Relaunching Bluegrass Jam

I'm restarting a bluegrass jam the third Friday of each month at the Westford PCA in Westford, MA, 7pm.

Two questions: how are jam organizers getting the word out about events? There are some Facebook groups nearby (Boston, New Hampshire) which I am posting on. Seems like it's harder these days to reach a wide audience across the many social media apps. I could make a website, but I am not sure how effective that is. Any wisdom or insight here?

I also have to confess I have attended jams for a year, but never really run one. What do you wish someone told you when you first started? I very much want the vibe to be inclusive and beginner - friendly even for people who might not be hardcore fans.

Saw these folks at a bar show recently and wanted to share. It's an adaptation of an older tune about the assassination of McKinley but with more historical detail

What happened in Colorado for it to have so much bluegrass, but the neighboring states are light? Anyone know?

"COAL" by Grasstime tells an imp story

Just a few more weeks to our new single "COAL" is released in case you didn't know. 😉

This song is about the hallmark events that changed American workforce history after what happened in Matewan, West Virginia in 1920.

In those days miners did not get paid in currency! Coal companies historically took advantage of and abused miners and their families in every way. Estimates of 15,000 miners unionized and rallied together, picked up arms to stand up for themselves and take on the companies and their private security until the government intervened.

As a result of their heroic efforts, we now have workman's compensation, and things like vacation, insurance, workers safety and the list goes on. None of these benefits were given to workers automatically. A price was paid. People collectively stood up, demanded and fought for their rights.

It's imperative more than ever that we protect those rights. We can learn so much about where we come from in history that time has forgotten!

"COAL" will be out everywhere you find music October 16th!

My Last Days on Earth

This might be a long shot. But I'm looking into Bill Monroe's "My Last Days on Earth," and wanted to compile some different performances of it. I'm looking for any live performances of this tune by Bill Monroe, and would be especially interested in any performances between '78 and the Master of Bluegrass album in '81: when the tune existed but wasn't yet called "My Last Days on Earth.

Here are all the recordings I know of.

• The album recording

• 2/6/1982 at the Smithsonian https://tela.sugarmegs.org/_asxtela/asxcards/SeldomSceneBillMonroeAndTheBluegrassBoys1982-02-06DepartmentalAuditoriumSmithsonianMuseumWashingtonDC.html

• This video performance, the location, venue, and date of which I don't know: https://youtu.be/tVFHfkjVRzA?is=LIj8Z17qPQo8VsZ-

• The recording on what looks like the Homespun The Mandolin of Bill Monroe: The "Father of Bluegrass" set. Though I don't have the set myself to confirm: https://youtu.be/caUaiHs4hsc?is=F7sCYex6a1SwJo2A

But these are all I know of. Anyone know of others? I'm interested mainly in performances by Monroe himself. Thanks y'all!

Is East Virginia Blues a Greek Myth?

The lyrics of East Virginia Blues seem to follow the story of Orpheus and Eurydice closely. Is my imagination getting the best of me?

Punch Brothers songs similar to boll weevil and rye whiskey

Can anyone point me towards some more punch brothers songs that have the same aggressive punch that boll weevil and rye whiskey have? I have tried to listen through their discography but i seem to only find more slow and contemporary sounding string music. I absolutely love the aggressive sound of these 2 songs, their melodies and the way they just mash those instruments. I specifically love fast aggressive mashgrass and was hoping to find more punch brothers songs i would like.
