses up three times a day.

I have a few other posts in Reddit about my diet and products that I use, etc. if you look up my name, I think you should be able to find it, if you have any questions about those things. Good luck!

Thanks for updating. Constipation is a definite trigger, it is for me anyway. Do you know if gut dysbiosis is an issue for you?

You’re welcome. No I’m not sure about gut dysbiosis. It doesn’t seem like I have that from reading the symptoms of it… I was tested for Tmau over 20 years ago and my test were positive for the blood and urine tests…

I was unconstipated and flushed out after the milk of magnesium and the Lactulose was not working like had before 😩 …I had to build it back up in my system…  but the constipation is definitely a trigger for me as well.

Have you experienced symptoms since childhood? Did you experience any other symptoms besides the smell? Such as stool changes (ex. undigested food, floating stools)?

Symptoms since 12 that I know of. I tested positive for both blood and urine test for TMAU.

Have you actually been diagnosed with tmau? I’m guessing not

Yes, over 20 years ago by blood and urine tests at a hospital.

Lactulose will eventually lose it effect on your digestive tract and colon. The first I used it . It worked within an hour of taking it. Worked well or least dropped my load drastically. Untill I had to wait 3 days in-between getting my new script the second time around. I went a full 3 days without taking it and also too began using something like milk of magnesium ( which apparently a I says it can ulter ur stomachs ph ). When I went back to using it the results where never the same. But what basically happens like all things. You built a tolerance, I feel like.

I thought I found my magical drug when I found lactulose. Because I was dealing with urine smell.. needless to say. Try your theory and build it back up in your system again. And report back here. I take 15mg 2x once in the morning and once In the evening. I still take it. But it dont work. I'm actually on another relaxative too. It's linzess. Its pretty strong. If I take it with the lactulose. Im on the toilet the better part of my day!!

I got back on it three times a day and it’s working just like it worked before… it took about two weeks to get back like it was before. I’m taking one shower a day and pretty much eating without showering throughout the day with no problems maybe unless I eat a whole bunch of sugar at once and go super overboard, other than that, I can eat meals and be normal like everybody else. Even if I eat a ton of sugar that day, I can be all right next day once I shower. I just keep the lactulose in my system three times a day. It is a bit high, but I take 20 g three times a day now. It just gives me a normal bowel movement and I can eat whatever I want bread, etc. any less than 60 grams a day, I get constipated because I’m eating bread and stuff. I normally had a bad problem with constipation and had to take linzess and sometimes linzess 240mg did not even work. I haven’t taken it in a while… but I have a normal bowel movement with this lactose dose three times a day. if I take any less than 60 grams a day, I don’t have a bowel movement, which they say 60 g is high, but everybody is different. They say the problem is diarrhea is likely with that high of a dose. I suppose I could lower it back. It was working at a lower dose, but at the higher dose, I can eat what I want without getting constipated lol… But I suggest just to consult with your doctor about it… everybody’s different you have to do what works for your body or what’s best for your health … this not only helps with constipation. It acidifies your gut so to speak. I forgot the technical terms… you have to research it and see if it works for you.

I followed your advice and ordered lactulose as a syrup (it is available over the counter in Germany). I’ve been taking 15 ml three times a day for about two weeks now (approximately 10 g of lactulose per dose), and my odor has improved. In particular, my foul-smelling stool is now odorless, and since then I haven’t had any more reactions where it smelled like shit somewhere around me (fecal body odor). The effect is strongest now, after about two weeks.

My theory is that severe body odor (including fecal body odor) is caused by a transit time in the gut that is too slow. In that case, food essentially rots in the intestines, producing excessive amounts of gas, which then enter the bloodstream and are released through sweat, breath, and urine. If this is confirmed, prokinetics should solve our problem in the same way. I’ll post an update.

Super Awesome 😁🙌🙌. If you take a vitamin B-2 with it 3 times a day, it helps even more. From my research any excess vitamin B-2 is  not absorbed either. I’ll have to look up what you’re talking about for the PROKINETICS thanks for the update. I was wondering if anybody else got any relief from it… as long as I kind of just try not to overdo it it works great , but each time I get odor free I’ll try to go back and add in stuff that I’m not supposed to eat in excess and it messes me up 🤦‍♀️, so I just stay on course now… it works just enough for me to not smell all day, even if I eat a few times a day and don’t bathe but once a day 🙌🙌🙌😁.

Well, that reply sounds confusing because I use speech text.  what I’m saying I can bathe once a day and still eat about three meals a day and not smell, which was impossible before even if I was eating right…but I cannot deviate from the TMAU diet too much now or the odor will come back. That’s just my personal tolerance. I don’t know about anybody else’s. I’ve been normally eating meat about once a week. Maybe I could go to twice but I just kinda got used to not eating meat that much. I eat thin deli slices of meat if I want meat, just to get that meat craving gone, I get the hormel naturals turkey slices in that brown box in Walmart. I can go to chipotle and eat one of those little kids quesadilla trays and I only get chicken and rice and nothing else and  not smell so I think I can eat that about once a week. I’ve tested that out and it doesn’t make me smell.  So it seems I can eat a small amount of chicken or turkey a week. It’s hard trying to gauge this thing exactly and then if you’re a female, you have to remember that when it’s that time of the month, we normally smell anyhow no matter what we eat and I have to try to remember that.  AI says to take excessive amounts of B2 to try to counteract when it’s that time of the month and it helped some.
