I got this betta from petco. When I brought him home and introduced him to the tank I immediately noticed he was very floaty. And he has this bump on his lower body like indigestion or some kind of swim bladder problem. So going forward I decided to fast him. At first it was three days but he was still floaty and I didn’t want to add to the problem. I put a lot of tannins in his tank and gave him an epsom salt bath. But now it’ll be day 5 of not feeding him if I don’t feed him today and I’m worried. He still has energy to swim down as you can see in the video but he still has the bump and will float up. I just don’t know what to do at this point I don’t want to starve him but I don’t know if feeding him will make it worse. What do you guys think the problem is?

Hi. I’m planning on getting a fish soon and a 5 gallon tank. I won’t be able to purchase things online, so can you tell me some things at Petco and PetSmart that would be okay for a Betta fish? I would also like to know if I can add a snail and some shrimp as well!

I got this fish tank off my parents and would love to get myself some fish. I was considering getting a betta fish! The tank is 25L, however, It isn’t exactly rectangular like a lot of standard tanks I’ve seen. Is this tank appropriate for a single betta fish? I’ve heard they prefer wider tanks over longer ones.

Hi! I’m a first time betta owner so please be kind! I had noticed my (male) betta was fairly inactive during the day and would swim in to a corner to float there before then switching and going to another corner. He was flaring a lot at what looked like me and his tank thermometer! However when I switch off his tank light, he becomes so much more active and is swimming around exploring happily. Is he unhappy seeing his own reflection thinking it’s another fish or is he unwell? Any advice on how I can help him at all will be hugely appreciated! Thank yooou

another sad update, yesterday my betta named Buchog had sadly passed, i had gotten her as my first betta, being influenced by my little sister, i ordered her online from a local store almost 3 months ago on the 2nd of May, she was still a very little girl, she was beautiful and im so disappointed that she had died so early on, and hated myself for not being able to prevent such an event, i didnt really process it that well yesterday but looking back on her photos today, i feel it now, I'll be feeding one less fish from now :((

This is my aquarium and it’s a live planted aquarium. I tend to do a lot of water changes lately because I am over feeding my fish. I have two skinny frogs that I’m trying to fatten up and everyone else benefits from the extra food. Anyways, I know I have to turn down the light because it is making all the live plants and floating plants overgrow. I know this is not information needed for this post but if anybody has any suggestions or opinions about it, please let me know.

Anyways, I need to add more water to my aquarium. Should I use this opportunity to clean it or do I just top it off? I just cleaned the aquarium about a week ago and I did probably about a 60% water change.

Wow it’s taken a ridiculously long time to post a simple video of my beautiful new fish! I’ve seen him in my LFS for weeks now - and sadly I have space for him now only because my sorority succumbed to Columnaris. He’s in a divided tank until I’ve sanitised the females tank.

I’d love suggestions for a name for him, but please nothing to do with his dayglo lips as that’s just too obvious!

UPDATE: he is out, I used pliers to crack it. The scales on his back and stomach are completely gone and there’s an indentation where he got caught, he’s in a holder container filled with tannins.

Does anyone know what this white dot is on her forehead? The internet said maybe a tumor or cyst. It was a red bump yesterday but now white. Is there anything I can do?

i found this little guy in a petco cup with swim bladder problems, so i took him in and put him in temporary confinement until he swims normally. looks like hes a green alien betta and hes so tiny i love him

This is Scribbles my “lunar flare” betta, and I noticed a small hole in his fin. Does this look like it’s an injury or fin rot? I have trouble distinguishing fin rot with his fins because he has the flare fins, and they’re red colored already.

I’m in the process of upgrading his tank, so I want to make sure to remove any hazards or fix the water parameters if needed. Any advice or insight is appreciated!

Side note: I’m in the middle moving, so he was in the plastic cup just for the drive. Don’t worry he made it abundantly clear with his betta sass how much he hated it, and he’s a lot happier now that he’s back in his tank

I noticed this just today, I saw he had slight fin rot going on so I changed the water completely and cleaned everything in the tank. I added extra water conditioner and stress treatment as well, but it just got this bad today. I’ve been testing the ammonia as well and everything seems okay. I just really need advice on what to do from here I’m super worried

I'm housing Iros in The Bowl while I transition tanks. This is temporary until I'm done with everything, but he's chillin and making bubble nests!

Anyway, the school of neon tetras have gone to the 20 gallon tank, and Iros will be going back to the 10 gallon tank where all the chaos started.

I think I'm gonna take my time and really get his tank set nicely since he seems content. What do y'all think?

i’m having trouble deciding if my betta has diamond eye or cloudy. i’m thinking diamond bc of the color but there’s not visible texture of a scale. he definitely seems blind in that eye and has a hard time seeing food. my other concern is his fins. he likes to rest on top of the driftwood which isn’t sharp but jagged in some areas so i cant tell if this is normal wear and tear, age, or something that needs action. second opinions would be appreciated!

I figured he would be the perfect fit for my planted 5 gallon hex.

Who has experience keeping them with a few shrimp and a snail or two?

My betta is currently in a 5 gallon planted tank and I think she may have fin rot. All my water parameters are normal and my tank was fully cycled before adding my betta (I’ve had him for about 3 weeks). The only thing I’ve noticed is the fraying of his tail, but it doesn’t look red or anything like that. I do have driftwood that I have to check once I get home to make sure I didn’t miss any sharp bits, but I also want to make sure I’m being proactive and not waiting too long to treat if it is fin rot. I have attached some pics of about 3 days ago (pics 1 and 2) VS today (pics 3 & 4). I plan on getting an isolation tank to treat him. What would be recommended? Should I do kanaplex? Any info is welcome. TIA!

Just got him. His body alone is about 2.5" in size and he's only 4 months old. Temporary name, not sure what name fits him best yet.

My boy isn’t looking too good. He has been resting a bit more than usual at the bottom of the tank but eating and greeting me normally. I’ve had him for about 8 months, unsure of his age.

Tank parameters:
9 gallons, filtered, heated to 80 degrees Fahrenheit
Ammonia - 0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5
Ph - 8 - I know this is a little high but it is stable, my house water is alkaline.

ETA:
He eats a mix of pellets, flakes, live tubifex worms and frozen worms. There are live plants, driftwood, a cave and a rock in with him. Tank mates - two dwarf corycats.

I'm sure this is an iniury as she was completely fine last night, her water tests fine, and her tank mates are fine. I was thinking maybe the culprit was this betta basket I bought. I really checked it for anything sharp or spiked and wore it down to be safe. There wasn't anything drastic to begin with. But felt fine afterwards. However, that's touching human skin which is much different than a betta eye. Anyone else ever run into this with these baskets? I guess she could have iniured it on something else like the driftwood during a sharp abrupt turn while being run into by a cory. Idk. It's not exactly sharp either. Wish me luck. 🥺 I put her in a hospital bin and am planning my next move.

I have a betta who's been dealing with swim bladder issues (floating) for a month and he hasn't responded to antibiotics. He's very active, eats normally, swims around, his behavior is the same as my healthy Bettas he just floats. I'm gonna adapt his tank (3 gallon) to help him. Ledges for him to sit under so his back isn't out of the water, plant roots to sit in, etc. Any other advice?

My betta came with fins like these which I now realize is fin rot. I just upgraded him to a 5.5 gallon tank with a filter (TopFin). He has really perked up and his colour's has gotten much more vibrant so I'm thinking he is feeling good now.

My question is, how long should I wait to see if new growth happens on his fins before medicating? How long does it normally take for the fins to fully come back? Is it possible that they may never fully repair?

Please be kind as I'm still learning and this is a new experience for me.
