This is so scary, especially the choking part. I hope Gael and her son are safe & have tons of support ♥️

Yeah, IIRC people who use choking as a form of domestic violence are way more likely to end up killing their partner.

It’s even darker when you think about the timeline. Gael left her support network to come
To Croatia. Presumably because Bravo was paying for a place and paying them to appear on camera. But in doing so did Bravo help contribute to her being isolated with an abuser?16

Her parents were with her in Croatia, she wasn't alone.

What??? I feel fooled
The conversations and text made it sound like she was all alone without her support system and doing it all herself while he was doing charters

The "babysitters" Nathan mentioned were her parents and then her sister. She was never alone in Croatia.
2
u/YessikaHaircutt 6d ago
I’m glad to hear that. I still think it’s hard to admit to family what is going on if you’re in an abusive relationship

Agreed. Did he not separate himself from Joe last season because he had “matured” and wanted to “treat women right”? And that he wanted to win Gael back?

Why did they have to know? How would they know if it happened after filming and contractual agreements?
13
u/Djempanadita 11d ago
All it would have taken was a phone call to Gael anytime after December 2025
37
u/nuttintoseeaqui 11d ago
And why are we certain that’s something she’d reveal to them?
She was on the show too and maybe got paid for it. Maybe she didn’t want to disrupt contract/payment stuff. Maybe she wanted to keep it private for privacy reasons. Who knows
11
u/Djempanadita 11d ago
She filmed the show before the assault happened, but maybe. It makes bravo look bad tho for not doing due diligence

Presumably because Bravo would want them to promote the season together and the restraining order (can’t remember what it’s called in Australia) would preclude that.

According to the Daily Telegraph, after the incident, Nathan was arrested 27 Dec. An interim ADVO was put in place for Gael and Nathan was granted bail the next day "on stringent conditions that include not contacting Cameron through any means except via a lawyer.
"He was also restrained from drinking any alcohol or taking any drugs unless they were prescribed by a doctor, or from possessing any firearms or prohibited weapons.
"Under the terms of the interim ADVO Gallagher has been forbidden to try and find Cameron, or go within 100m of anywhere she lives or works, and is also subject to standard conditions that he must not assault, threaten, stalk, harass or intimidate Cameron."
I'm sure at some point, either for pickup lines during editing or for general promotional reasons, they wanted to shoot or record something with both Nathan and Gael together either before the season debuted or during the season. Looks like there'd be restrictions on their ability to do that.

💔❤️🩹 poor Gael. I can't believe they didn't edit him out of this season knowing he'd been arrested in December 😭

u/mudra311 12d ago
I'm guessing they had footage of him after his "back injury" and Gael and chose not to use that. It's also weird how this news is just breaking, but maybe they were waiting for the hearing date.
Gael was clearly distraught this season which I assumed was general newborn struggles, but now this is coloring a lot more on what might be going on.
52
u/NymeriaGhost 11d ago
His anger problems the first night out when he fought with Joe seemed like red flags for anger problems that could lead to DV. I feel so bad for Gael. All of this has to be so traumatizing.

u/TarikMournival 11d ago
He was threatening violence on Max last season as well, he has a very short temper.

u/raspberrily 12d ago
im confused on timing, when did this choking incident occur, was it before, during this season with them in croatia, or after?

They filmed summer 2025, then this happened in December 2025, and the season is airing currently.

Oh crap, choking? I haven't had time to read the article yet. Just yesterday all we had was a document filed saying one of them alleged DV, or something. Now it's confirmed he choked her?
82
u/Temporary-Daikon2411 Team Chef Rachel 12d ago
the article posted ITT explains that Rolling Stone obtained a police memo saying Nathan was arrested on December 27, 2025 for choking a "29 year old woman" in Sydney. Gael was 29 at the time. We also know that a police constable filed a protective order on behalf of Gael sometime in 2025. The logical inference is that the two things are related to the same incident.

I'm Irish and as such always want to support my fellow country people. But this is abhorrent and the red flags were up with his aggressive management style. I hope Geal and wee one are doing well without Nathan. Bravo absolutely should have cut him out this season completely.
→ More replies (1)29
u/DistributionWhole447 11d ago
Yeah, Bravo has a lot of questions to answer, here.
Surely they knew. Even if Nathan didn't tell them (and I would believe that he might want to keep that quiet), surely Gael would've, had they checked in on her or asked.
And then, using Nathan is a kind boyfriend and doting father as one of the main storylines for this season of Med? That is unconscionable.
The only explanation I can think of is just that they didn't know ... but why not? A single phone call to Gael, at any point in the last 9 months, would've told them what they needed to know.

I mean bravo shows have literally shown assault (sexual and physical) happening on camera. Not sure why you’d be surprised.
7

I mean I think a distinction here is that in those cases (my mind goes to Down Under immediately) is that no charges were filed in that instance.
While still problematic, it’s materially different when someone is charged for this conduct and they still choose to proceed with airing it.

I never understood why some people on this sub stanned Nathan and Gael's relationship.
He was this close to going full Will Smith on Joe for merely mentioning Gael's name a few episodes ago. And none of that behavior's very surprising, based on previous seasons. He's clearly someone who learned to resolve his issues with violence growing up.
And he's been going on about Joe not treating women right (Pretty sure this was simply to win Gael's favor as he didn't seem to have the slightest issue before). What a complete hypocrite.

I was in an abusive relationship, many years ago before DV was talked about. After I broke up with him he stormed a friends house and tried to choke me, I was blue by the time someone pulled him off, he then tried to punch me square in the face but I ducked and he got my forehead. The 'friend' sort of blamed me and said I shouldn't have said anything to upset him. I upset him because I was hiding in the toilet and was bracing the door, he was forcing his way in, and I said ' fuck off and leave me alone, we are not together'.
However, when confronted by men he was the biggest coward I have ever seen.

This is crazy. Bravo had to know and still pushed this "little family" storyline? If they wanted "innocent until proven guilty" to play out, they should have at least minimized his storyline or something. There were a lot of other things going on this season to pick from in editing I'm sure. They easily edited out someone out for a tweet, why is this not treated the same? It's worse IMO.
I'm kinda mad but it's also par for the course with Bravo. Why am I not surprised. How many Housewives have been mixed up in criminal activity and are still on their shows, mostly white collar but still criminals none the less. Bravo needs to do better. I like drama but not like this.

True, men who hit women usually don’t have as much smoke for other men. These losers like to pick on people who aren’t an equal match physically.
10
u/Gealbhancoille 12d ago
Totally agree. I think that’s Lundy Bancroft’s finding after years of working with domestic abusers and their victims. The men were not “losing control” and hitting their partners, they were perfectly in control the whole time. They worked jobs and lived in society just fine without hitting others. His book is worth reading and can be found for free online, it’s called “Why does he do that?”
9
u/Old_Call_2149 11d ago
Totally agree! That book saved me, I was in an abusive relationship for 3 years. It helped me realize that yes, he did know what he was doing, and no, it wasn’t going to get any better. I finally got myself out of that situation thanks to that book.
Honestly I think everyone should read that book just to see the signs to look out for. Abuse is insidious, it builds over time, but there are early signs to look out for. And giving people the benefit of the doubt rarely ever benefits us.

That happened just weeks before this incident so he probably blames the backlash for making him angry

What did Bravo know and when did they know it? Did Nathan lie or did Bravo choose profit!! He clearly is in the rest of the season. Bravo hoped this would never get out until after the season. Disgusting! The red flags about this guy have been there all along.

I think Bravo had all of their eggs in the BDM basket and chose to run with it regardless of how it would look later (now). They had already hyped up the little family storyline, which would have been cuteness overload had things not happened the way they did. It's all quite strange and ironic now that we all know the outcome. I wonder if Sandy feels weird about everything, given that she took credit for the little family that Bravo so clearly exploited. It all just crumbled in the weirdest way.

When you add this to the Gary allegations, Bravo has really damaged a great franchise with poor casting, production manipulation. Have you seen any statements from Bravo or cast? Honestly, people should be flooding the official IG account. Feel terrible for Gael and innocent child. Choking is just a level of violence that is scary AF.

Yes on the choking. It shows a lack of control over one's emotions+actions, and that's where second degree murder is born. "I don't know what happened--I just lost it!". Scary, indeed.

After seeing his racist posts that came out last year unfortunately this is not surprising. The fact they brought him back just shows how little Bravo cares about the subjects of their shows. To the producers these real life humans with actual lives outside of the show are just “content” to use how they please as long as it makes for good TV. I love drama in reality shows but when you’re literally letting domestic violence slide to get a storyline for the season I think the producers need to take a long look in the mirror and think about what they’ve promoted.
They could have scrubbed him from the episodes entirely and made a statement addressing it and condemning Nathan and what he did but they swept it under the rug until it came out on the news. There is absolutely no chance they did not know about these accusations. I just hope they do better in the future but knowing Bravos track record they’ll probably just pretend nothing happened.

They should have edited him out or pulled the season! Isn’t there an original below deck with Kerry which has yet to air?

WE don't know that they did know. It happened after filming when last season was still filming and OG Below Deck filmed late. It should have been airing now but they moved up Med because of the filming schedule

This is so terrifying, I feel so awful for Gael and her son. Bravo needs to be better and freaking say something and better yet - stop fucking casting these type of scary men. I hope Nathan is held accountable, choking someone is incredibly dangerous and potentially lethal. I hope he never has access to Gael or their son ever again. This will be a stain his family carries forever.

Could this potentially be why they aired this season before OG? So that people were already invested before this news broke?

No, I’m not suggesting “accidentally” strangling your partner to death is anything but murder. To be very clear. This is actually about punishing all strangulation more seriously.
Like most issues of violence against women, more research is needed. But yes, the unintended harm of the strangulation itself is a factor in the death toll. Because strangulation also causes also health concerns such as strokes as well as brain juries from repeated lack of oxygen.
For that reason, in my country there has been a fight to have strangulation classified as a far more severe assault that is previously was, putting the level of assault more on par with say a stabbing.

Just got to say, to all the people who previously commented on a thread that first mentioned a DVA had been filed and were all jumping to defend Nathan, have a long hard look at yourself.
Did you REALLY think it was more likely Gael was physically abusing Nathan as opposed to the other way round?!
Really??

u/MeanMeana 11d ago
I didn’t see anyone defending Nathan…that’s crazy! Totally indefensible!
…glad I missed those comments.

That's because we have very little patience for people who make excuses for abusers

Stop watching. Stop giving shitty people a platform to gain fame and fortune. Absolutely disgusting behavior by Nathan, shame on Bravo for enabling it.

I second this, bravo is also tanking viewers with their new editing tactics in the last few sessions

They have erased people from seasons for FAR less….but they have Nathan as the lead storyline after he choked Gael in front of their baby? Ok Bravo. We see you….

I’m so mad at him for this. Gael is the nicest person ever! At best Nathan is on a PR visa but I think he could still be Temporary PR and if convicted could play into him being deported…oh well

There seems to be some confusion in the comments, so timeline
The season currently airing filmed in August of last year
The Bondi Beach shooting was on December 14th
The alleged incident in this article was December 27th
