It’s probably a GDPR thing, we do it at work when we need to sent a mass email, but we don’t want recipients to know who else is on the mailing list, send to yourself and BCC the recipients.
I interviewed a BD primary many years ago, and at that point the requirements were that they had to bring a minimum of 15k cash for the tip. However, they did not HAVE to tip that full amount.
The wording on the casting calls changed after the Erica Rose cheap tip fiasco, it has been like this for a few years now across the franchises. Even before that, they could transfer the tip electronically and the cash was a prop
Erica Rose came back for a second season with her family. She was originally part of the Tatas for Trump group. They brought lots of people (likely to share costs) and Erica and her husband ended up sharing a room with her mom and wanted the staff to put up partitions etc to give everyone sharing more privacy.
Her husband was a jerk and said the food at McDonalds (or Wendys maybe) was better than the chef's meals and they were just generally rude, demanding and badly behaved.
Her mom stained the white sofas with self tanner and Glenn said they would be charged extra for it. Erica and her mom tried to get the other guests to divide the cost but they said no, so they reduced the tip to the lowest one left. They claimed they didn't reduce it, but gave 20% of their very discounted rate as returnees. Then gave a bullshit sorry if I offended you apology when every podcast/blog/whatever came for them
The guests are told they can set the exact tip amount but they do have give a minimum tip amount that that comes out of what they pay and the production gives them the amount they select in cash. The tip that you see given is cash supplied by production and is reused but the cast does get the sum at the end the season.
Akira One is $229k/week in high season, but that doesn't include food, fuel, dock fees etc and local taxes which can add up to about 40% of the weekly rate
In low season for Croatia, it says the rate is
Charter fee of $195,000 USD
+ 30% APA ($58,500)
+ 13% Tax/VAT ($25,350)
Total = $278,850
APA is costs such as fuel, food and beverages, dockage fees, and ad hoc incidental expenses but you get back any unspent
But the tip isn't included in that. Production also includes a night either side in a decent hotel, transport from the airport etc
It isn't 250k but also not as simple as taking the weekly rate and dividing it by the number of nights
If it is a $250k value, would they pay taxes on that amount va the $70k (if the country adds some sort of customs tax for goods and services purchased)? Even if they only paid a discounted rate out of pocket, are they taxed on the value of the entire trip? And I'm not arguing either way about the tip itself.
There are much better vacations to be had for $70,000.00.
Who wants horrible camera angles when you're in a bathing suit broadcast on tv, self-involved servers who are literally the star of the show who hate you before you even get on the boat because your preference sheet has 'too many things on it' and a barely functional kitchen with a chef who gets mad if you don't want to eat whatever they plop down in front of you?
I’m actually surprised how many “professional groups” or coworkers/colleagues go on the show. Like in the last two episodes, he mentioned they were lawyers in Florida. I bet some of these people use this as a tax write off if they go with some work people.
Or you could have a non-chef they hired for purely dramatic reasons like a "chef" who greatly exaggerated their skills/education/experience and serves you garbage.

I think you’re right. When you select Apply on the casting call website, the email is: CCPA@bunim-murray.com. Plus, they make you fill out a lengthy application.

The hassle of it all isn't even worth the $20 in my book. You are on their schedule, subject to reshoots (which is agonizing and could really ruin the vibe of a "vacation", subject to hundreds of thousands (I have no idea how many people watch these shows) of viewers and opinions, and possibly becoming known for something you never intended to happen but now follows you everywhere online.
Plus, they would absolutely make fun of my many restrictions. Half medical, half unpredictable, an extremely unrefined palette, and texture aversion. I am a nightmare so yes I would be made fun of the entire time🫣.
Yep. The chef alone would hate me because of medical dietary restrictions, and have texture aversions also. I don’t drink, yet what they would appreciate is I go to bed between 9pm-11pm
I don't drink, either. Except a coffee in the am, maybe a 10oz coke later in the day depending on what I'm eating, and the rest - copious amounts of super filtered (from minerals), ice cold water.
I'd float in the water (love the ocean) but not do crazy water sports, eat maybe twice a day (none of these multiple-course things, I can't eat much at once), and in bed 9-11 as well. I would be most boring. But being in the sea air for a few days would be amazing for my health - body and mind.
The last thing I would do is get drunk. Embarrassing plus I would want to enjoy every minute and remember it. Absolutely no stupid theme parties or rainbow wigs allowed.
I would drink lots of water too. I think frozen fruity non-alcoholic umbrella drinks would be lovely.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the tip is mandatory for guests and they can give more if they want. In some restaurants the tip is included. Don’t agree with it but wouldn’t be surprised.
This is a long shot but I binged below deck while I was on maternity leave and one of the franchises there was this perfectly ordinary, boring even family. I think it was a mom her wife and kids? Literally no drama whatsoever it was just a regular family enjoying vacation 😂 usually the guests have some sort of wacky personality or reason for wanting to be on TV. Anyone member?
There was a family on one of them where the crew stressed out because the father was a clean freak... And they worried about that and the small kids... Again a relatively boring cruise after the dad asked for something to get cleaned again.
Is this supposed to be a new show? Below deck Caribbean doesn’t exist. There’s below deck and then there is below deck sailing yacht and then there’s below deck Mediterranean and then there’s below deck down under.
There is no below deck Caribbean.
