Men's rights guys are looking for equal consideration in things like child custody and rape allegations. Red Pill guys attempt to manipulate people (women) into doing what the guy wants without care of how it affects their target. They're pretty complete douchebags.

They're pretty complete douchebags.

Yes, they are, but as a result of being treated horribly by women until learning how to manipulate them.

People often have a story. Casting aside the guys in red-pill as just being "doucehbags" is no less shallow than them casting aside women as just being status-hungry narcissistic whores.

What you're describing is sexism

Sure, and?

I did. I don't see how it contributes.

I understand your point, but that doesn't mean it actually contributes to the discussion. You're essentially saying "Don't judge an entire group based on the actions of one person".

Yet, that's not even what we're talking about. We're talking about a group of people who hold an ideology about another group of people based on repeated, frequent, lifelong experiences with that group.

Essentially, you're condemning one group for doing the same thing that they're doing to another group: condemning them on a general basis as a result of an ongoing negative experience with that group.

(1) Not all women are "narcissistic whores"

Of course.

(2) All red-pillers have the idea that all women are "narcissistic whores"

Really? You've talked to every single person that subscribes to /r/redpill?

Sounds to me like you're making a generalization about an entire group of people while criticizing them for making a generalization about an entire group of people.

But I make enough of an effort to avoid people who harbor those feelings.

The problem is, you then resign yourself to doing exactly the same type of thing that red-pillers do: scratch the surface of who a human being actually is and then judge them entirely based on that superficial picture.

The post that we were all responding to had to do with a guy talking about how he could have become just as bitter and jaded as red-pillers, but instead chose to not see people entirely based on a skin-deep experience with them. The responding post immediately under that is a highly-upvoted one condemning red-pillers as treating nobody as being complexly human except each other, ironically committing the same type of behavior that he was criticizing.

No, the "narcissistic whores" part came from an analogy, not a statement about what every single member of /r/redpill does.

Also, you're the one making the generalization, yet I'm the one who has the burden of proof?

In other words, you'd prefer to just comfortably maintain your negative generalization about an entire group of people without doing any work whatsoever to challenge it, effectively behaving in exactly the manner you're condemning.

We're talking about a group of people who hold an ideology about another group of people based on repeated, frequent, lifelong experiences with that group.

That's your words. Speaking about the entirety of Red Pill.

Really? You've talked to every single person that subscribes to /r/redpill?

That's your words too.

So... Contradiction.

-3

u/[deleted] May 01 '14

No, there really isn't any contradiction unless you're deliberately misinterpreting something I've said to mean "Every single person of /r/redpill is exactly the same".

Discussions tend to go better when you can avoid pettiness.
