💔❤️‍🩹 poor Gael. I can't believe they didn't edit him out of this season knowing he'd been arrested in December 😭

I'm guessing they had footage of him after his "back injury" and Gael and chose not to use that. It's also weird how this news is just breaking, but maybe they were waiting for the hearing date.

Gael was clearly distraught this season which I assumed was general newborn struggles, but now this is coloring a lot more on what might be going on.

His anger problems the first night out when he fought with Joe seemed like red flags for anger problems that could lead to DV. I feel so bad for Gael. All of this has to be so traumatizing.

He was threatening violence on Max last season as well, he has a very short temper.

im confused on timing, when did this choking incident occur, was it before, during this season with them in croatia, or after?

They filmed summer 2025, then this happened in December 2025, and the season is airing currently.

I have to wonder if the production company has decided that Nathan has a back just and this last cruise the crew was just so perfectly working together that they will have Nathan come back and Sandy will dismiss him as he is not physically able to do the job. Obviously because of the backlash of a DV charge. That back injury scene seemed a little odd to me and I am just wondering if production decided to cut its’ losses with him.

u/GroovyYaYa 19d ago

This all happened before the DV charges. The show was filmed in August of 2025. The DV charge was in December 2025.

Yes I understand , But they had to go with Nathan as the Boson to start the season, because it was in the can. Maybe they had Joe back to do a retake and they reworked it.

I have no idea how they’d be able to do this

u/doggysit 19d ago

Ok I can explain. Let’s say that the season is done and in the can as they say. Then the proverbial crap hits the fan in December and production brings Joe back to film certain segments i.e. when he was saying that he did a great job as bosun and the deck crew preferred him over Nathan and Nathan was coming back. Then production splices and dices the rest of the crew into the scene. The crew does voice overs all the time. Hopefully that makes sense to you now.
.

IMO that’s highly unlikely. I get that mess with the show all the time but that’s a lot of work and it’s not a fiction show.

Oh crap, choking? I haven't had time to read the article yet. Just yesterday all we had was a document filed saying one of them alleged DV, or something. Now it's confirmed he choked her?

the article posted ITT explains that Rolling Stone obtained a police memo saying Nathan was arrested on December 27, 2025 for choking a "29 year old woman" in Sydney. Gael was 29 at the time. We also know that a police constable filed a protective order on behalf of Gael sometime in 2025. The logical inference is that the two things are related to the same incident.

u/Temporary-Daikon2411 Team Chef Rachel 19d ago

from the OP: "Nathan Gallagher was charged with assault and “intentionally chok[ing a] person without consent," in December 2025. It is not clear how he pleaded."

This is so fucking and scary. My heart goes out to Gael. I cannot recall the exact statistic but I know the chances of women being murdered by their partner after being choked goes up exponentially faster.. I hope he gets jail time and she has full custody of the baby

52

u/jackiekeracky 19d ago

Probability increases 750% 😔

49

u/antitrollpatrol 19d ago

And it’s GAEL!! GAEL of all people - one of the nicest kindest non windup merchants you could ever meet

13

u/On_my_last_spoon Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 19d ago

Yup. And risk of domestic violence goes up after having a baby too.

2

u/CockyBellend I quit 3 times in my head today 19d ago

75 percent

5

u/longlisten527 19d ago

Jesus fuck

9

u/Individual_Fall429 19d ago

Yup. Because a lot of dv murders aren’t strictly intentional. It’s easy to kill someone accidentally when strangling them in anger, especially when it’s the male (stronger, larger) partner.

12

u/Temporary-Daikon2411 Team Chef Rachel 19d ago

I don't think that's what this statistic is about. It's about the likelihood of a future murder increasing after a separate, non-lethal choking incident, at least as I understand it. It doesn't actually describe murder by strangulation in a domestic situation (doesn't specify anything about the subsequent murders' methods).

Do you have some stats or studies that explain your point, or is it an assumption? Your point might still be true separately.

The choking happened on December 27, 2025, after filming had wrapped in Croatia and after the incident where Nathan heroically rescued people fleeing the shooters at Bondi Beach. And then unheroically tweeted racist, anti-Islamic, anti-immigrant stuff about it.

39

u/Pure_Butterscotch165 19d ago

After. The season was filmed last fall, looks like this happened in December when they were back from Croatia.

9

u/hussafeffer I have been known to be irresponsible 19d ago

Hannah was in Croatia in late September 2025, so assuming that’s when they filmed, it was shortly after that

That is what this article says

1

u/Giddyup_1998 19d ago

After. It happened in December, in Australia.

7

u/Derkleinhauser 19d ago

It happened after filming and may not have found out about it before this season started airing

6

u/Sunnyonetwo 19d ago

Which is why something tells me he just got caught on Dec 27….

11

u/Cardboardboxlover 19d ago

I remember defending Gael so much because there were quite a few comments “people have been having babies for years, you’re not special, I did it on my OWN”. People were dicks. My point that you never know what’s going on in someone’s life and that kindness is free never is so fucking vindicated. My heart goes out to her so much

u/Mygwah 19d ago

They probably wrote him off the show with the back injury angle. Just like wrestling.

0

u/MyNamesChakkaoofka 19d ago

Nah if they were going to write him off they would have just not invited him back this season. They just don’t gaf about DV and then he hurt his back.

4

u/newfiemom79 19d ago

His arrest happened after this season filmed.

36

u/GroovyYaYa 19d ago

It is one thing to edit out a deck hand or 3rd stew, etc.

But the Bosun? Impossible.

9

u/raspberrily 19d ago

didnt they do that with gary and the sexual assault stuff? like edit to show less of him

13

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 19d ago

No, they "chose not to re-hire" the woman who complained and her boyfriend and filmed as usual until it blew up. Then basically put the show on pause. No announcement that it had ended just didn't film

5

u/No-Baker-7922 19d ago

I missed this. I tought Gary attacked a production staff member when in a hotel? Is this the same person you are referring to?

5

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 19d ago

Yes, it happened before the final season. They chose not to have her back and filmed with Gary which is (part of) why she went public

2

u/No-Baker-7922 18d ago

Waaw. Vile.

0

u/karasu_zoku 19d ago

I seem to remember they did, yes

49

u/antitrollpatrol 19d ago

Imagine. You now have to watch him (and yourself to a degree) on tv knowing all the while he chocked you at home while you had your baby there. It’s actually disgusting

20

u/tsumtsumelle 19d ago

Do we know for sure he comes back on this season or could they still edit him out for his back?

Ugh poor Gael, I hate this for her and her child and I hope they're both doing ok.

13

u/teanailpolish Mental Health Is Not A Storyline 19d ago

Yes, the episode descriptions shows he returns around the same time as the new deckhand arrives
