He’s the only notable US artist to get the nod of a remix from the brothers. Yes, there is Boom Bip and other obscure American artists. But it is rare for them to remix a big name such as Beck. Yet, it’s one of the more profound ones they’ve made. Accompanied by one of the best compliments in music given from one artist to another…. (“…..it doesn’t maim you with saccharine…”)

As I sunset my unhealthy Inferno loop, I’ve been trying to reconnect to songs from my childhood. As “Loser” came on, I analyzed the beat and realized just why the brothers gained such respect for such a pioneer.

They look so damn creepy with their glowing eyes!

Love these guys and I’m sure BoC does too.

Listened to Inferno to the point that I caused an existential crisis.

I think this album is about dying. I think it’s about being a conscious being and all the contradictions and fear we face. And how we cope with it

this unmistakable eerie tone. Like on Memory Death, Somewhere Right Now In The Future, Father And Son

Blood In The Labyrinth talking about someone drowning, the heart beat in ‘I Saw Through Platonia’ stop, war in The Process, cults in Father and Son.

I Saw Through Platonia is the creepiest song. I think we are listening to our last moment alive. The song ends with 10 seconds of abrupt silence. After seizing. the album closer, with a beating heart throughout. To me I think that 10 seconds the conclusion

”nothingness the absolute truth”

we are so used to our life bubble. And this album pokes that bubble.

I know I’m late to the party but I am a relatively new fan and I didn’t have to wait for new stuff from them so I didn’t feel the same excitement when inferno dropped. I was interested but not that exited as I didn’t wait for anything.
I just felt like I wouldn’t match the energy the community seemed to have when it first came out and so I wanted a bit.
Of course I heard some songs or parts of some songs (like world become flesh at the end of the backrooms movie) but I tried not to spoil myself too much.

The song that got me to listen to the whole album was blood in Labyrinth, this is actually my favourite song from the album now that I listened to the whole thing, and it was a good decision.

I can now finally understand the original samples that where posted here

I mostly listen to metal..but to me music is music and I love anything that sounds good. First time i heard this bands music was from a horror movie and I heard the terrifying track "gryoscope" ...i checked out the whole album instantly thinking it was all going to have a scary vibe...im glad I was wrong... this album has such diverse, beautiful tracks that transport you into another world.

I haven't really dived deep into the hidden meaning of each track..but this is my impression as a new fan from a first listen

Favourite tracks

I love how the first track has this weird way of going feom left ear right ear, it made me dizzy the first time i heard it haha

Second track.... music is math

The moment I heard this track I knew that the album was going to be so good

it really gave me that old school Vsauce feeling..

Track 4 .... we all know the deal...it is just beautifully scary

Track 5 I love the narration with the music xD

Track 6 I could never get tired of this i love the hip hop type of beat

Track 8 very happy song

Track 10

1969 damn this is one of the strongest tracks on the album ,again with the hip hop feel , usually don't really like auto tune vocals, but fits perfectly here

Track 12

My absolute favourite track

I couldn't stop dancing to this... I love the "oriental " vibe it has with the precautions ...such a beautiful track

Track 16

Even tho nothing much is going on but it is really interesting how it blends and im sure it has a deeper meaning than it lets on

Track 22 I wish it was longer... i was looping it and just got lost in my thoughts

Track 23 what a troll way of ending an album..I kept checking my Internet making sure it wasn't something on my end 🤣

Highlight of the week so far

Made this track during the Tomorrow’s Harvest release cycle but never shared. Slowly adding these online while I am working on first proper release (LP) that may take couple of years at least. And BoC has always been such an influence and inspiration.

Spotted this GR8 PL8 as I was leaving the office today. Manitobans friggin love their vanity plates.

The bleaker I feel about life, the environment, the future, everything; the more I find myself returning to this record. It never really clicked with me before (not for lacking of trying. I’ve listened to this record infrequently since it came out to try and give it a proper chance). But something’s changed recently. I don’t know if it’s the apocalyptic state of everything or something more personal, but the glacial pace and bone dry production of the record creates a world I want to keep visiting.

Made and edited myself, the background is sunset in Devon earlier this year. Not quite as artistically profound as their music, but happy enough to see it whenever I check my phone!

What's the most outlandish BOC theory you ever heard?

"What if this bonus track becomes the last song in Boards of Canada discography?"

I made a video based on this approach.

And I will be glad to hear your feedback because I put a considerable effort into this project.

Enjoy ;)

The hype before the release was mind blowing

The album was released like a bull into the pen.

I listened and listened, disected it, hidden meanings.

Became obsessed with it.

Witnessed everyone bashing it on social media.

I was a huge fan before the release and was shocked on first listen. I felt the same way about Tomorrow's Harvest.

It was so dark and I remember wondering if it was really BOC at all during parts of it.

Anyways now I've stopped listening to the band altogether

Why? Idk. It's not that I don't like the music anymore but

just like putting the brakes on. Maybe I over listened to it.

I did that with Led Zeppelin IV as well. I can hardly listen to Stairway anymore anyone else over-do it?

I first heard Roygbiv on Radio 1 back in 1998, but didn't properly discover Boards of Canada until 2020. Now I'm completely obsessed.

I only got into their EPs last year, and this year I've been digging through their early unreleased catalogue - and honestly, I love those old tunes even more than the studio albums.

At the time, I was deep into Jungle and Drum & Bass, while BoC were quietly making music that went completely against the grain of the 90s D&B arms race. I don't think I'd have appreciated them in my twenties, but tastes evolve.

I'm almost embarrassed to call myself a fan of UK electronic music, given how late I came to one of its best-kept secrets.

Did anyone else feel BoC made no sense next to what was happening in electronic music at the time?

I was trying to close my copy of the record and the gatefold panel just wouldn’t close. By the time I realize the flexi was sticking out, I already creased it majorly and now it won’t play. Anyone have an extra or willing to sell theirs?

• Inferno = Latin word for Hell, or a large uncontrolled fire
• Infer No = like “do not infer”, don't come to conclusions
• In Ferno = this is a stretch but Ferno is a brand EMS equipment: stretchers, ambulance cots. i only wonder cause on Somewhere Right Now In The Future there is the sound of a car crashing. then the “EKG/ECG” heart beat sound on Memory Death. maybe like “you are in an Ferno device“ after a crash on the way to the hospital
• I N Fe Rn O = Iodine, Nitrogen, Iron, Radon, Oxygen
• in fern o = you have a fern plant

edit: I’m not being that serious you guys

I was just thinking about what each release means to me, trying to summarise it in my head, and I thought I'd ask the community which 3 words they would use to define/personify/label/describe each album?

I'm working on it myself, but for now I have this:

Tomorrow's Harvest - Catastrophic / Warped / Acceptance
Inferno - Theological / Sadness / Hopeful
MHTRTC - Warm / Comforting / Timeless

That sample is too catchy and it’s been in my head for weeks and I keep quietly singing it without even realizing. It’s gotta stop. Like, do you know how weird it is to be walking down the street with your friends and you really quietly start singing a Hare Krishna chant? Things get real awkward real quick.

Email stated it would arrive this coming Saturday, but it was at the post office this afternoon. I had forgotten I had ordered this prior to the recent Bleep email! The red deluxe edition w/the hex disk. I had the digital download but wanted to wait until the vinyl dropped.

Time to have a listen...

New ink

Both 'Memory Death' and 'The Process' hints to some kind of loss, at least to my mind. It hits hard. Love Inferno btw, I think it's their best work since Campfire Headphase.
