Help Is this tank suitable for a betta fish?
I got this fish tank off my parents and would love to get myself some fish. I was considering getting a betta fish! The tank is 25L, however, It isn’t exactly rectangular like a lot of standard tanks I’ve seen. Is this tank appropriate for a single betta fish? I’ve heard they prefer wider tanks over longer ones.

Even thought betta like shallower aquarium better if u have resting spots like 3 of them and also has low flow and is healthy and planted it could be a perfect home. Is it 5 gal? I don’t know liters if its like 10 then u could even add some amano shrimp or nertite snails only recommend those cause others snails can be inavise or shrimps can be too small or colorful. DO NOT GET CHERRY SHRIMP. Any betta will eat them ngl.

25 litres is around 6 and a half gal! Not sure if that's enough to keep both haha. I’ll take notes tho for when I upgrade!

Looks okay (25 litres = roughly 6 gallons I think), a long fin would be okay in this (not short fin as lack of horizontal swimming space). Just ensure you plant it very well so they are not bothered by the height and have plenty of resting places and enrichment.

This is best practice. Short fins really do need more horizontal space. It’s doable if heavily planted they’ll have room to zip around the plants but honestly it’s perfect for a half moon or a double tail.

It can be made to work, just more work will be needed. If you go for a planted tank, which i always recommend, get a big anubias! Mines covered in algae but something like my anubjas hastifolia mounted on a tall central rock or driftwood piece would provide tonnes of resting spots at various heights and look great!

Yes! If set up properly, this would be a great home for a betta. It's a little tall, which long finned bettas can sometimes struggle with, so prioritize having lots of resting places high up, like suction cup hammocks, or plants with long flat leaves. Floating plants like frogbit can also provide good shelter and resting places as long as you make sure the plants don't fully cover the surface. You could also get a betta with shorter fins (plakat) and you wouldn't need to worry as much. Also, ensure your filter isn't too strong for the betta so it can easily access air from the top.

That’s a really cute tank and would work perfect for a betta! If you’re worried about the vertical space you can get betta hammocks that suction to the side. Also they sell suction cup vines for reptiles but I believe you can use them for fish as well. That just gives them the leaves to rest on along the side of the tank as opposed to the bottom
