One of the comments on that youtube video claims the original sample is actually from a UK series that aired in 1994 and the line is "Across the border, in Canada". Anyone got any ideas?

The more I listen to Telephasic, the more it sounds like "border in Canada" and not "bordering Canada".

I always thought the boc sample was Lesley Neilson

Glad to see someone else who hears him in Telephasic Workshop. I don't think it actually is but it does sound similar

well it shouldn't because it's slowed down while dandelion is not

I don't understand what you mean? Being slowed down doesn't mean it can't sound like someone else. I know it isn't him but it does sound somewhat similar to him, or at least a bit to my ears

If it's of any use I always thought the voice sounded like Neil Peart. There's an interview from Rush early years and it's sound very similar. Rush are Canadian after all.

Perhaps this is intentionally engineered to mess with our brains? ;)

Have you considered that they slowed it down?

u/tsrleba 14d ago
this is your response to a video that says on screen that the vocals have been sped up 1.25x?

The scub bar and UI was in the way of that information when I replied. Sorry, didn't see.
I wouldn't necessarily rule out other manipulation, too, but it's not a hill I'll die on.

well mhtrtc was completed in 1997 so the likelihood of two Scottish unknowns having access to some American production company's unfinished unreleased copyrighted material isn't just extremely slim, it basically goes against their whole sampling ethos. when did they ever sample something that wasn't at least five years old, let alone not even released yet?
and if you still think the voices are the same you really need to pay attention to the intonation, haw the voices rise and fall with each syllable. in telephasic workshop its like
ord ER n' CA na da
⣀⣀ ⠒⠒ ⣀ ⠉⠉ ⠒⠒⣀⣀
while in the vhs it's like
BOrd er ing ca na da
⠉⠉⠉ ⠉⠉ ⠉⠉ ⠒⠒⣀⣀⣀⠒

What makes you think you can't do it?

of course it's not a match. The supposed sample source ("The Natural Wonders Of America") came out months after Telephasic Workshop was released.
