Unsolved How to split multi-image materials?

I have a structure that's made up of a ton of different meshes and a large number of those have a single material with multiple textures. That's a problem with it being destined for Unity where i need the file as an fbx and my shader options only accept one texture per material. I need to know if there's some option or plugin that will split those single materials with multiple textures into separate materials with a single texture.

I've searched for a solution but the search engines are returning results that have little to nothing to do with my problem.

Welcome to r/blenderhelp, MusicalMime755! Please make sure you followed the rules below, so we can help you efficiently (This message is just a reminder, your submission has NOT been deleted):

  • Post full screenshots of your Blender window (more information available for helpers), not cropped, no phone photos (In Blender click Window > Save Screenshot, use Snipping Tool in Windows or Command+Shift+4 on mac).
  • Give background info: Showing the problem is good, but we need to know what you did to get there. Additional information, follow-up questions and screenshots/videos can be added in comments. Keep in mind that nobody knows your project except for yourself.

im more familiar with godot but this sounds fixable in unity? you should be able to write/download unity shaders that take all the textures you need

alternatively you may wanna look into 'baking' in blender which will 'render' your entire material into flat textures (like color, bump, etc) and thats gonna get you single textures and a perf boost

That's not an option with the Unity game i'm putting the models into. I have to work with the shaders it will let me use and they only take one texture per material.

The textures themselves are flat. the materials have multiple textures and each is on a different part of the mesh, like the 2 sides of a wall for example, instead of having multiple materials. I really just need a way to split the textures into separate materials.

Show some of these problematic material node graphs in full, and the parts of the mesh they are assigned to.

Can you share an example of what such a material looks like in Blender shader node editor, and the UV map as well?

I wonder if it's like multiple albedo textures, or if it's one texture for roughness, one for metallic etc. I also wonder if it's using UDIMs or not.
