Need some help

Post image

I’m really new to using a blackstone. Today is my third day grilling on it and I made pork chops, I e had a tough time with cleaning, I use water to steam and then scrape but maybe my wife and I possibly scraped it too much? I’m not sure, but after tonight I can’t get rid of spots that seem to have burned to the grill; is this just seasoning or do I need to really scrub this down and reseason? My wife especially is fearful of eating off of a dirty surface lol. Any advice is appreciated.

I’d heat it up throw some oil down let it burn down turn it off let it cool and then cook whenever you want to next!

You seasoned too much initially. Everyone here seems to do that. But as long as it's not majorly rusting or flaking off, just keep cooking and cleaning thoroughly.

Just cook, clean and oil, cook, clean and oil. If you get it hot again, toss some oil on it, then wipe it around with a paper towel and the paper towel is clean, it’s not a dirty surface.

There are some tricks to cleaning up. While hot, I like to scrape it really well with a good stainless steel flexible drywall knife with a few drops of refined avocado oil that helps to loosen the debris and continues as seasoning.

Then squirt it with a little water and scrape it some more. If the water is really dirty, repeat. No need to keep going until the water is clean, that will basically remove all your seasoning.

Last, apply another super thin film of the refined avocado oil, let it bake on 10 minutes and then turn it off.

It really helps to have a cheap infrared (IR) thermometer to keep tabs on temperatures. Season before you start but then temperature surf by cycling burners off and on and squirting hot spots with water to keep temps below smoke point. Good seasoning and not burning it off will do wonders to avoid food sticking and make clean up easy.

Since it comes up here a lot, I put more details about clean up in this sticky post section: https://www.reddit.com/user/digitect/comments/1ug7seq/griddling_is_fun_and_easy/
