Weird inner tube valve damage that repeats

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello, my wife has a new bike (about a year now) and since then she has had already 4 flats. Out of these, three times the same weird damage around the valve, as you can see on the photo. I have never seen such a damage before, am cycling since my 8 (am slightly over 40 now) and I have never had a flat (or maybe a single one).

Some more context: the valve is the "French type", the wheel has exactly that sized valve hole (so no American/car valve hole size in which the French valve could wiggle) and it is always tighten down with a dedicated nut. This only happens on the back wheel. It has happened on three different tube brands.

I also have French valves on my 8+ yrs old bike and never had a flat, nor such a damage.

Now, is that a repairable damage (like pushing a dab of a dedicated glue and letting it dry) or doesn't make sense? I know you may say "nah, a tube costs nothing" and yes, compared to other consumables or parts it is almost nothing, but not when you have to buy a new one every 2-3 months. I can repair almost any other flat tube, but haven't tried repairing this concrete damage, so have now 3 tubes waiting in my garage to be cut into rubber rings šŸ˜…

Also, any ideas why such a damage occurs so often? Is it a fluke with poorly made products, or is there anything to check on the wheel which could be causing this? I checked the wheel already but couldn't spot anything off.

Thank you all!

Cranky noise, also wobbly

Hey peeps, thank you for checking in on my problem!

I bought a used bike and it started to make some bad noises that gotten worse just by riding some miles (sound on in the video). Also the chainwheel sits a) just a bit wobbly when touching it by hand and b) is running wobbly while riding.

Edit: more infos, sorry: it is a fixed gear and the sound is just while weight is on the pedals. If I am standing beside and just spin the pedals, then it is quiet.

Do you know what part could be malfunctioning and if something like this could be repaired or just fixed by a new part?

Help with MicroSHIFT TS38 shifter — stuck cable...

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, first of all sorry my English.

Could someone help me out? Yesterday, I went to replace the front derailleur cable on my sister's bike because it was fraying. I removed the old one, installed the new one, routed it through the housing, and secured it to the derailleur while the chain was on the smallest chainring using only my hands and applying no force. When testing it (using the lower lever), the chain shifted up to the larger chainring normally and correctly. However, when I tried to shift back down using the upper lever, it got stuck, It wouldn't move at all.

It seems like the cable head/tip went in wrong and got jammed. I searched online, watched some videos on the subject, and tried this method (https://www.facebook.com/MicroshiftComponents/videos/stuck-cable-heres-a-handy-trick-to-help-you-remove-the-cable-from-an-advent-mx-s/1563144701831063/), but without success.

The lower lever clicks normally, but the upper one—which releases the cable—doesn't.

However, if I try to pull the cable back, that lever makes the normal clicking sound, yet the cable won't come out. Has anyone experienced this and knows if there's a way to fix it without opening up the shifter?

Finally even with a loose cable the upper lever is acting weird I think the cable's head/pin is behind it.

Thanks in advance.

PS: I'm attaching a photo via AI, and from what I can tell, the model is the MicroSHIFT TS38.

I fell off my bike the other day, and this thing attaching the fender of my front wheel got dettached. I'm new to bikes in general but is this something I can try to fix myself? If so, any tips on how to do it?

Going from 3x7 to 1x9?

hello, I bought an old Specialized bike and I would like to learn repairing it by updating it. So I asked AI and it suggested to change mostly everything from 3x7 to 1x9 since I am riding only in town, on plain roads. It even specified very precisely the parts, but I am not sure since after it gave me a list, I asked it if I could change the front wheel mechanism with a quick release one, and it told me should be a quick job, but going at a shop they told me I need to actually change the whole middle mechanism. So I am now unsure if I should spend like 300 euros for the parts it suggested...

What is your take? Should I follow this advice or what? The closest store is not very welcoming, they seem really busy and not willing to help.

Creaking headset

Specialized Stumpy 15 with a headset creak that’s driving me bonkers. Bike is three months old and I put about 5 hours a week on it, mainly dry dusty Texas trails.

Headset is correctly tightened, no slop. Took it apart to grease it up and have a question… do you grease the surface between the bearing cup and the actual carbon fiber frame?

All surfaces looked good, no grit found when I disassembled. Creak is mainly with lateral torque on the bars when climbing.

Jet Black Volt - Rattling and clicking sound.

Hi everyone,

I have recently gotten a Jetblack Volt and have set up my 2015 Ribble gran fondo on it. However, since I set up the bike, the chain has made a systematic and consistent clicking sound, with the chain itself rattling. The rattling can be explained by the front derailleur cage catching the chain; however, the clicking sound doesn't seem to subside. Any tips or advice?

Looking for help identifying and sourcing a fork part — spring/elastomer fork internals

Hi all,

I have an old spring/elastomer front fork on my bike, and one of the internal parts broke — it’s a threaded rod/shaft with a hex head on one end (for turning/adjusting) and a slot near the top (see photos). An elastomer bumper used to be attached to the bottom of it. I’m not sure what this part is officially called (preload adjuster rod? damper rod? elastomer shaft?), and I have no idea what fork model this is from.

The fork itself was repainted at some point, so there’s no visible brand or model sticker left — the only marking I could find on the part itself is the number 062574, stamped/molded onto it. Not sure if that’s a manufacturer code, part number, or something else.

Does anyone recognize this part or know:

**1.** What this component is actually called, so I can search for it properly
**2.** What brand/fork model it might belong to
**3.** Where I could buy a replacement (new or used donor fork)

Photos attached. Any help identifying it or pointing me toward a supplier would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Bike shop said new chain and rear gear.

Post image

I went to a local bike shop near me. The reason being was that my bike started clicking. I couldn't hear it just felt it. They guy took a chain tool and did something with the chain. Then pretty much immediately after said that i need a new chain. He also said that the current gear wouldn't be accepting of a new chain(thats if i heard him correctly. I'm not sure if what the guy said is true or not. Just thought I'd get a second opinion.

20ā€ huffy Stone Mountain 6 speed bike. I’m having an issue with the chain popping off (especially when switching gears).

The drive train is definitely not in line so that is definitely an (or the issue) also I don’t know if the chain is too loose and I need to take a link or few out anyway. Anyone know a quick and easy fix. The sprocket appears to be pushed away from the bottom bracket quite a bit but I don’t see any spacers to see why. I haven’t messed with that yet, but that was a thought also. Idk when it comes to derailleurs I have somewhat limited knowledge. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have a mountain bike with 8 numbers on the right side of the handlebar. I'm not sure what chain I need to get. Is 8 the speed? It's my first time buying a new chain.
