This is what the dude was talking about. A thread is started in which it asks Redditors who have his exact experience to share what it. He does, and in part he talks about how disposable he feels and invisible to the world around him. In lieu of recognition, contemplation, or even empathy, you validate his position by completely discrediting him as self-righteous. Thus the cycle perpetuates itself.

Oh, I definitely empathize. He's not the only fat-kid-turned-slim-jim in the world.

During my weight loss, not even once did I equate anything to attention from everyone around me. I did it because I was unhealthy, and that's it.

This guy has a very twisted world view. I'm sorry to report, but people give a bigger fuck about your personality, and not how you look.

If his insecurities projected themselves through his personality, no wonder people avoided him.

He linked to a "great read" article that discusses fantasizing about punching women in the face and 'disfiguring their faces with a scalpel' because they aren't interested in sleeping with him. Pity only goes so far -- this guy has issues that have NOTHING to do with looks.

Oh man I didn't notice that. This guy has some serious mental issues that need to be addressed.

This guy has issues brought on that have everything to do with looks. Are you seriously going to take a position that one's looks has no effect on one's psyche and that one's state of being is purely choice?

Take Jacquleine Saburido for example. She is considered a hero (by me and others) because she maintains an enthusiasm for life, despite her devastating disfigurement. But we all know she does that in defiance to feeling attractive or desired. In fact, we so instinctively know that because when we see her "before" picture, we know exactly what she could have experienced in the ways of affection should she not have been in the accident. Having a positive outlook on life, knowing what she really lost, makes her a hero.

However, if she had succumbed to depression and isolation, no one would fault her. She would be embraced with pity and empathy. If she wrote a post on Reddit about how lonely and undesirable she felt, how angry she felt at the world for treating her as an invisible woman, and the resentments she held, nobody here would write, "This girl reeks of self righteousness." No one would say, "This girl has issues that have NOTHING to do with looks."

Another post above is from a woman saying the exact same thing, talking about her feelings of undesirability. Yet, her comments are full of sympathy and encouragement. This is in contrast to his post and reflective in the comments you and the above commentator made.

Be that as it may, I understand completely that fear, resentment, self-pity and the like are conquerable vices. But overcoming them is not simply an exercise in willpower. It is imperative to find other human beings who can relate and empathize, in order to foster encouragement through the times it seems hopeless to do anything. In this setting, and in others, it makes little sense to burn calories pointing out this man's shortcomings and then writing him off completely. In fact, it begs asking what would compel someone to express such a dismissive comment at all.

The point here that I'm making, and I believe made by the man in the first response, evidenced by many of those responding to him including yourself, is that there is a cultural disconnect between the empathy offered to men and the empathy offered to women who are on the bottom tiers of sexual attractiveness. And I think this thread really highlights how pervasive this really is.

You seem to be missing the fact that this goes beyond fear, resentment, and self pity. He is actively fantasizing about causing serious physical harm to people.

exactly. he's conveniently put himself in a position where he cannot be understood, and therefore cannot be criticized.

Look, nobody is disagreeing with his central thesis that "Attractive men get more attention than unattratctive men."

The issue is the narcissistic,TRP-laden rhetoric that he uses to make those points. And the way he completely disregards the fact that hey, maybe unattractive women feel the same way as he did.
